Root Can't connect to Wifi!

Hello again!

Just flashed to the newest version of BACKside a few days ago and I think it is great. New options are nice!

I am having a bit of an issue with battery performance now. With the old build (0110) I was getting REALLY good battery life. I could go almost two days without a charge. This build I can barely go 15 hrs. I have not done anything else to change my phone but this new flash.

The bigger problem is that now my wifi is not working. I don't use it much, but I noticed yesterday that when I turn it on... It just says "connecting" and never goes any farther.

Any suggestions, fixes, etc?

Battery life can take a couple days before "settling in" after a flash. :)

As for the wifi, have you tried rebooting your router and setup the connection as new from scratch on your phone yet?

Hmm, a few days to settle in you say... Alright

I can't get my phone to even start a connection with ANY network.

You might need to reflash it, this time wipe and format everything 3 times. Not all "V"'s are perfect. If it doesn't help let jerryScript know so he can figure out how to improve on the situation.

Also, after wiping/(format as last resort), flashing, and rebooting once, go back into recovery and run fix permissions. It helps with all sorts of stuff, force closes, system service malfunctions, seemingly corrupted apps. After fixing permissions, it always seems like I have a new phone. ;)

Hmm, I'll go ahead and try this method first. I really don't want to format everything and start from scratch...

I'll be doing this in a little while, I'll be back on to let everyone know if it works...

EDIT: Problem did not change. I reflashed 0131 and then fixed permissions.

Still stuck "connecting"

List of WIFI networks does not update and they are all in range, contrary to the picture.

I restored back to the 0109 build earlier today, it did not fix the wifi problem...

So any other suggestions? Thanks for the help so far

The old battery trick, perhaps? Pull the battery, hold down the power button for thirty seconds, put the battery back in, and try again.

Didn't think of the battery trick, but it didn't work when I tried it.

Thanks brotherswing, any other ideas?

If you get the same results with an older backup, I think we can rule out software. You may have a hardware issue. I'll leave the troubleshooting of that to some of the other users here with more experience at it. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

Go to a known good WiFi source other than your house. Mac Donald's etc. Make sure their WiFi is working by seeing if someone else is connected.
If you can connect, it is the router settings that need to be tweaked. Try setting up a guest network with just WPA-PSK[AES] (this is the strongest level)
If you can't connect then it is the phone. Will go from there.

I tried to do it at work, which is Wifi I use all the time. This also does not work.

So....something is wrong with my phone. What could it be?

Thanks for the help so far Andy

Might be a problem with your wifi settings. You might have to wipe and flash again. I had a similar problem a month ago.

Not to be contrary, but the OP had the same problem with an older backup loaded.

Yes, I did back up to an earlier build in which I definitely had used WiFi

I could go back to one more build but I won't bother if the problem can't be fixed that way..

Yes, I did everything involving WiFi. Thanks for the suggestion though Brotherswing.

I FIXED the problem a few minutes ago by restoring all the way back to my first restore point before flashing a ROM(Made me remember how much I hate Froyo 2.2) I also cleared cache and dalvik before restoring. WiFi started working again so I went ahead and went back into reboot recovery, wiped cache and dalvik three times each and flashed to the oldest BACKside recovery point I had (build0103) WiFi is working like normal again.

Thanks for all the suggestions to help me guys, you are the best!

Glad you got it working again.

For the benefit of others reading this thread:
Just to be sure we were on the same page, what we were suggesting you do is a full wipe/reflash, which means--
-Reboot into recovery
-Wipe cache
-Under advanced wipe dalvik cache
-Under mounts format boot, data, system, and cache
-Flash the ROM
-Flash gapps
-Reboot

If you don't wipe data, then bad settings can remain, which is why a full wipe/format is always recommended when you have issues such as this. ;)

Just wanted to say thank you very much for your steps you posted. I am now able to connect to my secure wifi network with no issues. I did lose apps I had installed earlier but I'll just install Titanium Backup, and download them back. Have a great weekend all.
