Root [Boost Mobile] Working ROMS/MODS/KERNELS/MODEMS/ECT for the Boost S3

Go into your phone settings and update your profile. Reboot and try sending after you have given the phone time to boot up fully. Texting should be working perfectly.

Also, Sprint only allows so many characters to be sent via SMS. It will break the message into separate messages. There is also a setting in some messaging apps to convert to MMS if the character limit goes over its limit.

You can always use a messaging app from Play too. I use the donate version of Chompsms. You have to go Into the stock app and disable the notification or you will receive dual notifications.

I am using google hangouts as my messaging app, the stock app I froze with tb because it said I would get two notifications, one from each app. I'll have to look in google hangouts to see if there is a way to convert to mms, thanks for the feedback.

I got it to send and receive but I was in the hangouts app and I can't figure out how to get it to automatically go to mms when it exceeds the character count.

It did, but backlash (largely from the international community I believe) made them change it.

People were sending MMS without knowing it and getting charged huge overages by their carriers

If you're looking for a new messaging app, try 8sms :)

Ok, I'll have to try that, thanks. Is it like hangouts?

Not exactly. Its a standard messaging app, so it doesn't have the Google+hangouts integration if you use that. Its very close to the cyanogenmod messaging app if you ever used one of their ROMs.

You would think Google could take another approach besides "all or nothing" to this situation! Hangouts has definitely grown on me, but I like to be able to text without paying attention to whether or not I'm running out of characters. At the very least, they could have it as a user option with a warning, like "coffee is hot," because nobody can do anything like a grownup these days without those warnings!

I agree, I imagine at some point they'll have the option to allow it within the app settings. However, this was more of an "emergency" patch for those overseas

At least I think it used to send large SMS as MMS. Its possible I'm going senile

Good information on Hangouts. I've never used it as an SMS or MMS app which they have integrated and are pushing now. I wasn't familiar with any bugs or patches until now. I was however familiar with bugs when they switched from Talk to Hangouts.

I still recommend Chompsms too. The only difference between the free version and the paid version are the ads. It has the split option in the settings and the stock settings split the message automatically for you. It really is a nice app.

Also, don't freeze the stock app because there is a possibility you'll lose some messaging features. Just disable the notification check box in its settings.

Just flashed MOAR 7.1. No problems so far. I did full wipe. I even wiped my internal SD which was a mess of redundant folders. Glad I did, so far.

The first thing I did was flash the Titanium backup zip that it will create so that you do not have to reinstall from Play. If you have not used this feature, I recommend it.

Then I restored SwiftKey and Tapatalk. Lol.

Everything seems to be working Even though the XDA thread is full of horror stories. Maybe I just haven't found them yet.

Ah, that New ROM smell...

Ran new MOAR for most of the day myself, with clean install. Don't know where everyone is getting the horror stories either, I assume, from what I have read in general, that there is a lot of user error going on. Ran very smooth for me, but just switched over to the newest CyanFox and holy cow, also very fast and smooth! Believe CyanFox will be my new daily for a few.

Edit: don't know if you saw some of the posts about barely any room left on the /system partition as well, but mine had about 470 MB free according to Titanium, after removing a few things. Even before the housecleaning it was over 400.

I just flashed it an hour ago, but I had zero problems. I am not going to mess with it too much for a day as far as adding and removing apps, but I am glad that I reformatted my internal SD CARD. I moved a lot of stuff to my external SD temporarily, mostly my over 4GB of Music.

Not much on the internal now.

I think a lot of the problems people are having with MOAR are due to user error too except for the internal storage issue. That has got to be ROM related. One thing is for sure, if I decide to flash MOAR I'll be wiping everything including the internal. From what I've read, that is taking care of the storage issue.

One thing people fail to recognize when they flash these new ROMs is that they are totally new builds and will have some bugs. It's just one of those things that come with new builds.

If you notice, the Wicked Sensations ROM is still labeled a beta at the actual download too. ;)

I don't know how many audiophiles we have but I highly recommend a DSP called Viper. It is VERY complete and you will be able to tell the difference.

