Root [Boost Mobile] [DEV] Remove Throttle

Here is a flashable zip for ROMs other than mine to remove the throttle services. I don't think they are throttling us yet but better safe than sorry. I noticed none of the others have this done. This is for B08c based ROMs but might work on others as well, YMMV. You should also remove the /data/system/throttle folder with your favorite root file manager.

Developers, feel free to add this to your ROM if you want.

Throttling has begun, according to the boost rep i just got off the phone with, Only if you go above 2.5 gigs.

I heard it was only for 4g on boost but who knows haha

Sure hope so, I asked 3g or 4g but you know how the tech support are...lol

Yeah haha we will probably be throttled but hey at least we pay less then contract carries screw paying an additional 80 bucks for 10 gigs of un throttle data

I'm currently being throttled since my cycle starts on the 10th. I think the throttling is both for 4g and 3g. If you go to the HTC evo design phone on boost mobile's website, it says that throttling will occur once you reach 2.5gb. Also, this files does nothing to stop throttling.

Yes as in my post above its both 3g and 4g but its only monthly, if you go over 2.5gb in a month, next month you have 2.5 gb again..

Actually ive heard the throttle is just 4g as stated by a boost rep

There is a throttle service on the phone that outputs to 2 files in /data/system/throttle. All this does is remove the service. How or what they do other than this is beyond me and nothing we can stop.

I agree with you as you are correct about this statement, No matter how much we "Hack" and try to disable throttling it wont work. Note that Boost is the Carrier and has the authority to Throttle your phone as they are the main network of your device. Theres nothing you can do to stop them, its like someone saying "Even though i didnt pay my bill Boost can't disconnect my phone this month because i hacked it" which obviously they can still do.

Due to some recent developments I'd avoid this one for now. Someone has gotten a TOS violation.

If you do use it don't blame me if they catch you.

My sprint plan is unlimited unthrottled 1500 anytime min between the two lines...unlimited any mobile to mobile + n/w..our bill w. Tax is like 130....to, me it's totally worth the extra 15 bux to be able to roam...not be throttled..and better support.

Boost has to pay sprint more for data now that sprint is about to release their own prepaid network I dont think theres a tru way to stop the throttling from happening sorry guys

Agreed, nothing can stop ALL throttling, since Boost/Sprint can always do it directly through their servers.

Just a little FYI, Boost IS Sprint. So is Virgin Mobile. They own both companies. The reason why there are two is because Boost started out as their prepaid iDEN branch and Virgin Mobile their prepaid CDMA branch.

Ok. ....I finally got an account so I can post on here.. ...through trial and error I have found a solution to the throttling ......my connection was slowed very drastically after I received my data limit warning.. ...I backed up everything in my phone using titanium backup.. ..then wiped my whole phone.. ...my data is working awesome again. .....boost wasn't accurate in my usage.. ..I used about 11 gigs before throttling took effect.. .not sure of I will have to repeat this once I max out again.. ..but for now its fixed and I am happy that I can use my WiFi hotspot and actually have use.. .....I have posted this because I have found much useful advice on here and figured I would return some usefulness.....resetting the phone sucks but snail speed sucks worse. ..let me know if this works for you guys.. ...I have boost n9100....the only change I noticed is that the data chart in settings was reset back to 0

If that's true... could it possibly be that Boost left the throttling work to be done by our phones?
