Can I upgrade my phone after 12 months?

I got the Droid X the day it came out... July 16, 2010. Am I going to be able to upgrade on July 17, 2011? I was able to do a 12 month upgrade with every other Verizon phone I have had, but I read that they recently changed the policy, and now they make you wait 20 months. Anyone know if I will be able to upgrade?

Good question. Why not call Verizon?

Log into My Verizon and your upgrade date will be there. :D

Mine says 3/16/12 and I purchased mine the same time as you.

Don't forget with a family plan you can use other people's upgrade.

Verizon's new every 2(years) has always really been new every 20 months.

It can typically be new every 18 months if you go into the store and ask really nicely for your upgrade early.

If you are a primary line on the account, depending on your price plan, they will allow you to upgrade after 12 months.

The stores are no longer able to change upgrade dates as they have been abusing that policy.

They have also stopped offering the New Every Two credit incentive.

Funny, I've found that unfortunately asking nicely gets you nowhere, but yelling and screaming does. I hate acting that way though, but I'm only playing the game by their rules.

You may be right, I haven't personally tried it recently but I hear it can still be done if given enough "incentive" (lots of yelling and demanding and threatening to change carriers)

What they will now have you do is call Customer Service as they are physically unable to change dates. Instead of yelling and screaming, if you call customer Service yourself and ask for the loyalty department... they are usually able to help you upgrade early depending on how far into your contract you are, how much you're paying monthly, if you are the primary line, etc.

So just be nice, and give loyalty a call if you already know you can't upgrade... it'll get you further than yelling at someone in store.. especially if you knew that you would be in a contract and unable to upgrade. Why yell at someone else and make their day even shittier than it already is?

you should be able to. We get one final 1 year upgrade at the 2 year price, then you get a new phone every 20 months

yup....i'm on the 20 month cycle lol. March 2012 for me. Which i'm fine with. Should be some good devices out then for a good price.

Like I said, I'm just playing by their rules. I hate being a dick, because I know they're just trying to do their jobs... but I can only go in and ask politely, and be politely rejected, while seeing someone scream their head off and get whatever they ask for, so many times.

And I'm not a girl, so the waterworks aren't gonna do it either (seen that one work a few times too... with simply amazing results. Need fifteen months shaved off that upgrade time? Seriously. Female + tears will do it... also good for getting out of speeding tickets, or so I'm told)

Different things work on different people. You might run into someone that responds to yelling and screaming with yelling and screaming, while that person is helpful if you are polite. I don't even think normal csrs have the power to change your date, there is already good advice on here regarding how to contact people who can bump it up.

When you started this thread were you talking about annual upgrade? That is where if you are the primary line on a family plan you can upgrade every year and they give you the 2 year price. I heard rumors about verizon getting rid of it or changing it but never followed up.

If your looking at getting the Droid X 2, here is an idea.

1)*very imporant* REMOVE SD CARD
2) Go to the bathroom
3) Sit on the Throne.
4) **splooosh** phone falls in toilet.
5) go to nearest vzw store.
6) walk out with DX2 for $89

Verizon is absolutely getting rid of the annual upgrade and NE2 credit as well.

Dangerous, because VZW stores aren't able to process insurance claims.. so it's up to Asurion.. with Asurion, you could be paying $89 for Droid X or Droid X2... depending on their inventory at that time. Are you willing to take that risk?

i know personally if my customers come in screaming and yelling they arent going to get any where. treat me like shit while im at work trying to make money so i can support my self, guess what im going to show you the door and kick you out of my store. Just because other people get away with it doesnt mean everyone should do it. People get away with murder why not try that next :P
