Boot Animation :)

Hey I'm curious about something. I'm not operating on a rooted device. I would like to be able to put a new boot animation on my device, possibly the R2D2 boot animation w/the sounds and what not. I was told by a Verizon rep that I was speaking to who shall remain nameless, and by speaking I mean through code, because the call was being recording that there is a way to put a new boot animation on your device with just ASTRO by simply renaming certain files and copying and pasting them into the right folders. When I asked him (also in coded message) how he knew all of this he said he knew Steven. I said well I don't know who Steven is, all I hear about is a person named Birdman on these forums and everytime I hear about him I get an image of him in a dark basement with a never ending cup of coffee pounding away on a keyboard and he started laughing and he said Steven's a nice guy. And then he directed me to download SDK on my computer and create a few things.

LOL. So that point of that whole story beside the awesome service that I received, was can someone tell me in detailed instructions how to put a boot animation like this or R2D2 on my phone without having to root and possibly with just ASTRO?

Not even close yet, but definitely trying :)
And btw, sorry for confusion yesterday, bootanimation zip goes to /data/local, not system/local as I mistakenly said

No no, tsokay! I got it r2d2 up and running fine. I'll try this baby out later.

so how do i use this?
I just installed teh entire r2d2 boot animation in teh data\local directory of the phone's main memory.

I had to change the name of the file to bootanimation.zip and it recognized it. Lemme know how it goes.

I don't think so, you need root explorer, as you need to do function that require root access.

data is folder on the root drive of the phone and local is a sub folder of data

just got RE and worked. thanks.
now before i refund my money can you tell me why i shud keep RE lol

How do you do this without root? I have heard from several users that you don't have to be rooted. Can someone tell me how to do this for a nonrooted user?
