Root Boot animation

I cant seem to do changes on this folder, /system/customize/resource, any ideas?

What file explorer are you using? You will need one that allows write to the system like root explorer...which has a r/o r/w toggle ability

using ESFile explorer, any advise what to use?

If you go to settings, there is an option for root mode. It has a warning attached that it's only supported on a few devices. I know some people have used it successfully on the evo, though. Make a nandroid backup, first, if you're paranoid. Also, if you're comfortable at the command line in the terminal, this command will mount /system as rw for you:

mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system

This is going to be awesome if it works. Can't wait to show it off. Still editing pics. Then I have an idea for a few more. :) wish the pics side was as easy as.the audio

mount: mounting rw on /dev/block/mtdblock4/system failed: Not a directory

:( what did I do wrong? Im using terminal emulator then su - at prompt them execute that command

pls advise

edit: ooh ther is a space before /system, sorry doing it all ony evo didn't see that earlier

Yep, that's indeed what happened. Keep in mind if you have adb set up, that's easier. Or, you can use something like quicksshd and putty to use the terminal from your computer. It's easier than typing commands on the phone.

soooo much easier to put the files on the sd card, use root explorer, click r/w, copy paste

:P

I cycled through changing the sound with like 5 different mp3's last night in a matter of minutes.

Hehe, well no doubt it's easier with root explorer. Try ES in root mode. That's free, and I know some people have done it successfully. Just backup, first.

Mr. Ed, what exactly are you working on, if you don't mind me asking? :)

Update:
Finished by boot animation (maybe). It runs but is too short in length of run-time.
Does anyone know exactly how many frames are needed so that the animation wont run out causing the the screen to go black while the phone is still booting up.

Also I get a few seconds of black screen inbetween splash screen and animation. Is this where the part1 static image is suppose to be. If so how do you get part1 into the phone using root explorer.
Do I make folders for part0 and part1 and put them both into the
main android folder?

There will be a short pause between the two. Part one is the last image shown.

You need to zip the files. Uncompresed. Part 0 pat one and the script all in the boot animation zip...then put it in the correct folder

Thanx...... I did my animation in photoshop, and read up on the desc info. I can now create and put it on the phone. It's just that the required number of frames (if any) issue, and the length of the sound file issue has not been resolved.

I don't think there is a min max number of frames. sound is tricky, get your frames together then time them..use audacity to create your mp3 for the length of time you need.

it's rough...but I happy...still working out the kinks

This thread is full of awesome. Currently working on some super fun (but nerdy) boot animations.
Would like to see if you ever get a chance to post them up :)

So far i havent found anything id like to change to other than the stock android boot.. lol

Edit: didnt see page two on this thread

Hahaha. That's my first one. Of corse if you have never seen the show...you wouldn't understand. Now that I have a good feeling of how to do them I will try and make some more. At this point the hardest thing is lining up the sound the way I want it.

I may even make my very own first thread creation on xda. We will see :p

Go for it. I think when you reach the 3,000 post count here, youre due for your own thread on xda :p

ok so still to come...

Joker
Transformers
Back to the future
more random crap lol

and then.....

live wallpapers :P

i made a gif of the images, uploaded it to photo bucket. that was the easiest way I could think of.

used animated gif producer 4.1

I imported my files (they were already GIF's). Did you use the converter or save the files as .avi

I did get the GIF but when I uploaded it to photobucket, it distorted it and came over as a movie screen, not like where you just have your gif in this thread. Was there anything else I needed to do?
