Root Boost Moto E 2015 LTE Stock 5.0.2 and 5.1 Soak test ROMs

Have you unlocked your bootloader? If so, try fastboot booting TWRP and see how it goes. If it boots you can fastboot flash it to the recovery and flash the rom after making a backup.

okay SuperR :p finally unlocked the bootloader then made a backup via fastboot boot surnia_twrp_2870.img. I didn't install twrp yet - only used it to make a backup fresh after unlocking bootloader. I wanted first to make sure to back everything up in it's present state before rooting. I'm assuming by backing up the data ect. that the system.Ext4.tar.a file bcrichter mentioned, also got backed up? What concerns me at the moment was his statement "Everything but radio(data) [theoretically] should work". Since I'm very inexperienced, I have a couple of questions I'm hoping you can help me with.
1. I assume i should install twrp and SuperSU at this point
2. "fastboot flash it to the recovery" ( meaning the 5.1 recovery u have on pg. 1 you provided)?
3. next make backup
4. then flash 5.1 soak test rom

I'm thinking i most definately am a bit off. I want to approch this from an order of operations perspective.
If the order of operations i've listed are off please correct me and big thankyou for taking a bit of your time.

I am on 5.0.2 on my moto e 2015 and I am using virgin as my carrier, how can I update to 5.1 without losing root? Or how can I fix root after? Reason I ask is my phone says I am running a boost ROM, could I dirty flash the 5.1 ROM to update and then flash SuperSU again to regain root access?

[i certainly don't know but, curious are you using one of SuperR's soak roms on virgin mobile? if so does it currenlty work well? meaning no problems with data, wifi, etc?

Nope, not using his ROM just stock rooted with twrp, I can't use my camera and have no idea how to update this and not lose root. Ota update manager keeps bugging me all day long though lol data and everything besides camera work. I tried cm 12.1 but I found it lagged over time so I restored my backup back to 5.0.2

The camera on 5.0.2 breaks when rooted. This problem is solved with 5.1

Will I brick this phone if I just flash your ROM, it says I'm using boost software
If you flash the 5.1 ROM it will not brick. If you don't flash the partitions, the screen will glitch until you turn off the screen and turn it back on. That will be the only issue. I have no idea how the data and calls will work on virgin. I also have no idea how the partitions will work on a virgin device and you can't go back after flashing them so I would try the rom first to see how it goes.

Would it be a bad idea to dirty flash this or do a full wipe in twrp and then flash it?
The ROM itself I mean. I made a good twrp so if all hell breaks loose I can go back to stock as long as I don't flash the partitions. If I flash SuperSU after the ROM will it break my camera or was that just on 5.0.2?

If you don't flash the partitions you can easily go back to your 5.0.2 twrp backup. SuperSU will not break the camera in 5.1. I always recommend a clean flash but you can try whatever you like.

I tried just flashing the ROM itself after a clean wipe and twrp threw an error about the updater script, I reflashed my backup but I was under the impression the updater-script is in the ROM itself but it acted like it was missing

Try wiping data and cache, reboot recovery from the twrp menu, then flash the rom again.

I flashed it using these directions and I can confirm that data, calls, texts and camera all work on this phone. Thanks for your help :) just a quick edit: after about an hour in I rebooted my phone and found that my sim was locked. I'm still not sure if there was confusion and it was a carrier lock but I had to restore my backup. When I am near a computer again I'll give it another shot. I have a backup of my build.prop from the virgin Mobile 5.0.2 ROM, maybe I should compare the two and see what the differences are. Is there any way to make this a no carrier ROM?

I already have exposed installed and have a few modules like gravitybox and stuff but what I'm not sure its on whether I need a computer to theme it or it can just be done on the phone. feel me?
