How do you do this without root? I have heard from several users that you don't have to be rooted. Can someone tell me how to do this for a nonrooted user?

Here is a link to DroidLife for the R2D2 boot screen that has directions how to do it if you are not rooted, I would think you could use this boot screen the same way.

just got RE and worked. thanks.
now before i refund my money can you tell me why i shud keep RE lol

I find root explorer much easier and, more important, much faster than Astro. If you start tinkering with your phone your gonna need RE, I've had to have it for a couple things. I also noticed that when I have renamed some files with Astro they no longer work correctly, I lost pics this way.
