Can Incredible do 4G Service?

I did notice that there is a process for "4g settings" hidden. Could just be in 2.2 stock, but it is in there. I found the process when exploring tasker.

I smell something, and it ain't the neighbors Q'ing it up...

If the screen shots are legit ("Turn on 4G", really?), I'd imagine they are part of a stock setup, for lack of a better term. Also, 4G will require a different radio.

I wonder if the hardware is actually different; many people already presume it's as simple as swapping in a 4G radio but has anyone actually looked into it? Theoretically it's completely possible that all their later CDMA phones are 4g capable and just disabled; instead of buying two different radios just have all of them use the same radio(save money and reduce "tooling" costs?). AMD did something similar with many of the 3-core processor(IIRC some dual core too?); they were actually 4-core processors with a disabled core(mainly due to 1 bad core but plenty still had good cores).

Also, maybe this would mean those thinking of swapping in a 4G radio wouldn't have to worry about new programming?

The Incredible does not have the appropriate hardware to support 4G, nor would the FCC be very happy about HTC lying about the hardware specifications on the filings for the D-Inc.

taken straight from the article in question:

"Anyway, it’s interesting to say the least since we know the DI isn’t capable of running on 4G. Gesture Search can find a bunch of hidden gems like this. Now go play with it!"

don't even trip

One would wonder if maybe some of these "hidden gems" were written in for Evo or future phones in mind and hidden on Inc so they didnt have to write code twice.

I dont know, just a guess.

I posted about this a while ago when I found this while using tasker.
I highly doubt it has the hardware, but that would be a sweet present in the future if it did.

When I bought my phone the guy at Verizon told me it was ready for 4g when Verizon has it, would make sense for them not to advertise it since it's not available from them yet, but just throwing that out there.

The radio we now have since the update is 2.15.00.07.28 which is the same as the evo so wouldn't that make it now 4g capable??

someone flash their phone on the sprint network and find out.. jk jk

I have a feeling that just because the software says that 4g can be turned on doesnt mean the hardware is there for it..

Could be like our 802.11n Wifi. We don't get the full N support but we get like 10 more mb/s than g does. 64mb or at least i do.

We might get something faster than 3G but not as fast as 4G. 3.5G?

My GeForce 9600GT uses the same drivers as a Fermi GTX485. My Pontiac G6 runs off the same gasoline as a Corvette. ZOMG my G6 is as fast as a corvette!!!111

Seriously though, a radio driver can cover multiple generations of compatible hardware. The EVO uses WiMax for 4G. Even if the Incredible had support form WiMax, Verizon will be using LTE. So in no way, shape, or form will the current version of the Incredible support 4G.

What we're seeing here is an operating system that supports new technology, and some proper searching will let you find that support within the OS. Windows 7 has support for Bluetooth, but that doesn't guarantee that the computer you purchase will have actual Bluetooth.

Ahh, as I was reading through the previous posts I was planning out a post similar to yours, only to find you had beaten me to it:(

I was going to use the fact that Windows 7 allows me to search for wireless networks, but I don't have a wireless card in my desktop...
