Accessories Car Dock Discussion Thread

Just out of curiosity, if you're driving, then why would you need your key to be docked/held down? How exactly does that work?? LOL

It's a smart key. I do not insert a key to turn vehicle on. I put the FIX there cause when I would get into car I would throw in the little cubby and it was a pain to have to reach in there when car was in "park". I could just leave in pocket but I hate having stuff in pockets.

I essentially do not ever have to remove the key from my pocket. There is a tiny button above exterior handle that I hit once when entering car that will unlock driver door, hit twice will unlock all, hit once and hold and it will roll down windows and sunroof. When leaving, the car will automatically lock when I get about 3 ft away.

Husband and I each got the M2 for our Incredibles. Within a week, the disc fell off of both our phones and, in both cases, it was while the phones were in the docks so the phones just fell off. I put the second disc on mine that came with it, and it appears to still be holding on strong for now. Discs are attached to the Verizon silicone case.

A drop of super glue should fix the issue. I couldn't get it to stick to anything and stay on so I ended up buying a cheap plastic hard case off of ebay and super gluing the disc to the back of it. It doesn't budge now. :DHere it is in my Jeep (I also have this mount in my car):

hey, registered here just so i could ask this question. i had the official car dock but now i have the 2150 extended battery so it won't work anymore. can anyone recommend the best solution that would hold my phone with the extended battery preferably without obscuring the camera up on the window so i could also take pics/record stuff? thanks

Ordered mine from the tetrax site. Can anyone tell me if it comes UPS, Fedex or regular post mail?? Also, how long did it take for you guys to get yours?

Can anyone help me, that has ordered directly throughTetrax. I ordered from them on 7/2 and since, my payment has been deducted from my acct and the purchase is complete on their site. But I haven't received any shipping info from them, nor the product. Do they use USPS, FedEx or UPS? how long do they usually take?

Ordered mine May 24th. shipped the 25th and was received the 31st (NW Indiana) and was shipped USPS.

However the reality is you ordered on a Friday before a Holiday (not sure of time) and Monday technically was a "holiday" so give a little (I mean little) slack. I emailed them on the 25th and asked when it would ship and they replied the same day. The was no shipping information as it came USPS with no tracking.

I'd give them at least another 3-5 days to receive.

How do you get the INC to connect to a bluetooth device automatically? After pairing, if I turn off blutooth and turn it back on I have to go to settings and tell it to connect and then scan and then it will connect. It doesn't do it right away.

Anyone know of a cheap mount like the one below? This one is for my GPS unit and I love the way it sits just a few inches from the windshield and I can put it up at eye level. The windshield mounts I've seen on a couple of web sites seen to have really, really long necks. I don't want it sitting out more from the windshield than my rearview mirror does really. Anyway, this is the dock I've got for my GPS

Ok I just received my XWAY and I am SIKED to use it!! Running to Verizon to buy a gel case then gonna get started on the set up. So after reading this thread numerous times to make sure I don't mess things up, here's what I have to focus on:

1) I should use either the "medium" sized magnet OR the "bigger" one that is WITHOUT the thicker adhesive..

2) Put magnet on slightly above center, which should allow for portrait and landscape mode usage, with no problems.

3) Eventhough the case will be new, still give it a quick alcohol wipe down and let it dry for a bit.

4) Once on, remove from mount either by moving right or left, don't pull straight out.

Did I cover everything??

Thanks so much for all of the input guys...You ROCK!!!!! I am like a kid at Christmas right now :-)

1. Use the one that is bigger (without the gel spacer).
2. Yes, also when on table etc, it will angle towards you.
3. Yes, also put a clamp on it for about an hour. See a post in this thread in what I used.
4. Absolutely. I just did a video review of this and a few cases. Everyone complaining about the disk not sticking, may be pulling straight off, slide it and it will not put direct pressure to the disk.

I will post review tonight or tomorrow.

GOBLUE!

