Root Boost is updating the prevail to 2.3 gingerbread next week

very interesting :) well looks like i need to start working huh :P
great so i have to download ee14 tar cuz the ed13 tar wont do the ota to ee14 just so i can get a system dump of this.. anyone try rooting it yet?

ok nevermind the updates wont go for me at all on either firmwares.. so i guess im going to need someone else to test check... anyone else having this issue???

How do I install it? Through CWM or root explorer
 
i can't ota an update. this thing won't install with cwm or stock recovery. errors out either way. tried installing as named and renamed to update.zip.

Yup same issue.
Is there anyway to get it to force install the zip?
I see a couple people already asked pretty much the same question.
 
just got at message from samsung support that "the update will be rolling out gradually to prevail owners over the next few days"
 
I'm specifically getting an error when it tries to apply_patch_check("BML:boot:...
this looks like it's doing a check on the boot.img because later, it applies a boot.img.p to BML:boot

One could comment out the boot.img patch, but that means no updated kernel. the system would probably not work
 
I screwed with the updater-script and renamed the zip to update.zip then used apply update from sdcard in CWM. got it to do some shit then it booted to FOTA Updating, went through that but after it rebooted it only boots to recovery lol

tried apply update in the stock recovery too but it said some shit about the signature being screwed up since i edited the script
 
Got the udpate to work. I odin'd back to ee14 stock and used the regular recovery. Changed the filename to update.zip as bloodawn stated and put it in the sdcard directory.. Update flashed and then went to FOTA update..took a minute for the update to finish but after it installed phone was running gingerbread. as for the shabby root, when you first run it your phone will fc shake and reset..It will then go back to the samsung screen and keep fc shaking. since it was stuck on the samsung screen I ran the root one more time just to make sure it would take. Turned my phone off and turned it back on after, and it booted up with root access. I then flashed CWM 5 recovery and everything is going well. The only problem I have is when using Link2sd I cant mount the phone using any of the different partition types. Any suggestions for that?
 
looks like someone with need to take the update and then make some odin images of it
 
I ran odin to go to ED13 stock, then let it OTA update to EE14 and now it's doing the OTA update to EJ06 on it's own
 
yea with so many having the same issue i used the odin tars, the kernel is what is failing the md5 check

as for why things may or may not work wait til we can figure it all out :) for all we know thjey may have changed a lot more than we imagined in this ota :)

That is probably the safest thing to do. But well.. I am off today and have nothing better to do. And if I screw it up, it will just give me an excuse to go buy the ZTE Warp :p
 
my update is not downloading

I odined to ed13 factory

took the ee14 update


renamed that zip to update.zip, placed on sdcard, and apply update in the stock recovery

i think this is how you should do it

odin to stock ed13, take update to ee14, take update to GB

make sure everyhting is ok


install CWM5 and backup the partitions in CWM

dd if=/dev/block/bml1 of=/sdcard/mibib
dd if=/dev/block/bml2 of=/sdcard/qcsbl
dd if=/dev/block/bml3 of=/sdcard/oemsbl
dd if=/dev/block/bml4 of=/sdcard/amss
dd if=/dev/block/bml8 of=/sdcard/arm11boot
dd if=/dev/block/bml9 of=/sdcard/boot.img
dd if=/dev/block/stl12 of=/sdcard/system.rfs
dd if=/dev/block/stl13 of=/sdcard/data.rfs



go threw the process again, but dont install CWM

root the phone with Shabby's new root script and then get a copy of the recovery partition


dd if=/dev/block/bml10 of=/sdcard/recovery.img


that should give a true untouched image
 
blarg stupid boost it wont let me download the ee14 ota over wifi (i dont have boost service) and when i rename this one i get the boot.img fail which is interesting...only thing i can think of is that the ed13 tars dont have teh true stock kernels in em, or odin isnt pushing those as well as we thought...

regardless glad teh new root is working means we can do things much quicker :P now someone get me those images so i can do things ;)

probably not letting you go from ed13 to GB

you probably need to get the ee14 on there with update

do you have the zip?
 
I took Shabb's root script, and deleted everything after "echo deleting all yo shit"
I then adb shelled into the phone once it was stuck in the land of FCs
I mounted the sdcard manually, then ran my Odin creator script.

Everything should be untouched, except for data.rfs which I have to do a factory reset to make the phone boot anyways
