Root [Boost Mobile] [ROM] n00b (B10 based) VIII.II FULL Install 1/23/2013

I just wanted to jump on board and again bow down to Mr.Bobo. Installed NoobII two days ago, then got immediately swamped at work. Now that im slowing back down, i got my zeam launcher back in place and all aps up and running, THIS ROM ROCKS.
I love almost everything you added (Especially the new MI File Explorer, I havent had a whole lot of time to play with it, but first impression says its going to be my new fave!).
Everything is smooth and functions perfectly.
I did have one question. Although i can appreciate the work that went into making many of the icons fit the black and white theme you have going, personally i would prefer the original colored icons (with the exception of the MI File Browser because the stock icon is fugly IMHO), is there an easy way to revert back to orginal icons with out uninstalling, and reinstalling?

I can't call any one I don't have serves so I want to call 233 but it dose not work help pls

Re?Boost Your Boost Mobile Cell Phone | Boost Mobile

You can do it online, per that page it's supposed to be #233, or you can call 1-888-BOOST-4U (1-888-266-7848).

Mine is set up to pay automatically so I haven't used the phone option before but I don't think my ROM would have effected that function. I just called and it goes right through to boost, but my phone has service, can someone else who doesn't use auto pay give it a try to confirm it works?

I went back and forth on this one, in the end I decided to force my theming on people while I wait for adw elegant to update their theme to include icons for some of my system apps... I believe they are working on icons for some of the ones I manually themed, but I was pretty torn because manually theming isn't the best way to go but I did want to push people towards my theme because it takes the black/white approach to a new level... it's not for everyone though and I appreciate the desire for a splash of color... so here is a link to change the icons back for the ones I manually themed except for the file explorer, that one is hideous and I can't bring myself to put it back... http://db.tt/T74IuhjE

OK I got I payed now I am going to see if it works one more thing for noobll rom do I have to download any thing for it ?and i am running the miui theme and your rom is awesome its the only one I did not have any prombles with only the home button thing but that got fixed :D:thumbup:

Second I added crt and power menu to the framework-res.apk, framework.jar and android.policy.jar files

Tutorials/resources

I went to the CRT TV off effect tutorial you linked to amongst other things to learn how to do these things as a sort of introduction to customizing my own ROM but i hit a snag.

I was able to ADB pull the framework-res.apk from my device, Decompile said apk, edit the said bool to false, compile said apk (succesfully followed remove resources.arsc instructions) which results in an unsignedframework-res.apk and upon trying to rename/ADB push said unsignedframework-res.apk i get the "file not found" error so i went to page 3 and tried to a suggestion to rename and place this file in an update.zip but i can't move this said zip to my SD card so every angle of trying to put this framework back on my device has failed.

was hoping maybe you could give some helpful information to get me back on track or maybe tutor me in the was of SDK to get myself back on the track of learning more about making my own ROM.

Take the resources file and copy it into the other apk, using 7zip to open archive. You should be set then.

First off... you can't use an unsigned app... second... you must extract the resources.arsc file from the new framework apk and place it in the original framework... then you place the original apk into this flashable zip http://db.tt/lXqwcJPx

Make sure you place it into /system/framework/ or it will place your file into the wrong location... after that just flash it in cwm

--now i feel like a complete idiot while waiting for replies i deleted everything SDK and now when trying to decompile it's giving me the can't find file error so I'm going to go back to the begining and follow instructions verbatum step by step and when i get back to the point that things are working I'll give your advice a try.

disregard that i was trying to install SDK manager from the r20 installer and for whatever reason it was being ******, so i used the apkmultitoolinstaller and put it in a seperate directory and had no problems took a whoping 5 min at most to put the CRT function on my current setup thanks so much guys now i can focus on deodexing and debloating then it's on to skinning! yay and i though UOT was the only thing to making a custom rom this is getting more fun and the learing curve gets really sharp once you get the idea of things

I found a way to get the panoramic feature to finally work in Camera ICS+ . You first have to freeze the miui camera and leave the ICS camera in the data file. Do not make it a system app. This is the only way thus far I have got it to work.

you probably have to move the lib file from the camera folder in data/data to system/lib to get it to work as a system app... I don't include any paid apps in the ROM, but good call on freezing miui camera to make it work... I noticed the gallery button doesn't work in camera ics, does it work in plus or do you have to open quickpix separately? I had never seen the panorama feature, very cool!

No, it opens up right to Quickpic. I use Link2sd to make data apps system apps. I did have issue with connecting to any gallery app when I made ICS+ a system app. The Miui camera is good, I just like the other one better.

I themed this rom it was my first time theming I oh so proud of myself watch out there might b a rom coming soon to.... Lol

just an update in case anyone was wondering I am working on an update, mostly smallish theming/apk work (this will just be an update zip, no data loss, I will have a full clean udpate as well, but wanted to give people an easy option for an update)

n00bIII

  • ditching xperia launcher for holo, it's smaller and supported by the play store, and more suited to our screen size by default
  • updating apps to latest versions
  • incorporating theme zip I put out earlier with updated signal/wifi/usb/dialer/contacts
  • changing battery to a number with a small indicator
  • adding dsp manager for audio (you can turn the volume up with it, cm7 apk I believe)
  • putting stock icons back (thanks everyone, the majority seem to prefer this)
  • removing the elegant theme because it doesn't work with holo launcher

no eta, but I think I might be close :)

Just updated posts 1 and 2 with n00b III info and links. I also put up a flashable update zip on post 1 to take people who are on n00b II to III without losing data.

On post 3 I added a flashable zip of apps I use regularly, this will also not effect your data. I figured it would make my life easier to have that around and maybe some others were curious what apps I use regularly.

Enjoy!

Most of my startup apps are force closing...im rebooting now into recovery to fix permission and clear cache. Will see if that helps.

UPDATE: That seemed to do the trick. Works fine. Thanks!

Thanks, What were you coming from, n00b2? Did you just do the update zip or the full install?
