Root [CDMA] Perm rooting the Evo 3D with S-OFF

Just a quick addition, I just did a factory reset for the record. When I tried to flash the su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip, it threw an error. When I restarted the phone, it seems to have root, but the wifi was borked. Following earlymon's advice, http://androidforums.com/evo-3d-all...t-android-tether-doesnt-work.html#post3029214, the wifi was now works.

If everyone thinks it will not ruin anything, I will try to get reflash the phone with with the super user zip to see what the error was.

Besides that everything seems to be working now.

Please also note my post on the first page for the right checksum on that su-zip -- it seems two got into the wild but one was messed up.

Also, probably a decent idea to go into Application management and uninstall that Superuser, then delete old zip from SD card before reflashing it.

That couldn't hurt, imo.

I tried the kernel with virus rom and it would freeze and reboot over 1.8 so will be flashing another rom in the near future to test it out

I've seen a lot of the Error 16 issues, but just recently I've read a couple of people who are saying that they are unable to do anything when roaming (no data or calls). Anyone able to confirm or deny if they've had any problems like this (perhaps one of you with Roam Control)?

So, I seem to be doing something wrong, but for the life of me I'm not getting what. I installed CWM, and am down to trying to Superuser flashed. I downloaded the file from the revolutionary site, have it on the SD card, and select "install zip from sdcard". From there, I choose "choose zip from sdcard" I choose "su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip", tell it to install, it starts, and says the following.

Creating SYSTEM:xbin/su symbolic link...
E:Error in /sdcard/su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip (Status 0)
Installation aborted.
Any guidance or ideas would be appreciated, I feel like I'm just missing something simple, but...yeah, obviously not seeing it.

I hit the exact same error. I just tried again, and the 2nd time, it flashed with no errors.

I'm running into a little problem.

I've read all the information on the forums and I still can't get this to work.

I first temp rooted my phone, backing everything up with titanium backup.
I then began too perm-root it. The first time everything went well up until the clockwork part. It wasn't letting me boot it up, so after 2 hours I figured I'd start from scratch.

I did a factory reset and made sure to turn all my updates off, dev mode turned on, and I then began the process again. This time I keep getting an error when i run revolutionary. It tells me that "my device is not supported at this time."

Any advice?

Revolutionary is not working anymore for you because it already gave you S-OFF. Your next step will be to download a custom recovery program and flash it manually. I created a thread (stickied in this subforum) with detailed instructions on how to do this. Here it is for quick reference:

Glad it wasn't just me. I tried multiple times, after booting back to recovery a couple of times too, and for whatever reason, just wouldn't work until I used that "unsigned" superuser that I linked to.

Also a big thanks for the info on manually flashing recovery. I had issues getting the update.zip method working, but fastboot worked for me. Took a few shortcuts with it from another post (edit: this one) in that thread, and it worked without issue.

sweet. yeah, fastboot and adb both require those two .DLL files, but as long as they are in the same folder, adb and fastboot are very portable.

Compared to a year ago, people have seemed to move away from anything adb- or fastboot-related. Most solutions have abstracted away the need for the user to use either tool. I just think it's good to have some working knowledge of these tools. They'll most likely come in handy the day you soft-brick your phone.

If you set up to have google back up your settings, your apps will download automatically. You will have to restore automatic updating for each tho.

Hmm...this is interesting. I remember this having to wait for all my apps to download after I rooted my Hero but not for my E3D. Everything was just there, even my widgets & usually I have to redo the widgets. I literally rooted, rebooted & everything was there. Flashed a rom, everything was still there. Only apps I downloaded were apps for root. Did anybody else have this experience? I don't think this is the norm. Definitely not complaining though.

That's if you wipe things or factory data reset as I did. ;)

I may have had the same issue and I think I resolved it - see here.

Okay trying to ROOT my replacement device and when I run Revolutionary ( unzipped the file in a Temp folder ) it opens a DOS window and immediately closes  Why won't it run ?

Help...

* EDIT *

Okay got the app to work. But, now it keeps giving me ' invalid BETA Key ' and then aborts!!

I have copy/pasted and manually typed in both the Serial Number and Key into and from the website to DOS..

Now what ? I'm lost..

* EDIT 2 * -= Issue Resolved =-

Two things :

1) Cannot use Revolutionary version 0.3pre7 anymore now that 0.4 is out, hence the INVALID BETA KEY!

2) Make sure HTC Sync is un-installed !!

I gotz ROOT now !!!