It works with all the music and podcast, radio apps. There is also a recommended Music app called Neutron that is also awesome.

Neutron is an acquired taste with a UI that takes getting used to. Also it has an evaluation version that lasts for 5 days. $5 for the paid version, which I have not bought yet.

But Viper is FREE and it is worth a look. You will not be sorry. Oh, and Viper is a root app.

Thumbs up for Viper!

I've been tempted to try Viper. It has some good reviews. I use PlayerPro with its downloadable DSP pack and love it.

I believe that Player Pro will work with Viper. You don't need their DSP pack in that case. Let Viper handle your Audio Effects in the Sound menu in System Settings.

It is much easier to install then it once was. I went with maximum quality using both cores. I have not noticed much battery drain yet. But I only used it for about 2 hours today during my commute

Just installed it on Moar 7.1 so I will be using it tomorrow too.

Cool beanz. I may just give this puppy a try then. Thanks for the heads up Wy.:D

Well, I went ahead and installed Viper and I'm glad I did! The sound coming through my headphones is outstanding! This is the 1st time I've used the headphones that came with the phone and I must admit that they surprised me. Their sound quality along with the Viper mod is a winner for me. Now I can't wait to see what it sounds like when I get it hooked up to my car. Hot Damn!

This is the song I jammed to on my 1st test. Get some good headphones and turn it up because this tune JAMS! Time to throw on some Tool, man! :D

Biker, I have been on a quest to make the S3 sound as good as the HTC One SV. I know it has the hardware, just needs the right software! I think that is all the SV Beats is mostly anyway, some creative equalizing that best buy salesmen use to sell overpriced headphones.

The SV did sound good though. Out of the box.

I still have a lot of reading to figure out how to really use Viper, though.

I did find that the Pocket Cast app was not processing through the speakers, but it does through BlueTooth. So, you may have some glitches like that. Who really wants to listen through the phone speakers anyway?

Biker, I have been on a quest to make the S3 sound as good as the HTC One SV.

In my opinion, the sound quality on the HTC One was absolutely horrifying... The speaker on that thing was so quiet you couldn't even hear it in a public setting...

The Beats Audio that it boasted about could not even be played on that phone speaker, it had to be played thru an alternative Bluetooth speaker or sound system...

But if you did like that sound system, look up "Beats Audio by Dr Dre" and see if there some type of app that you can download

Once again that's just my opinion on that phone I did like the phone but the speaker quality of it sucked!!!!!!
I think the speaker quality of the s3 is a hundred times better

I didn't do a good job on that post. When I had the SV, I rarely used the speakers. I used the headphone jack. That was where I noticed the good sound on the SV. I wasn't using BlueTooth then either.

Since I got the S3, I do use BlueTooth instead of the jack. And come to think of it, I use the speakers to listen to podcasts at night sometimes now too. I never did that with the SV.

Yeah, I very rarely used the SV with its speaker. I mainly used my car or headphones. It did have a good sound like that. The stock speaker sucked though. I was using the sound hack to make it louder which helped out a little bit.

I'm very surprised at how well the stock headphones sounded too with this S3. I usually use a set that covers my entire ear. I can't wait to see what this baby sounds like when hooked up to the car sound system. Viper made a big difference with the headphones so it should sound decent in the car.

@Wy. You're right Bro. This phone has good hardware. It just needed the software to help bring the good sound out. Thanks again for bringing up Viper. I've been thinking about giving it a try for awhile now. Your post was that little kick in the tail I needed. LOL! :D

Thanks for all the help. I officially have root, a backup and M.O.A.R. 4.1.2 running. I stuck with stock everything. I went with philz after obtaining root. I have not tried any new modems yet. I had to call boost for my msl. Easier than I thought, but the lady asked me why I needed my msl and I just told her to go pound salt. Just kidding. I just said I would like to have it. She then put me on hold (probably to ask her supervisor if that is allowed) and then gave it to me. :-)
I had a problem with MMS for a bit. Went with the fix, but no luck. I then remembered to update my profile and bingo, all is good. Thanks so much for the help. This phone is awesome. I will check 4g Monday @ work. Don't have it at home yet. :-(
