Root Can you name Nandroid backups?

So I have made several Nandroid backups over the past several weeks and was wondering if it was possible to rename the nandroid backup in recovery?
It would be nice to rename the backup so I can remember which one is the one I am looking for. As of right now its just a list of dates in order from the oldest to the newest backup.
I can forsee this being in issue once I have 10-20+ or more backups with just dates listed. Trying to find the one I want to flash might be a tedious process.

How do you all remember which one is which??

When renaming backups, make sure the backup names are all one word. Such as MikFroyo_v4.6_4_11_11. Make sure you use underscore.

Also, you can take the backups off your sd card and put them on your computer for safe keeping. Save some space on the sd card.

Ultimately, backups are restored in recovery using a shell scripts. That being the case, you can rename a backup to anything that will be understood from the command line. That means you can use underscores, and dashes, but not something like slashes, backslashes, etc. You can lookup proper file naming rules for Linux, if you like. That being the case, the safest thing to do is to keep the existing name, and just append a short description of what a backup is. If you want to avoid renaming altogether, you can also just keep a spreadsheet of backup names along with descriptions of what they are.

the short answer is yes lol but as akazabam stated, just follow normal file naming rules. no backslashes etc.... i name mine with the name of the rom and the date(and if im doing several in one day, i put the approx time or another note also)

do you rename the nandroid backup from a file manager like Root explorer or Astro? or do you rename it in clockwork mod?

i just go into my adaeo file manager, long press the file you wanna rename, and TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!! oh wait, thats not right.... thats what The Brain does.... i just rename the file after long press lol
