Root [CDMA] Complete Newbie's Guide to rooting and flashing Evo 3D ROMs/Kernels using fastboot

so i'm seeing that the guide is having the same problem that the guide i used for my 4g is having is there a fix for this in the works? my wife is jealous of my rooted phone and wants me to root hers now. lol

It's a bug with the forums. I've disabled the hide tags until it is fixed. I was hoping it would be fixed faster, but unfortunately, it has not.

The site developer got the hide tags working just a little bit ago, so I'll be re-enabling my hide tags. All should be good. Sorry for any inconvenience :(

this htc dev just will not keep me logged in. its junk. must b my isp comcast idk. ive tried everything to get around it. it will let me log in on my phove via mobile net. so i did managed to get my unlock bin sent to me. but it just dont work. im on hbot 1.58. any help would b greatly appreciated

I read through the process and I was wondering if there is a way to gain root without wiping what's on the phone. I want to use Wifi tether, so I need root, but I don't want to have to reinstall all my apps, lose data, etc. I'm totally fine with the stock rom, just need root permissions. Is there a way to do this?

You can temp root, then back up with Titanium Backup from the market to save your app data.

...Unfortunately, I can't confirm anything as I've sold my Evo 3D.

Ever feel like your phone was a sinking ship??? :( (Not calling anyone a rat, mind you :D) I'm beginning to understand the extreme hidden value in a Nexus device. Thanks for all the great guides, Jer!

Could I just use that temp root to wifi tether? I only really need it for one day, after that I can worry about flashing a custom rom or whatever. I just really need wifi for an event next Sunday.

Edit: Actually nevermind on that...just read about the temp root...seems like it almost makes the phone unusable!

Ok just tried to root someone's phone and they have hboot 1.58 and the unlock.bin wouldn't take on the phone but the computer said it worked. I unlocked my phone running hboot 1.57 without any problems. Any advice?
Also this phone was reprogrammed for boost mobile prior to it being brought to me.

Hi all, I am new here and a bit overwhelmed!

I have an EVO 3d and just installed the new ICS update that Sprint put out. I just heard about rooting. I am not familiar with a lot of the acronyms being used.

My question is: Are the instructions in the beginning of this post still what I should be using to root my phone?

I wouldn't say it's a sinking ship. I just managed to mostly destroy my device by constantly tweaking it. I sold it back to Sprint via their buyback program (as I didn't feel right selling it to someone else knowing it wasn't 100%) and got the Galaxy S3.

Because it was flashed to Boost, it's hard to say what you can do for it. I've helped people in the past by getting them to flash the RUU, but I've been unable to find the new RUU. The best I can do is to say to flash the Sprint firmware in this post: OTA_Shooter_ICS_35_S_Sprint_WWE_2.89.651.2-2.17.651.5 - xda-developers

Then, try to unlock again. You may also have to re flash it to boost after doing that.

The HTC Dev method should still be valid. I just haven't gotten a lot of feedback on it.

It should still work, but there is still not much info out there to properly confirm it, best thing to do is try it it, and worst case scenario it won't work, but it should if you follow the process. ;)

Is there a way to root if on virgin mobile or is it the same? It would be very helpful if i could get this phone rooted but i cant seem to find a virgin mobile specific guide.

getting a htc evo v (a re-branded htc evo 3d) from virgin mobile in a few days and I wanna know if the steps for rooting and flashing will work the same with the evo v... if not... point me to a page for the evo v as i couldnt find one here or on xda-developers

I'm contemplating downgrading my HBoot, but when I keep reading part about temp bricking that part gets me very nervous, what are chances that a phone could be Perma bricked attempting to downgrade?
