Really? I mean it doesn't bother me at all, but I'm in a minority. All my colleagues expect a person turning up for a software dev interview to be suited. I don't know why, because the whole team here is clad in jeans and t-shirts.

I think the only people who wear suits any more are salesmen lawyers or politicians.

I have one suit, but it's a good 25 years old. But as Luna says, it's only worn for weddings and funerals, so it's not going to wear out any time soon.

We tend to regard people who turn up to interviews in a suit as showing their inexperience .

I'm an academic physicist. If you turn up for an interview wearing a suit you'll be the only person in the interview room wearing one.

I've senior colleagues who I've never seen wear a tie in almost 30 years (and I'm not talking about the women ), and I think most of my colleagues have never seen me wear one.

For academic scientists, the normal standard of dress is such that putting on a shirt and proper trousers already counts as dressing up for the occasion.

Suit, no sir. Many years ago I and my good buddies had the unpleasant task to carry one of our own to his resting place. Three of us showed up wearing the exact same cheap suit. We looked like a circus. We really laughed our butts off when we discovered that the parents of the deceased also ran to Wallyworld that week.

Standard off the rack suit sizes are by chest circumference. For example a "40 regular" would assume your chest at it's widest was 40" around. The waist for trousers would be 5" ~ 6" less so the pants would be 34" ~ 35" with an un-hemmed cuff. It's generally for men between 5' - 8" and 6" - 0". The sleeve length of the jacket would most likely be the determining factor since those are much harder to tailor.

I'm 6' - 1' so unless you've got gorilla arms, my old suits would be a bit long on you.
