Root [Boost Mobile] I smell a RAT!

Totally just woke up and seen this, was this in anyway due to using tethering? Like the hidden tether settings? I download a lot, I mean a lot. Gigs a month and upload in the near gig a month and never gotten that message. This whole tether thing is new and I was wondering if its related

That is a very strong possibility...but I'm fairly certain the build.prop was just a coincidence

I'm not sure on the tethering. The app I was using I learned was only accessing the factory hidden option which a lot of the USB tether apps do. So I don't see why cutting out the app and accessing the option directly would make the difference.

Or maybe mobile hotspot since that's a pay feature of their 4g plans?

Not saying it was, but the option to access it was recently found, I remember seeing this in the code alot for caf, cm7 and cm9. I really think its harmless. If I find a reference when I'm actually awake, I'll post it, but honestly its probably not needed. This thread is really the only thing that comes up on being scared of the cne module. And the reference to rats in the user policy is just funny.
Keep in mind those people at Google are pretty funny. Like the code names for kernel versions. One I seen was Flesh Eating Bats, and the one I'm working on now is Sneaky Weasel. So this might just be an over extenuation of something simple.

There is a difference between USB tethers and the built in one, normal apps use adb to work with the computer. The built in one uses android tunneling to access and act as a modem. Its pretty cool, works on windows and Linux for me with no issues. Except I can't USB transfer when using it

Yes, but nothing to do with the built-in tether option you found; I use Barnacle.

Maybe they sent me the text based on the fact that I used a rather large amount of data and it was pure coincidence, albeit a very well timed one.

Well they can track data from their side, i always use large amounts of data so that's probably why I don't get a message from them, as far as proving it is or isn't from a tether is next to impossible

Someone care to explain this to me? How it removes the throttle and all. :D

That's my file(thread here). It removes a "throttle" service from the system that kept some sort of log. No one has figured out why it's on our phones or what the log was storing. I removed the service not because I care about data usage but because I was trying to cut out unneeded services and files at the time when I was building my ROM.

Sorry, I should've posted a link to your thread instead of just the file link...

So have we come to a conclusion yet on the "rat"? LOL Should I remove the lines in the build.prop on not? You all have me paranoid now like I wasn't overly paranoid already! haha

I've got that and apkmultitool...unless theres a better way. I just replaced classes.dex in a random apk and decompiled it...

It can decompile jars too man. It would be exactly the same. "apktool d thingtodecompile.jar"

Wow seeing is believing in this case. Totally surprised when i did this my 3g was running tip top. It was awesome! It's so funny that they try to make these phones run so slow so we think we need an upgrade to another phone or to go with a contract to get better service. It's crazy.
