Root [Boost Mobile] Working ROMS/MODS/KERNELS/MODEMS/ECT for the Boost S3

I'm surprised there aren't more bricks on users phones. I swear other than a few people here no one goes out of their way to actually research and learn. You people should appreciate the spoons knowledgeable users are using to feed you. God forbid you should ever have to learn anything or read the technical information posted elsewhere.

If you have a external sdcard you can copy and paste the sms backup folder or move if you want to your external sdcard and you'll be fine

I'm trying to give you a clean phone with nothing on it so when you install the rom it might help with the fcs(force closes)

If you don't want to disregard the whole first section of this but its your choice I'm just trying to help
Overall
You really could just try to install the rom first then the boost apn zip to get data then let it boot don't install the gapps because I'm sure that's probably what's making it fcs once the rom boots let it sit for about 10 seconds reboot back into recovery then install the gapps and if you get fcs then it's the version of pa gapps your using

internal SD? As far as I knew, there never was an internal SD card, or I might have tried to take it out and put a bigger one in. As for the SMS backup, I have that on my regular SD card. So when I hear SD card, I think the one I can take out of the phone. If you mean the internal nand, I wish Philz would refer to it as such; it would make this a lot less confusing.

The S3 has two storage locations. The external, removable SD card and the built in storage. The device refers to this internal storage as an SD card. Now its been a long time since I've had this device, but I believe the internal storage is SDcard 0, and the external sd card thats actually an SD card is SDcard 1

Someone else will have to confirm that for me

Correct, card 0 is phone and card 1 is micro SD

Windows and Linux show card 0 as "phone" and card 1 as "card" or "ex-storage"

Don't get me wrong, I like to tinker... as long as I have a way to undo it.

The reason I even started looking elsewhere, is in large part because Knox seems to be specifically engineered to take that privilege away from me. And that's just one thing I can't abide by on an ethical standpoint.

But at the end of the day, this is my only phone. Meaning, if I can't use it because it's crashing all the time, that's a huge problem. So yes, I follow the recommendations of others here because I have enough respect for this community to trust them. But when I am going through four or five different iterations and finding it crashing left and right on a lot of the same things, I have to start calling it into question.

That said, I did try to follow rxpert's advice to use the clean option, wipe davlik and stuff, and then flash just AOKP and just the APN. I was stunned with how quickly it started up. And the fact that it seemed to work. But as soon as I flashed the same version of the gapps provided on AOKP's site, it starts endlessly crashing on the keyboard, and won't let me do anything else.

Try these. The newest GAPPS are from 5/16. Anything that is not in this package can be found on Play. This is the mini-modular GAPPS package.
Goo.im Downloads - Browsing older versions

Do a factory reset ( clean ROM install) Wipe cache and Dalvik cache. Flash the ROM, then flash the GAPPS, then flash the APN fix. Easy peasy.
 
Force closes are usually the result of an incomplete wipe, a bad download, or incompatible gapps.

You'll need to have /data, /system, /dalvik cache and /cache wiped in order for the flash to be considered a "clean" wipe. These partitions can be named different things depending on the recovery, but most have an option to wipe all of these for you, or have you manually do each wipe prior to a ROM flash.

Most ROMS will have an "MD5" posted along with the download. This is a string of numbers and letters that you can compare with the file you downloaded to confirm its the exact file that person uploaded.

I think this is the program I use:

Philz recovery has some nice features. Under the WipeData/Factory Reset it has the option "Clean to Install a New ROM". This option basically takes care of everything that needs to be wiped for a new ROM install. I'm old fashioned and still go take the extra steps of wiping the cache and the Dalvik cache. :)

The newer versions of Philz Recovery also has an MD5 checker. Once the ROM has been chosen a check will begin at the botton of the screen. You will see a blue progress bar. That is Philz checking the MD5. I usually wait until the check is completed before going ahead with the flash. I advise others to do the same.

Philz is definitely a beautiful piece of work and the best recovery available to us right now IMO.


