Browsers

I'm using 3 right now on the latest ICS leak trying to figure out which one I like better. Chroma @ 47mb, Dolphin @ 7mb , and the stock Browser @1.43MB.
I'm pretty much happy with the stock browser because it's the smallest and built in, but I don't use my phone for web browsing much.
I like Dolphin really well, actually better than the stock browser and will probably end up keeping it. Right now I would have to call Dolphin my favorite. :)
As far as Chroma goes, it's ICS only I think and to big and bloated @ 47MB for what it does, but it still gets the job done.
In the end your browser choice comes down to your personal preference.

Yaa I'm still on gingerbread ibdont trust those leaks so I cant get chrome till ICS comes out

If you don't care for the stock browser in Gingerbread, Dolphin is defiantly the best in my book , Opera's probably worth checking out just to see if you like it too.

As an aside, I use Chromemarks on GB to sync my bookmarks everywhere. Works really well.

I'm running Dolphin 8.5.1 and having A LOT of crashing problems. A couple of the last updates did nothing to fix it.
I contacted Dolphin and and it was suggested I install 8.2.3 beta and get back to them.
Any one having the same problem and has anyone tried this beta version?

I haven't had any problems with Dolphin 8.5.1, I don't know that anyone here could offer any more help than Dolphin itself has offered, especially without a lot more details about how your phone is set up and the circumstances it crashes.
Are you letting your phone send in crash reports when it happens? As you have already been in contact with the makers of Dolphin, it seems that would be the best way to help the developer troubleshoot your problem.

How do I send crash reports?
I'd love to resolve this problem since other then the frequent crashes I really enjoy this browser
Btw I run a completely stock Bionic running 905.

I have had no problem with it either on an un-toot-ed 5.9.905 system.

Can you give us some more information about what these "crashes" are? What do you do that causes the problem? What is the problem that is caused?

What causes them I dont know, but here's what precedes them.
The browser is open and it might be 1, 2 or 3 tabs. The number makes no difference. I either exit the browser by hitting the power/screen off button or hit the home key.
Now the next time I open it either through hitting my home screen Dolphin button or its opened by using a link in another app like Twitter it opens for a split second and then crashes and closes wiping out. whatever tab or tabs that were left there and I have to reopen it and it immediately starts at the home speed dial page.

Oh and this doesn't happen always, maybe 75% of the time.
And I installed the beta browser they sent me...no difference

I cannot duplicate the problem on my Bionic.

Hitting the power button or Home key does not cause it to exit. It is simply not displayed. When you hit power again it is displayed. When you hit the Dolphin icon it simply switches to the already running Dolphin and displays it.

You can make it exit with ...
Menu | More | Exit
... or ...
Back | Back

If you exit and then call it a second time it will load from scratch.

I understand what you're saying and I confused you on my description. I do the exact same thing to exit the browser. Not ending it but as you stated "not displaying" the open page(s).
My problem is when I open it again that is when it'll crash. There is no way to guess when it'll occur. Its very random.
I hope that helps

I was suggesting a "work around" that could make the problem go away.

As John pointed out, you could try reloading the app but I assume you already had since you also tried some "beta".

What version of the system are you using?

If it is not 5.9.905 upgrade to 5.0.905.

If it is 5.9.905 you could try ...

- Try an uninstall/install.
- Try a soft reset (hold down volume up/volume down/power until a menu appears and then disappears.
- As a next to last resort try a Factory Data Reset that has some greater implications about recovering your data and settings if you are not root-ed. This would clean up all temporary data and guarantee that no other app is introducing the Dolphin problem. (The mayhem introduced may well be more than you are willing to invest in this issue ... all your data and settings get wiped.)

Uninstalling the app allows for fixing most idiosyncrasies. Also, when using the system to uninstall the app you can clear all cache associated with the app, without having to perform a factory reset

I am running 5.9.905 and I've done the unistall and soft reset a number of times with no luck.
The factory reset is something I avoid like the plague.
The problem is an annoyance but definitely manageable.

Speaking of data clearance, and the wiping out of temporary data is there an app like CCleaner for Android based phones? Maybe that would help without the complete reset.
