Help Call Rejection Hang ups!

I have just received my second Galaxy handset as replacement from O2 after returning the first with what appeared to be some sort of hardware fault that caused calls to be rejected before pickup quite often just at the moment of touching the phone! I was quite happy with O2 and the way they dealt with the situation and couldn't wait for the new unit but sadly it has arrived with the very same issues as the last one and O2 are again confident that its a hardware fault and now want me to choose some other phone! I have been following these threads since i got my first handset and although the phone has many issues it doesnt seem to be as common a fault here as my experience would suggest or are there others?

Guys i can see that the thread is being viewed without response just a yes or no would suffice!

this occasionally happens to me. The phone rings once, I pick it up, and it hangs up on the caller. With my current firmware it happens less than it used to, but it still happens.

same here mate,am on my third galaxy now. My second one had this isue, but this one is all good.
get another one its the best phone on the market at the moment!

Ok just off the phone to O2 and they are prepared to send out another Galaxy, third time lucky perhaps? Only this time they won't be sending it out next day and it may infact take seven days to arrive and they also now want to open email correspondence! Perhaps email is to my benefit if i should want to get out of the 2 year contract should they be unable to supply a working android! To make things worse the wife is awaiting delivery of a Noreve case which has cost her around $65 she thought it would make a nice birthday present!

I also had this problem with my handset bought from O2 in Germany via ebay. I can sit and watch my phone and it will hang up. I can even call someone and it hangs up in 6 seconds. It even refuses to swap bands, so when I enter a tunnel or the likes and have to go down to gsm/gprs, the call ends.

I'm not sure if this is my providers faults though, becuse they are also quite wonky (in Norway) but it seems to be a bit better in II5, because with the stock firmware, I couldn't make calls at all.

I wonder if this is a wide spread problem. I haven't encountered this yet. Your claims of holding the phone in a certain position causes this? Could you elaborate and maybe someone else might be able to replicate it.

When i say that i hold in a certain position i mean that once the phone hangs once by holding that position it will continue to reject calls as per video. I am right handed and holding the phone in the natural position is enough to do this so im guessing that the camera and lock buttons will be making the slightest of contact with the palm of my hand though unable to replicate the hangs pushing buttons alone only happens when handset is in hand. A bit strange i know but thats whats happening!

Thats a weird one. I thought mine was hanging up calls whenever I unplugged it from the charger once it started ringing. Now I suspect it may be this instead.

You should run adb logcat and check what button is getting pressed, or what its detecting to make it drop the call.

I had this problem too ... at first i thought i was pressing the wrong button or it didnt like being in locked mode and getting calls.

Not sure now as different firmware and have been near a landline all day long for long time so havent been using it for that.

could it have something to do with the antenna - cable on the galaxy? Since the antenna is located at the bottom of the phone, there's just a small white cable running along the inside of the hold and camera - keys and I at least keep getting false keyEvents from these (HOLD up/down, scancode=212) when calling and the call fails...

ive never seen this
im on an o2 uk handheld

wierd
could be a loose connection to the power key but then id expect it to randomly show the power off menu?

maybe phone vibration is causing the power button to activate?

ive tried to replicate this but i cant so there must be some kind of short or something loose
either that or your sim is borked
have you tried swapping the tocco and galaxy sims over to see if problem persists?

Hmm CNr might have a point. Bad shielding could easily cause this. We also know of people having interferance in their display while on GSM - thats caused by bad shielding for sure.

Yes swapping sims was one of the first things i tried!

I was beginning to think it had something to do with the temp of my hands and was going to explore further but i recieved email to say another phone is on its way and will be with me at some point today!

It just can't be me 3 phones all with this same problem and it's so very obvious that I am now doubting how sincere the tech at O2 was when he said this was the first time he'd heard of this issue, even if it were a bad batch they are sure to becoming aware theres a problem!

Spoke to Samsung support and was told that O2 may indeed have had a bad batch and it really sounds as if i have a hardware fault and i have been refered to the walk in Samsung support centre! So a trip to Edinburgh tomorrow i really shouldn't have all this hassle but i'm now intrigued to see what will happen!

But if what samsung says is true then that should be the end of the call problem. I'll keep my fingers cross for you. :)

God damn it ! I had this fault today :S And my mom was worried about me when she was calling. When she saw that my phone hangs up after a short time of ring, she got even more worried :S (she called me like 5-6 times when i was sleeping) Is this a fault that Samsung should consider or do i have to do something about it ? Like firmware issues... Btw, i use I7 firmware...

Oh dear looks like I'm gonna have to admit defeat! Samsungs walk in service centre wont deal with the Galaxy as the phone is too new to the market. Such ashame loved all the bells and bobbles on this phone but first and foremost the fundamental functions of the phone must be sound!

It's not hardware, it's a firmware issue. Do you have the I4 firmware?

Yes i am indeed on I4 though with the first handset H6 i visited I5 and reverted back to one of the official O2 H firmwares so as to get on official track using NPS! This 3rd unit plus the previous one both came with I4! If it were I4 problem surely more people would have came across the problem or beable to simulate to test it out! All handsets had exactly the same problem!
