Welcome to Android Forums!

This is a strange one... I've never encountered a "stuck" widget myself. I'll move this over to the HTC Desire forum where hopefully someone can offer assistance.

Enjoy your stay.

Have you tried uninstalling then reinstalling the widget?

You cant uninstall the google search widget. Are you using a home replacement?

Try turning your phone off and on again. Maybe turn off, remove battery, replace, then turn on too.
