Root Can't unroot my evo 4g. Please help!

Hi everyone!
I'm new here and this is my first post. I've read other posts on the subject, hoping to find some guidance, but all to no avail :(
So here is my problem. A few days ago I stopped receiving text messages on my EVO 4G. Called Sprint, they tried sending me some "refreshments", but still nothing. When I told them I was using a custom ROM (MIUI), they said they won't look at it since by messing with factory software I voided my warranty.
So now I'm trying to restore my phone to its out-of-the-box state. I'm not very knowledgeable about all this technical stuff so please bear with me! ;-)

Here are my phone's specs (loaded on hboot startup):

-Revolutionary-
SUPERSONIC EVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.16.1002
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_16ab
RADIO-2.15.00.0808
Mar 8 2011,17:02:15

I have downloaded the latest factory ROM, along with the radio and hboot update, but my phone failed to flash either of them, except for the radio, which seemed successful, except for when rebooting it still read the same old version.

Whenever I put PC36IMG.zip at the root of my sdcard, hboot scans it and says "no image" or "no image or wrong image".

Also, when I try to flash the S-ON tool (AFTER updating the radio!) it returns the following message:

Verifying system type...
E:unsupported radio version
E:Update failed. Check /sdcard/soff.log.
E:Error in /sdcard/unrevoked-forever-son.zip
(Status 42)
Installation aborted.

Also, I don't have access to a PC and when I plug my USB cable to my Mac, it fails to prompt me for the type of connection. So I used bluetooth to transfer downloaded .ZIPs to my phone.

Please help!

BIG THANKS IN ADVANCE!

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!
you need to use this guide:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html

go to the unrooting section and follow instructions there.

I appreciate your response, I went to read the guide, but I got stuck at step 1. Like I said, for some reason my phone won't flash the new hboot :(

ok just to make sure, you are using a mac, correct? make sure that the file is not extracted. i believe macs automatically unzips files.

also make sure that you are naming the file correctly. it should be only PC36IMG.zip. do not add an extra .zip as it would then be named PC36IMG.zip.zip which will not work.

and are you putting the file on the root of the sd card? that means not in any folder.

and lastly what size card are you using?

Hey!

Thanks for your response, and yes, I made sure the files don't have double extensions; haven't been automatically extracted; and placed on the root of the sdcard, which is by the way 2 Gb...

BINGO!!!!
2g cards do not work for the evo very well for some reason. do you have another card like the 8g card that came with the evo?

The Evo has issue with Cards that are less than 8gig try using a 8gig or bigger card and see if that resolves your issue.

Thanks guys! I had had a 8GB one, but I broke it right in the middle of my trouble, haha, now I guess I'm gonna go buy another one tomorrow. Sure hope it helps (something must, right?!) - I'm so done smoking my cigarettes every time I fail LOL! :)

P.S. and drinking my beer LMAO!!!

P.P.S. Thanks again for your feedback! I really appreciate it!

you guys are really awesome and helpful here, that's why i will never get tired to click the LIKE button! :)
i don't know the ultimate outcome of my ordeal yet, but, like i said already, i do appreciate you trying to help!

no worries,

please have another beer on me

and let us know how it goes.

I have the exact same problem he is having with his phone im trying to unroot my phone because my 4g is not working and I want to take it into the sprint store. When I got my phone it came stock with 4.67 so I had to root it in a different way... my specs on the bootloader screen are:

---unlocked---
supersonic evt3 SHIP s-on
hboot - 2.18.0001
radio-2.15.00.12.19

I skipped the step on the UNROOTING guide for getting back s-on because I already had it so I continued on to moving the PC36IMG file to the root of my SD card which contained the stock rom/recovery. i powered off my phone hboot scans it and says "no image" or "no image or wrong image".

After reading this thread i noticed I had a 4gb SD card in so i switched it out with my 8GB SD card and tried it all over, and have the same results :/
please helppppppppppp!
thanks

ok you will need to use this guide:

skip down to the 2nd post for instructions on how to unroot it.

so I was doing the unrooting guide with the HBOOT 2.18 and I got stuck at the very first part where you enter "adb shell" into cmd it said:
adb server is out of date. killing...
adb server didn't ACK
*failed to start daemon*
error:

im not sure what to do....please help it will be greatly appreciated

USB debugging was turned on when I tried, and it didn't say anything after the error

what about it being set to charge only (that is what i meant in my previous post)?

do you have the android folder setup? do you have the three files in it? do you have htc sync installed?

Yes I did have it set to charge only and I do have the android folder setup with ADB, fastboot, and adbwinapi.dll and yes I have htc sync installed from a couple months back.

I just tried doing it again, when I typed 'adb shell' this time around i got

*daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037*
*darmon started successfully*
error: device not found

ok so when you connect your phone to the computer via usb cable, does your computer see the phone? it looks like there is a communication error between the phone and computer. do you have another cable you can try?

edit:you can try the latest htc sync. htc_sync_3.0.5617_us.exe

sweeet the new update worked thanks bud

EDIT: right after I typed adb shell, it gave me the # right after but it didnt show
*daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037*
*darmon started successfully*
$su
su

before i went to type in the next code?

mine showed

C:\Users\Owner\Desktop\android>adb shell
# cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image
cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image
/sdcard/flash_image: No such file or directory
# chmod 755 /data/flash_image
chmod 755 /data/flash_image
# /data/flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img
/data/flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img
#

Im pretty sure my problem is with the flash_image: no such file or directory
im not sure why its saying that because it IS on the root of the sd card
and i tried putting the stock rom and recovery on it but it didnt work either at the HBOOT.

ok you need to slow down. the output must match the guide or the stock and rom and recovery will not work. you should never skip steps especially if something is not right that is a great way to brick your phone (luckily none of this will do it. but, it should be pointed out to all that you should follow the guide step by step and if something is not right please post it here. do not proceed until everything is how it is supposed to be.)

ok so is the flash image file extracted? what size card are you using?
