Root Boot animation

But the normal boot animation disappeared when you put the bootanimation.zip in /system/customize/resource or before that?

When I first went into customize/resource to move the old one and replace with the new there was never anything labeled bootanimation.zip as everyone says.

The fact that you now have a black screen instead of the annoying Sprint 4G animation means that you've renamed, moved, or deleted the original bootanimation.zip, wherever it might be on your phone. Do you remember ever renaming, moving, or deleting bootanimation.zip? If not, we can't really help you.

But again, the fact that you don't get the 4G animation means you did manage to disable the bootanimation. If you do remember what you did, rename/move it back, and see if the 4G animation appears again.
 
I never removed ,renamed, or deleted the original as I have said. The file was not listed.
 
Not anymore. I get splash screen, then its just black with no sound. Then boots up.
BTW there is only the animation frames. I did not put in decs.txt or that last frame. As the instruction for root explorer never mentioned them. i.e. the part1 part0 stuff
 
Ok, let's try this.

delete your bootanimation.zip from /system/customize/resource and your SPC_animation_final.mp3. Then, rename the original mp3 back.

Reboot and see if the 4G and annoying boop sound is back. If it is, proceed.

Go to /system/media and see if there's a bootanimation.zip in there, along with a file called android_audio.mp3

Those are the files for eclaire (2.1), but maybe somehow your ROM is still using the old locations... back up those files and replace them with yours (keep the audio file name android_audio.mp3, not the SPC name) and see if that does it.
 
Sounds a lot easier to just find a flashable .zip and to flash through bootloader. There's a step by step to make anywallpaper into a flashabile .zip also.
 
Deleted bootanimation.zip.
Went to SD card where I rename ORIG_SPC_animation_final.mp3
Removed the ORIG
moved the audio file to customize/resource

Now phone boots up wit splash screen then black screen with small white android sign and no sound.

Where was that SPC_animation_final.mp3 file, originally (before you named it ORIG_SPC_animation_final.mp3)?
 
I still advise you to try replacing the files in /system/media (especially if you see a bootanimation.zip and android_audio.mp3 file there).
 
Ok, here's a few combinations you should try. I have a feeling you inadvertently remove the stock boot animation, but that's ok. Try these combinations (not at the same time):

1) /system/customize/resource/bootanimation.zip with /system/customize/resource/SPC_animation_final.mp3
2) /system/customize/resource/bootanimation.zip with /system/media/android_audio.mp3
3) /system/media/bootanimation.zip with /system/custom/resource/SPC_animation_final.mp3
4) /system/media/bootanimation.zip with /system/media/android_audio.mp3.

EDIT: Oh, and my guess is that your boot animation is broken, which is why it's not working. If you wiped out stock (whether you realize it or not) and replaced it with a file that wasn't created correctly, you'd get something like what you're seeing. That being said, try the above with the stock boot animation and mp3, which I've uploaded for you here:

Rename the mp3, accordingly, based on where you put it.
 
Ok, I dug up my old notes from when I was figuring all this stuff out. The info in here may or may not apply to you, depending on your preferred way to access your filesystem, but keep hacking at it. You'll get it right eventually. Note the part about how to correctly build a .zip file manually.

rename the animation zip to bootanimation.zip and stick it in the adb parent folder.

Boot phone into recovery mode while plugged in via USB

adb shell
mount /system
exit
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/customize/resource/bootanimation.zip
reboot phone




desc.txt explained

Sample data in desc.txt: 480 800 7p 0 0 android

480 = width
800 = height
7p = 7 FPS
0 = times to loop animation. 0 = loop all images in zip forever
0 = pause between loop. 0 = no pause. 10 = longest pause
android = folder containing images



png files can only be in 8-bit or 24-bit color depth. Photoshop default is 32-bit. Use Save as Web function to choose 8, 24.

images must be stored in zip without compression. Using winRAR, choose "Store" as compression type. Default is "Normal," which will break the bootanimation.zip.



The accompanying sound is in /system/media for Android 2.1, and it's in /system/customize/resource for Android 2.2. adb push an mp3 file to overwrite the existing mp3.

I downloaded the files you listed and now I get the original sound and music. So its back to the way it was.

I tried copying the desc from the original and putting it in my animation. and changed my folder from bootanimation to android (within the zip folder), as it looks in the original.

I get black screen with original sound
 
I think novox77 may have to help you out with that one, as it sounds like he's actually done more with actually editing them than I have. Give me a little bit, and I'll probably be able to help you out a little more with those details.

Yeah, I can get it back to the original, but somehow my animation and sound files are not being accepted.

Right, I gathered that you got back to the original. Sounds like you must have overwritten it accidentally :). If I have some time later, I'll look more into actually editing them so I can help you more.
 
I got it to work but the frames are out of order.
What's the quickest way to get them in order on the fly?

i believe you just need to change the filenames of the images in your zip so that they are in alpha/numeric order.
 
This thread is full of awesome. Currently working on some super fun (but nerdy) boot animations.

I cant seem to do changes on this folder, /system/customize/resource, any ideas?