EDIT:

I just want to add one more thing concerning Liquidsmooth. I usually get a systemui FC during the 1st boot. No worries though. Just tap it and it goes away. I've had this happen with the most of the LS builds on 1st boot.

With the most recent builds, I've been getting an occasional systemui FC. I have no idea what causing it but it's there. It's something in the ROM because I've been doing clean installs.

I'm glad you're up and running. Just be aware that you may get occasional FCs with Liquidsmooth. I did. They were rare but I did get them. Just tap it and it'll go away. Sometimes the screen may go dark and when it lights back up, you're on the lockscreen. Just wanted you to be aware of that because I've had it happen a few times. Hopefully you won't have experience it. If you do, at least you know I've had it happen to me too. :)
 
I did just do a clean install of AICP latest nightly. I did end up having to go find some wifi because I got throttled this month and I could never get Google Services to update for my Google Now to operate.

No force closes on AICP. It has been about a month since I last ran it. I am liking it so far.

I will most likely stick with this until LiquidSmooth gets it ironed out.

How many of you use the Samsung account? I know it offers to save your data to its cloud so that's a plus. I've never created one and was wondering how many of you have and actively use it.

If so, please let us know how well it works and all the advantages of having the Samsung account.

I have one and used it for a little bit but as I'm anal about saving my information and data to my sdcard and also syncing with my backups on my backup external hard drive I stopped using it. Didn't see a purpose in another process eating my battery. Plus, with how Samsung is this might be my first and last phone they offer.

I made an account so I could download the photo editor and few other exclusive S3 apps from their store when I first got this phone. That's been it though.

Humm, guess I have been misunderstanding the word meanings all this time. I thought odexed and deodexed had to do with the file system sort of thing, ie: files are more easily manipulated for roms especially using deodexed as compared to odexed. Odexed being what comes on stock roms, and deodexed being more customizable, and what most roms tend to use and prefer to use .
I thought Knox was in the system and system files and hasn't been cracked yet, so..... With this new Knox being as its in a lot of the system and system apps, it would still have Knox, in short you would still be knoxed if you decided to flash the new rom.
Basically if I was on 4.3 TW (no knox) and decided to flash say your new KK TW zip, I would then be knoxed. I thought this is why the couldn't get the sprint rom without getting Knox.
So I guess maybe I'm misunderstanding something somewhere :)
 
I may be wrong, but I don't think that the odex status has much to do with Knox. I thought that the main problem is that Knox is in the Bootloader and maybe the radio and can't be removed. But, it is only a problem if you ever want to downgrade from ND8 to an older Bootloader.
 
Grrrr... I don't know how much longer I can hold on... I'm trying as hard as I possibly can not to do it... but the urge is really starting to overwhelm me... I have enough cash to do so but I know I really shouldn't and this is me talking and not my wife... my innards are really pulling at me to drop the cash and get the s5... my mind is going crazy... and I don't even wanna stick with boost but yet its $80 a month for me and my wife and if I was to switch then I'd have to get two phones instead of just one plus a slightly higher monthly rate... I'm pulling my hair out here guys, am I the only one having this complication? I'm losing it here and I'm ready to give! Grrrrrr.

take it from a full fledged phone WHORE! the s5 is NOT worth the money. I am coming to boost from TMO and had the s3 and s4 (which was a definite upgrade). But s4 to s5, worthless. But everytime, ALWAYS came back to the s3!

and TMO just got WAY expensive and Boost has gotten a TON better since my BB8350i and plans are better (granted I'm in a Metropolitan city with good coverage).

I have been checking out the S5 also. But having the S4, too many needless features to charge more money for. I'm waiting for the G3 or even the Xperia Z series to come to boost.

We'll see, but for now, I have to save the cash and pay for other things.

I knew it wasn't the rom because that didn't make sense that everything you flashed crashed

I think we maybe need to post a in the red font under the asop section of this thread FLASH THE NEWEST VERSION OF GAPPS UPDATED OR YOU WILL HAVE ISSUES lol
