Root Boot hanging

The other day my phone starts taking forever to boot. I decide to update from mikg 3.0 to 3.1 however when i try to get into recovery it takes 3-5minutes to boot into recovery. The phone itself also takes forever to load 5+ minutes.

steps ive taken:
formatted sdcard
cleared everything (boot/cache/dalvik/system);several times
factory reset
tried a different sd card

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

that is a puzzler for me too. does it boot slowly when on the charger too, or just when on battery?

may be time to carry it to sprint, maybe flash the latest stock rom to see if that makes a difference.

Please let us know what you find out. good luck!

even more puzzling... the phone is dead now... wont take a charge, wont turn on; wont do anything. Gonna try and swap battery out..

well the battery is the problem for the phone being dead now. I think it just hung at the white screen for so long that it completely drained the battery down. phone is still hanging though with my old non extended battery in it. Really could use some expert advice.

on boot up, im getting 'no image or wrong' image that scrolls down the screen really fast whenever i press the power button and volume down button... if that means anything

That's normal. It's the hboot looking for update files on your SD card.

As for the other problem I'm not really sure, never experienced it myself

well time to see if i can unroot and take it to sprint then .....

*edit
I think its unrooted; off to sprint now !!! phone still taking forever to load.

well all morning and night I had trouble with my phone. I get to sprint and the MF#$@$ boots right up. The clerk proceeds to do a software update (without me knowing) to the newest version. He then put the phone on some machine. 1.5 hours later; Phone boots up lightning fast, does not hang... but is UNROOTED

Is it possible for me to still root?

Hardware version 003
Android v2.3.5

Kernel 2.6.35.10
Build 4.67.651.3

i think you meant rooting. ;)

and yes this is the guide that you can use to re-root your phone. i always makes sure that when i take my phone in to tell the tech not to update my phone.

He was very sneaky !! but ya I should have told him...

UPDATE again.

Apparently the fix that they did was turning FAST BOOT on in the settings section. Fast boot on = 5ish second boot... Fast boot off = 5minute boot time. No clue! but I did manage to get them to send me a new phone. should be here friday.
