Brought the Fascinate Back

Because of the Samsung lack of support I brought the Fascinate back and bought something else. Samsung needs to realize that they are losing customers for not being timely in their updates. Needless to say, I bought a phone with 2.2 Froyo already on it and expect Gingerbread soon.

As a software engineer, getting stuck with Windows Me would be unacceptable, just like getting stuck with Eclair would be.
 
I've been going back and forth between 2.1 and 2.2 roms on my Eris since I first rooted it and I can honestly say that not having Froyo isn't the end of the world.
 
As the wife of an Engineer...lol :rolleyes:,I had the eris and waited...waited...waited for updates (drove me crazy). But with this phone, I don't really care about 2.2. It literally takes less than 2 seconds to connect to the internet and everything else is so fast and great! I don't really think its going to be much better anyways. Too bad you got rid of your phone though because 2.2 is right around the corner.

While I applaud giving Samsung 1 less sale over their atrocious support ( I really do, I wish more folks would use their wallet like this), I am a little confused over something.

Just curious as to how long you had the Fascinate, such that you could take it back and exchange it. Less than 30 days then, I assume? If so, you are citing Samsung's lack of support in that 30 or less days you've owned it as the reason you brought it back? I can't understand that much, as 2.2 will be here soon, and you probably knew 2.1 was on it when purchased (recently?).

Anyway, the only thing that matters is that you have a phone you are happy with now. The rest is just opinions ..
 
I still run XP and can not see using anything else. But hey, what do i know?. Enjoy your lesser of a phone!

An update does not make the phone.
 
How long did you have the phone for and was it past the return time(30 days)? Im trying to do this with my Fascinate. Im sick of all of VZN's/Samsung's BS and I just want a phone to work the way it was intended. The only problem is that Im almost 4-5 months into this phone and am not sure if I can return it at this point. Verizon's in-store techs and manager didnt budge so Im gonna try over the phone. Im sure the last thing they want is to hear an unsatified customer hang up right after asking for the ETF. Im just tired of having to jump through hoops to get my phone working the way I want it too. Im going with the Incredible. That thing I KNOW will work.

best of luck...but i will say battery life on the inc is hideous compared to the fascinate :o
 
Yeah I think everyone [not just red] needs to go into any phone with eyes wide open. Every phone is going to have issues and quirks.

Sorry I'm late in replying. Two of you asked how long I had it... I kept it for like 7 days, but bought it at Best Buy, who has a 30 day return policy. Both myself and my daughter now own HTC Incredibles. Great Phone! and it's got Froyo.
 
The Incredible is a great phone for sure. A step back from the Fascinate hardware-wise but if you must have the latest software, HTC is definitely better about updates

This I know, but considering the near inability to use my phone...Im willing to suffer through it.

Again I know this. Im just sick of having a device that runs half of the way it should be and im paying those jerks a monthly fee to have it work correctly, and its not. The fascinate may have good battery life, but god knows I cant get the damn thing to register my SD card on my computer let alone play music, or keep a freaking phone call! I mean I could over see these things if there was a safe and easy way around it. But I havnt found one yet and without rooting, the phone is not what I payed for. My initial instict was to go with the Dinc, and although I know it has problems, I believe I should have stuck with it.

Yes if you root it, it can be a dream, but I dont feel like voiding my warranty and bricking my phone because stock its not even 50% workable. Or at least to what I think a smart phone should be. And the other android phones on VZN are exactly what I think a smartphone should be.

Again, I have to interject; stock, the phone performed fabulously for me. I only modded it because I have an incessant need to tinker.

It did last 5 days un-modded, which is more than I can say for most devices I own.

its all relative though...some people have had dud fascinates that have had untold issues...others of us have been fairly lucky with good ones.

also, compared to a bone stock droid incredible or droid x, the stock fascinate just isnt as good imo. Ive had all 3, so I feel more than qualified to make that assesment. (and of course compared to an iphone these phones stock are all buggy)

Now a rooted fascinate running various kernels/mods/roms more than holds up against those phones. But for those not interested in that, i completely understand the frustration

And, I agree here. However, my first thought if I have many problems out of the box, is to return like-for-like. If Unit #2 has the same problems, then call it "shite".

I've used the Droid X, LG Ally, and the Fascinate. I traded my Droid X for the Fascinate. I still have the Ally.

As you said, it's all subjective as to how "good" something is, if you are considering other things than just bare hardware specs.

Now a rooted fascinate running various kernels/mods/roms more than holds up against those phones. But for those not interested in that, i completely understand the frustration

I don't understand the frustration of a person who gets a unit, has problems from day one, and doesn't take advantage of the 15 day return period. It starts over with the new phone too, so you can try out 3 or 4 before you settle.

And, if a person has serious hardware issues (GPS not locking, bad call quality), exchanging the unit in the first year is easy as a car drive or phone call.

i was just pointing out my opinion on the stock out of the box experience of those 3 phones :) and the fascinate in comparison has noticable lag/slowdown when running some apps/games and browsing and freezes/batt pulls are fairly common for many

the inc/dx while far from perfect stock, tend to do a better job performance/bug wise

but again...just my opinion based on my experiences...that being said id take the fascinate over the others based on its potential performance that it can come closer to reaching when rooted

I completely agree, I owned all three and this phone is the worst to me by far when comparing stock. Now it is a different story after rooting, but out of the box this was my least favorite. Good thing I don't care about out of the box, but I see why some do and don't like the phone.

If I am not mistaken you can take the phone back once right? I don't believe you can keep exchanging the phone every 14 days. I thought it was you could exchange the one time, but you were stuck the next time.
