Root [Boost Mobile] [ROM] n00b (B10 based) VIII.II FULL Install 1/23/2013

So I have been using noob 3 for a while (i think it was 3) and as far as I remember it was ok. now it is great except for 1 thing usb storage. it never asks to activate and I don’t know how to make it work. grr not enough time to investigate.

here is a logcat from right before, waiting 5 sec then removing

[Logtalk] --------- beginning of /dev/log/main I/AmazonAppstore.DynamicResources.Resource - Pastebin.com

from what i’m guessing

i see dun_service on line 111 it thinks usb is only being unplugged???

I dunno and i don't know what a logcat for a successful usb storage event should be

thanks for an awesome rom

travis

yes they are , also I can hear the difference from Shinjitsu Rom to this one. please help

I can talk to Downthemachine about this, I changed to his 1.8 kernel for this build, the sound levels are in the kernel.

the alien kernel test build three has increased call volume but he bundles a lot of other things like build.prop and other scripts so I am not recommending that yet since I don't know if his changes conflict with my ROM or cause other issues...

EDIT: you could also do a factory data reset and go back to n00b VI (link is still in the first post) that one has a louder kernel you will just loose the overclock and have to reload your data.

Try this: with the phone plugged into the computer: open dialer and enter *983*87274# choose AT.

if that doesn't work, try changing the cord to a different usb port, also try another computer to confirm.

You should get a USB connected icon and notification pull down ongoing notification

Yeah they were both edited and named the same and I accidentally wrote over the first. No biggie

I just updated the dev thread zip so it's the one I have been using for the past few days, it's been working like a charm, it's smaller like dtm suggested (and like I had originally). I think we are close, there will be more tweaks for it later, I left some lines commented out for later.

If you are still having issues I am sorry to say it but you probably need to do a factory data reset or re-flash and reinstall your apps, to me it sounds like too many tweaks on top of each other and something has stuck in data/data that's causing issues.

n00b VII + Alien3.0SuperKernelNOBFS
(I did not flash n00bVIIzRamDEVUpdate)

SetCPU:
Main: 122-1401, smartassV2, sio, Set on Boot
Profiles:
Battery > 45C <= 20%, 122-122, powersave, pri 100
Battery > 40C <= 30%, 122-245, conservative, pri 95
Battery < 50%, 122-368, conservative, pri 50
Battery < 75%, 122-368, smartassV2, pri 49
In Call, 368-768, interactiveX, pri 45
Charging Any, 122-1516, interactiveX, pri 30

Good battery AND very fast with that settings. I didn't have any lags but flashed that kernel only a few hours ago. I did not find any conflict or issue, so far is the best rom+kernel ever seen.

how are sound level with that kernel?

also i find this in dmesg

[ 177.293800] hub 3-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 3
[ 177.509603] hub 3-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 3

[ 179.379728] hub 3-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 3

ps i have a samsung replenish and it works perfect on this computer/port/cable

so i found

and it said the error -71 was an over current protection, meaning the phone is trying to pull to much amperage from the port

now this is in the dmesg

[ 353.283162] hub 3-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 3
[ 392.531295] hub 3-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 2
[ 426.493535] hub 3-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 1

so i used
watch "dmesg | tail -20"
while i unplugged, waited 10 sec and replugged
ths was the new dmesg

[ 893.793402] usb 3-2: new high-speed USB device number 6 using xhci_hcd
[ 893.793446] usb 3-2: Device not responding to set address.
[ 893.997363] usb 3-2: Device not responding to set address.
[ 894.201170] usb 3-2: device not accepting address 6, error -71

then i pulled the battery and waited a moment then booted
[ 1338.971248] usb 3-1: new high-speed USB device number 23 using xhci_hcd
[ 1338.971315] usb 3-1: Device not responding to set address.

went into twrp mounted usb storage
[ 1492.127195] usb 3-3: new high-speed USB device number 25 using xhci_hcd

[ 1492.590929] hub 3-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 3

went from twrp to bootloader
[ 1595.649336] usb 3-2: new high-speed USB device number 27 using xhci_hcd
[ 1595.649401] usb 3-2: Device not responding to set address.

[ 1596.113115] hub 3-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 2

at this point I see two possibilities
1 hardware problem
2 corrupt software

to try and isolate 1 I will try flashing back to factory and see what happens.

so I tore the phone down and inspected all the solder joints around the usb port, I also re flowed them just for good measure though none looked bad just a bit dry for my taste. the port does not appear to be the problem. I think that this is has something to do with the software from one of the first roms I loaded. I have been thinking back and Im dead sure that this phone has not been popping up the zte drivers folder when i connect it to a computer. There has to be some files / prom data that deals with the connection that got corrupted somehow :( so I flashed factory recovery back and tried that with no dice either, I get ftm mode but the same output from dmesg.

so now im flashing back to cwm but I am wondering what files are ava to flash eg bootloader?, I do have a nandroid backup but how much does that include?

confused about what to do from here as zte's restore software is doa..

ok so the nandroid backup finished flashing and no dice, Im guessing whatever wrote the screen that is a grey background with an android and the text saying android next to it, very similar to splash screen that says mr bobo was here in the lower corner.
The first power on splash screen is the only thing that stayed over from the nandroid backup, so im curious if someone has another that they can throw in an archive and post for me, it would be much appreciated :)

I'm wondering if anything in the Sticky threads at the top might work for you.
Check it out and see if a stock signed rom might flash. Or, maybe something else up there?

Nandroid backups generally contain /system /data and boot.img (mmcblk0p12)...as to the grey android splash that was part of Mr. Bobo's earlier n00b roms and Dizzle's Cyanoid rom and would remain until another rom flashes over that file. What rom were you running when the nandroid backup was made?

hmmm...I'd go with what lilbit said...try flashing one of the signed stock roms...also double check and make sure you're running the right drivers

can you please start a new thread for this issue? it does not appear to be ROM specific, I didn't do anything with the ROM to mess with usb and I haven't heard of anyone else with this issue.

If you want to rule out software you can use the zte handset update tool to go back to stock completely. Best of luck to you!

the stock splash screen can be found in post three of this thread.

Just a quick question. Is anyone still getting black text when downloading files? I find it to be hit or miss on my end, but I think it may just be when i download apps. As soon as it's done, it turns white like it's suppose to. This is after a clean install of VI and then update to VII right after. It's not a big deal to me, just unsure if it's just me.

Yeah I get that too but I prefer the black background so I make do with it. My workaround is just holding my finger on it to highlight like I'm gonna swipe to remove so I can read it. Bl@ckm@rt is what does it to me primarily

Try this: #1207

It's a fix for the black text issue that Mr. Bobo released a little while ago. It's for stock N00b VI, but you shouldn't have any issues flashing it with N00b VII. Alternatively, you could install my theme, which includes the black text fix :)

The fix gets rid of most of the black text issues (e.g. Pandora, Play Store), but I'm still experiencing them when I receive files using bluetooth and downloading files using Boat Browser.