I'm curious how well people can use their phone as a GPS unit when it's mounted on the vent like that. It would seem to me that you'd have to take your eyes way off the road to see it more so than if it was mounted on the dash or the windshield. My fear would be that it would block the air flow and hurt the efficiency of the air conditioner as well. Are any of these things true, or am I over analyzing it?

You should check out the Traveler Kit versions; they are very similar in build design to your GPS one. I'm personally looking at the ROK version as I want as little vibration as possible. I recently picked up a Scosche kit at Wal Mart, but in my 370Z the vibration is constant and ridicuously insane. I hung my Magellan up and noticed it has very little vibration; which it too is similar in design to the one in your pic.

Ok so I got it, installed it and LOVE it...BUT have a few, I'm sure minor issues.. I have a Honda Accord, just to start.

First, while putting on my new silicone case, it managed to INSTANTLY peel up the corners on my $25 screen protector!!!!! The protector was flawless since day 1, now ruined :-(

Second, on my car, there is a nice little slant to the vents. The ideal place would be on the left of the driving wheel, which would also give me privacy when ppl are in the car with me...Problem there is, the power cord would be to inconvenient, stretching it across the wheel. So I put it on the right sided vent, closest to the wheel. Now there are 5 slots, but it can't go on the top slot bc it's not wide enough. So I had to put it on the 2nd slot...Holds pretty well but it sits right on top of the temperature level for the ac/heat, when NOT in horizontal position. Being that the main screens do not rotate, i see myself using it mostly in this orientation, which is a teeny bit inconvenient if i need to mess with the temperature.

Thirdly, when applying the magnet, i was trying to put it slightly above mid-point but got too close while measuring and it stuck!!! it landed a tad bit higher than I would've liked, so when the phone is in landscape, it tends to rotate verrrrrrrrrrrrry slowly, depending on the driving conditions, bc the weight is off centered. :-(

Overall, I like it a LOT and LOVE the cleanliness of it!!! If it wouldn't have ruined my protector, I wouldn't be THAT upset, but that has me a bit annoyed...

To be clear, you didn't have a problem with your screen protector because of your mount, but because of the installation of your case, correct? Can't really fault the mount for that.

Oh yeah...NO WAY, the mount didn't do it at all! :) I was just saying that while preparing my phone to use the mount, I had to put on a silicone case and the CASE messed up the protector. Sorry if I wrote it wrong. :D

I'm really sold on the magnet-based attachment of the Xway but I'm not sure vent mounting will work for two reasons: 1) as A.Nonymous mentions, it'll take my eyes away from the road, and 2) similar to izzy35, the vents on my civic and odyssey just don't provide a good place to mount this.

That being said, has anyone considered a custom mount using the FIX? What I was hoping to do was to get some sort of material for a plate about the footprint of the Incredible and bore a recessed hole in the center to place the FIX magnet. The idea would be to countersink it nearly flush so that the entire plate supports the phone laterally while held by the FIX magnet. Then the idea would be to find a way to mount the plate to your favorite dash/window/whatever mount sans the generic holder. I'm a bit surprised tetrax doesn't consider making a few variations of mounts since they'd be universal. I hate the universal mounts with the huge side bumpers that hold your phone in place. Ideally a custom mount would be nice, like the Verizon one, that the phone snaps into, but once you put a case on the phone, that is no longer an option. If I can find a reasonable way to attach a custom backing plate to an off-the-shelf window mount, I may pursue this project.

Just wondering... has anyone found a good solution for mounting their Incredible on a Honda Civic (current generation) console? Any ideas would be most appreciated!

I have an 08 Civic, and i'm planning on just getting this

not sure how something will work on the windshield since its so dang steep (as you know) so i'd like a backup that can work on the airvents. nice to have options :)

Nice. I own an '08 Civic too, and it so happens that I'm also leaning towards an Arkon mount. But instead of a windshield mount, I'm pondering a dashboard "bean bag" type mount, like the SM412 model listed on Arkon's site:

www.arkon.com/Smartphone_Holder.php

I'm hoping it'll fit somewhere on that ledge between the Civic's steering wheel and speed gauge area. Not sure if it'll work though.
