Root [Boost Mobile] Working ROMS/MODS/KERNELS/MODEMS/ECT for the Boost S3

I didn't try bionic after reading the XDA thread. My antutu bench lost 150 points so I am assuming AOSB already has optimized dalvik... Going to revert now...

The thread is here:

[4.4/4.4.x][PATCH] Qualcomm-optimized Dalvik & Bionic libraries - xda-developers

EDIT- Reverting to stock cost me over 3000 points in antutu confirming AOSB already has optimized dalvik. TIme to flash the new build!

For anyone who hasn't checked out AOSB yet, it's slick:

Only so much can be gained from benchmarks. With that said, quadrant is horribly inconsistent.

You may have run into the well respected root Dev chainfire

chainfire said:
However, if you put any trust in Quadrant scores you could use them to prove that dancing naked for 5 minutes in your garden affects device performance.

;)

The reason an optimized dalvik was posted for the nexus 4 is because it was AOSP. IE Qualcomm used a less optimized version of their proprietary dalvik libs so it could be open sourced.

Devices/manufacturers that aren't AOSP pay up for the proprietary bits and get the further optimized code

Hence why I think you shouldn't see any real effect.

Do you have a link? You guys should already have an optimized dalvik

The link to the thread for Qualcomm-optimized Dalvik library is in the CM11 thread.

Yep. I've heard that Pro-Bam is nice.

I might give it a try but I know I'll end up going back to Carbon. I like Carbon because it fits me. The latest build has been running great since getting the GPS and the WiFi hotspot working too. I'm very impressed with Carbon right now. :D

I'm going to check Carbon out too... It looks pretty sweet.

I have had no issues on AOSB with GPS or WiFi Hotspot... or anything else for that matter :) I'm going to try kernels now that I just flashed the newest build. I'm thinking maybe Lean kernel... Suggestions?

Here is the newest versions of dkp for AOSP. I highly recommend using it.

The kernel is bad to the bone bro. I use Trickster app to control the kernel. You can use what you want but the paid version of Trickster is sweet. The free version is nice too.

I just flashed Pro Bam. Gonna see what's its working with. :D

UPDATE

XTHEME- HUE

Hey guys. I found some super nice themes for AOSP based ROMs. Kroz offers theme support for builds 1.0 all the way up to 4.4 so whatever AOSP ROM you're running, chances are he's got a theme color for you.

He has more than themes in his thread so be sure to head over to it and check it out. Don't forget to hit the THANKS tab while you're there. :)

Kroz Themes, Bootanimations, wallpapers, etc--

NICE SCREEN PROTECTORS!!!!

EDIT: I just wanted to pass along a little info about some nice screen protectors I found. They are made by Tech Armor and they are some nice ones. There run about $6+ for a 3 pack. IMO they are worth every dime.

They Even have a video showing the best way to install them. OH DID I MENTION THE LIFE TIME WARRANTY? LOL !!

Has anyone figured out the battery drain problem yet for 4.4 roms? I loved how carbon felt too but could also feel the battery melting away. I've stuck with slim Kat for a week now with literally zero issues and can get my normal battery performance out of it. I'm not sure why there is a difference. I'm not complaining since I love slim now it works so perfectly, but would like to move to a different Rom once they get battery life hashed out (if it isn't already)

Have you tried the latest DKP kernel with Trickster mod? There is also a thread referenced here somewhere on everything related to battery life.

dkp is running slick. Thanks for the recommendation. Gonna have to dig through apnsconfg.xml and fix my apn settings after this flash... no MMS. I haven't done this from scratch. If I remember correctly I need to delete telephony.db before reboot after modifying apn settings?

I think I only tried dkp on an older version when I first got this phone. Lately booping the 4.4 aosp roms with bms has been doing the trick for me but getting the newest dkp right now to check it out!

My biggest drain was the keyboard (besides screen of course) go into both aosp and google keyboard settings and turn off the floating preview option to start then check things out. There are a few things you don't need turned on in there that will help tremendously. I'm running AOSB 4.4 with a stock battery and have great battery life.

I read up on that a bit but I always turn the stock keyboard off anyway, didn't know if it would help since I just shut it down. I like the official Swype keyboard too much. I still saw battery drain but I can try turning those off before disabling the keyboard who knows it might just do it

Here is the link for the battery life tricks and tips thread, can't remember where Biker posted it originally:

UPDATE

I have been running AOSB Pro Bam for over 24 hours now and it's running great. I used the camera2.apk that Struckn pulled out of Vanir and that seems to have fixed the camera issue. I am running the newest dkp AOSP kernel too.

This ROM has Xposed framework built in along with Halo and multi window. I honestly haven't tried all the options yet. A good many of which I'll never use on a daily basis.

Overall the ROM is running great and I recommend giving it a try. I'm probably going to run it for another day or so then I'm going to switch back to Carbon.

Strange. I haven't had any camera issues... Loving the newest dkp. It's so smooth I actually under clocked and don't notice any loss of speed... Battery life is excellent.

Flashed Philz newest recovery for d2lte. Downloaded the newest nightly for Carbon which is now d2lte instead of d2spr.

I downloaded this to my phone. I flashed it without changing any asserts. Guess What?

It work!!

Philz did some magic because the asserts still do not mention d2vmu.

Well.....I ended up going back to 4.1.3 again. Something about 4.3 has really bad issues with call quality.....it's really bad.
Everything's running good so far.

Kinda curious what changed to make the call quality so bad.

Well, until they find a fix, if you want to have LTE on an AOSP rom it is best to stay away from the d2lte builds. d2spr builds will still provide LTE.

I have not put everything through its paces yet but I know that I have lost LTE. I can watch the radios switch modes in Carbon from the about phone screen and it ain't seeing LTE.

I will restore a d2spr backup and see what happens

its a problem with the drivers. iread it on an xda thread. a new dkp kernal to address this is being built. im now using wicked rom but i believe i had less problem with static power

I'm on moar8.0 since it came out and have no problems with any of call or any sounds at all except I wish I could turn up the in-call vol, but is all clear. I actually have the extreme vol and have the media, ring and notifications turned down a little because they are too loud, but it won't raise in-call vol. I'm also running mk3 modem if that makes any difference.

I could not get LTE on the Carbon 0218 d2lte build at all. I tried a lot of stuff. The 4g fix zip did not help.

I finally restored a backup of TW MOAR. Had LTE. Restored my backup of d2spr. LTE held where it didn't before. Restored my backup of d2lte and it now has LTE.

Probably have to do this again after a dirty flash of the next nightly. But, maybe not.

I might wait until they get this d2lte thing figured out.
