Root Can't send or receive picture mail... second phone.

I can't send or receive picture mail (mms). I had a rooted phone before and I got it replaced by VM because I couldn't send or receive picture mail. I get the new phone, root it, and the picture mail still doesn't work. Help please!!!

You have 3G enabled when trying to do this?

If all you did was root your phone, it will not cause that issue. Either you have done more than that and caused an issue, or you don't have 3G on, or it is a virgin mobile issue and not your specific device.

You have to make sure the picture isn't to big, and is the format of the picture is compatible. Try reformatting phone(factory reset).

Also, if you have WiFi on, it will not send/receive

Thank you.. I have said that for some time now and most of the forums here have said that isn't true. But when I can't send an MMS, I turn WiFi off temporarily and it sends every time. Glad to know I'm not crazy.

Really? When I recieve an MMS and i'm on WiFi it'll show that it's actually using both 3G and the WiFi. :s

Must be on certain phones? When I first got my phone I tried and tried to send one while on WiFi and it wouldn't. Occasionally rebooting the phone or toggling airplane mode would allow one to push through while on WiFi.
I use Go SMS Pro with custom APN settings now and haven't had the issue.

Some have told me this issue doesn't exist on the stock messaging app, but I have yet to figure out what was halting incoming/outgoing MMS and why toggling off WiFi allowed them to push through. Who knows LOL :D

REALLY?

I have been using CM7 since Beta 1, and this this is AWESOME!!

well not everything works. right?
i want my phone to do everything that its supposed to, including sending picture mail, how can i fix sending picture mail?

PLEASE HELP

only thing not working is hdmi. but with MIUI and CM7 you can do more than you can with stock. so loosing hdmi isn't a big deal.

you still have not answered if you have wifi turned off when you try.
no one can help if you don't answer questions.

The only major thing that isn't currently working is the HDMI, and that is being worked on. Most of the issues people report are user errors of some sort or issues with 3rd party apps (which isn't the ROM's fault).

MMS has worked on CM7 (& MIUI) for a while now. It also has always worked on stock. If it isn't working for you, then it is because of something you have done. Just rooting your phone will not cause this issue, unless you messed with something weird while rooting (which would be user error, not the actual rooting of the phone).

When you got the replacement phone, did the MMS work then? What have you done (including possibly a 3rd party messaging app?) since then to your phone?

What are you doing when sending the MMS? You HAVE to have 3G enabled to be able to send/receive MMS. Some people have reported that having wifi on will make it not send (even if 3G is on as well).

People here are trying to help you, but you have to give us some more info or than saying you rooted the phone and MMS doesn't work, and asking us to solve it. Multiple suggestions have been made, and if you still are not sure what seems the best course, then give more info so we can help you better.

Looks like I took too long to type my response! LOL.

wifi is off...
3g is on...
all i did was root. i use Handcent messenger... like that would really be the issue..? -.-

i didn't try sending/receiving picture mail before i rooted it, because i want my phone rooted, period.

im a noob to this, so all i did was root it. didn't mess with anything, just did titanium backup (with user apps, not system)

Ive done all the "troubleshooting" with pulling the battery and all that BS, i used to work for sprint, we used to troubleshoot this crud all the time. VM can't seem to help. Their pathetic "refreshes" are just to get me off the phone, and them to the next call.

I see no reason why my MMS isn't working...

Enough info?

thanks

Have you tried uninstalling and trying the stock messenger app? I know Go SMS was causing issues for some people. Handcent could be the issue (but it is quite possibly something else). It may be some settings you have enabled in it? I can't really help you for sure there because I do not use that app, but it could be some part of the app settings. Possibly APN settings in that app?

Did you use gingerbreak to root? Some other method? If you used gingerbreak, you can use that to unroot and check and see. If you did another method, you can unoot according to their directions to check. I am VERY skeptical that rooting caused this.

Are you using some sort of task killer? They can cause issues. I haven't heard of them causing this, but you never know.

You could uninstall your 3rd party apps, and reinstall them (using titanium) and check between each one to make sure it isn't causing your problem.

You would be suprised how often something is "broken" and it is some other app (half the time it isn't an app directly related to the problem!) that people installed causing the issue.

I would try a factory reset.

Then test and see if it works.

If it does restore your apps one by one testing mms after each app installation.

Then if you want to root.. do it after your phone is restored to your liking.

The issue is handcent. I opened the stock app and they send from the stock app. Idk what strings could be changed in order for it to work. Anyone with handcent have any suggestions?

Thanks again guys

I switched back to the stock messenger for similar reasons. I am not sure what the issue is with the 3rd party messenger apps, but I know VM handles MMS in a wierd way. That is probably the problem.

probably nothing but...

one thing ive noticed is if you try to send an MMS to a cellphone number/contact without the area code (coz u have the same area code) and just the 7-digit number, "Sending..." msg gets stuck!?! but when i added the area code, it sends fine.

using MIUI here btw.
