Root Bypassing Tethering Restrictions (How To)

I can't believe it. I never thought they would start doing this.
I just checked and yep, they give you unlimited hotspot now except they throttle you after you reach a certain point, which is 6Gb on the unlimited plan. So none of this stuff is really needed anymore unless you need to tether more than the allotted amount without being throttled.

No it told me for more it would be $5(the pop up for upsale) so it's not throttled. And how would I tether it for unlimited hotspot. I tried this method several times last night. I'm on stock metro PCS 4.4.4 rooted with Kingroot and twrp.

Are you trying to tether on PC or a tablet/media player? Also, what superuser app are you using?

Connect device to your PC via USB

In Google Chrome, Add the User Agent extension.

On your Zmax, add a new APN. Use your existing as a guide, but add the ""default, supl, mms, hipri, dun" string to the APN.

For example, I'm a Metro user, so I just created an APN called TMob which is a C&P of my Metro APN, but I added the "dun" line to the string and I use the TMob APN when tethering.

In the User Agent app in GC, populate the "Change" field with the following string: "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_9) AppleWebKit/537.71 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/7.0 Safari/537.71" and click "Change.

Under "Connect to PC" in your phone settings, set the radio button to "Charge Only" and tick the "Enable USB debugging" box.

Next, set to "Airplane Mode" then nav to "Settings" > "More" > Tethering & "Mobile Support"

Tick the checkboxes for both "USB Tethering" & "Mobile Hotspot"

Go back and disable "Airplane Mode" and you should be good to go.

You need to enable "Airplane Mode" in order for USB Tethering to remain enabled. Once it does, you can disable Airplane Mode.

Good Luck.

Note: I haven't tried this since ZMax pushed the last update, but it worked previously.

How do you have root without a su app?

Idk. Here some screen shots.

Ok so I've done this multiple times I can't get any of my devices to find it under networks. I've followed every direction to the letter. I even bought the WiFi tether hotspot from Google play. Now I'm out $2.80 for nothing. Not your guys fault just want to get this working.

What is the problem you are having and what devices are you using?
Also, what ROM are you using?

MetroPCS ZTE ZMax 4.4.4 stock rooted Rom.

I set it up EXACTLY LIKE YOU SAID. No device(laptop, smartphone,tablet,ps4) finds it when they search for my hotspot.

That's my problem

Okay well the first thing we need to do is get rid of kinguser completely and replace it with the newest supersu because I have seen many cases where kinguser does not work properly. There are a lot of root apps that will work fine with supersu but will malfunction with other superuser apps.
I will provide instructions.
[1] Download my Metropcs stock ROM.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347760032

[2] Download UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip
http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu

[3] Use titanium backup to backup all of your downloaded apps along with your SMS, call logs, WiFi and Bluetooth settings etc... DO NOT BACKUP KINGROOT, KINGUSER, OR CHINESE CHARACTER APP!

[4] Reboot to recovery and press wipe and then select data, cache, dalvik, and system. Do not wipe internal storage or SD card.

[5] Flash the metro stock ROM and supersu zip in that order, and then reboot system.

[6] Setup your Google account and reinstall titanium backup and restore all your user apps (except for WiFi Tether Router) & settings.
(Only restore the stuff that has white or yellow letters. Don't restore anything that has red or green letters. Kinguser and the apps that come with it shouldn't be backed up but if they are, DO NOT RESTORE THEM!)

[7] Reinstall WiFi Tether Router(don't restore it with titanium backup) and then set it up exactly like the OP says. Any settings in the app that are not mentioned, are ones that you DO NOT CHANGE from the default.

Do I have to back up all my data I would rather start fresh if I can. I'd just like to keep calls and sms

Okay I swear I just saw you saying about an hour ago that you couldn't root the stock ROM? Am I going crazy here or did you finally get root and then edit your post?

Lol yeah I got root and edited my post... do you know why it's happening.

The ps3 getting throttled speeds, but everything else gets 10+mbps.

This is most likely because WiFi tether router will hide the fact that you are tethering if you are tethering to another mobile device or a PC with a user agent switcher. But if you aren't tethering on a mobile device and you aren't spoofing your user agent to hide your tethering then you will get throttled. Does this make sense?

Yes that's what I thought. Thank you for your help.

So in theory could I use tether my phone to my computer. Then Ethernet tether my computer to my ps3. Yes or no?
