On Froyo/Gingerbread battery life, I am almost certain one of the enhancements of Gingerbread was better memory management and thus better battery life. I don't remember reading anything that ever said that Gingerbread would result in less battery life, if anything else, it would be almost the same. Gingerbread wasn't a monumental leap forward like it was going from Eclair to Froyo. So bottom line, a Froyo custom kernel might give you better battery life than Gingerbread simply because your phone might really like it (since, as we all know, kernels are finicky) but I don't think Froyo is inherently better when it comes to battery life.
On the subject of SBC, I am using the same stock battery that I have used since getting my original Evo in October of 2010. I have recently started keeping detailed battery stats to compare kernels and roms (because I'm anal
) and after 40-50 minutes of screen time, I am at 60% on my battery without SBC with 2-3 hours of total awake time. Obviously this would vary if I'm listening to MP3's or streaming music over 3G, but you get the idea. Maybe someone with a newer battery could test this and see if there is any real degradation. I have used SBC a lot since owning my phone. These current numbers are for MikG running AnthraX.
