hey all long time no post.lol. so with all the rumors of kitkats compatibility for older lower end devices do you think that you skilled little devs over here can bring it to all the loyal and deserving warpinians? I have a warp I keep in case my current phone poops out, and would love to see another update from you guys and gals. still running warp oem, and alien kernel.lol.I pop in one in a while to see how you guys are doing but just recently got my password back. and I don't want to cause a stir, just speculating.. let me know what you think.

Android KitKat: Wider hardware support
One of Android's biggest issues is fragmentation thanks to the sheer number of devices available. As different versions have been released, many Android owners have been forced to sit back and watch their newly-bought phones become obsolete almost overnight - many handsets are stuck on Android 2.3 because of the stern requirements made by subsequent updates.

Google will apparently try to make amends with Android 4.4, which is rumoured to have lower specification demands and can therefore be installed on older phones and tablets. It's even been said that devices that missed out on 4.0 and beyond will be able to download 4.4 – although we'll believe that when we see it (and of course it will be down to the manufacturers and carriers to actually release the updates). But it's a positive move by Google all the same.

Thats according to this:

Of course, boost gets the final say on whether or not we get the update if it happens, but if they don't... who cares? We'll just have to get it ourselves, won't we? :D

Of course Google wants older devices to be upgraded as new versions come out. :) However, its way easier said than done.

They aren't even the major players in the process, the manufacturers are. Its already been seen time and time again that what counts for manufacturers is device sales. They'd rather have you buy a newer device .

But that's only issue #1. Even If the manufacturer pushes an update out, the carriers add another huge delay and before you know it its been months.

I think its much more likely Google tackles fragmentation by unhitching everything they can from being tied down by android version and instead have the core things installable and upgradeable from the play store.

Were already seeing that with things like Google keyboard, calendar, ect in the play store, and I suspect we will see a stock android launcher replacement as well.

What I'm trying to get at (and not doing very well ;))... is they're going to solve fragmentation by making the android version less relevant, not by upgrading everyone to the current version. I don't think they could possibly accomplish the 2nd one. The 1st, absolutely
