i know this is nothing new but i have just installed chomp sms and i think it is brilliant.u can see your contacts as a picture in messages and got a nifty conversation list so i use it as my sms all the time now 5*
 
I agree, I think it's really good, however in my conversation list I only get a blank image instead of my contacts' picture! All my contacts have their facebook pictures normally so I can't understand why this is happening...any ideas?

Ha it's OK I just went into the market and got the latest update and it now is showing my contacts' pictures!
 
Be aware of chomp sms, it didn't receive some of the txts being sent to me. Don't know if you've tried handcent sms, but try it too, i rate it better than chomp.
 
okay thanks for the post.apart from not recieving sms what are the benefits of having handcent over chomp thanks
 
Just a quick Hint if you plan on using an alternative sms app {Chomp sms , Handcent etc} is to disable notifications on the Default one:



If you go to the Default sms app -> Press Menu -> Settings -> You can disable Notifications and Vibrate by Un-ticking the Boxes hence you will not have that Icon appear by the Default sms app :)

**your default sms app is the one that came with the hero as standard click that. If vibrate is already ticked , Please Un-tick Vibrate first then Notifications. {Thanks to Oxomcfc the OP for this tip} ;)
 
ChompSMS is definitely faster and more polished than Handcent imo
Never had an issue of not receiving texts.
 
i actually got the chomp sms [[i really love it, btw]] but it only seems to give me my texts when i have my phone screen on..does anyone else have this problem..? cause i want to use this app but im iffy about not getting my text. please help. thanks!
 
There might be some problem with ur phone, lekky. I used Chomp since the start and it's really great, no problem at all, every messages were received as I know so far. :D
By the way, Chomp is also the winner of the android network award for Best Communication app, u know that?;)
 
I've just installed chomp sms and i'm really liking it, just one quick question. Are there delivery reports? I've looked all through the options and can't find it anywhere. If not, can anyone recommend an sms app with reports?

handcent is essentially the samething as chompsms but there are more features to it like [[sms popup, delivery reports, alerts you when you are on the phone, alerts if you have a message and you didn't check it in a certain amount of time then it will alert you again, etc..]] i used it and i thought it was an awesome app but i'm currently using chomp. they're are both really great apps. i'm sure which ever you pick will be good.
 
removed chomp sms, got handscent, must say prefer handscent so far. it has delivery reports (although it doesn't state what time they receive it but i can live with that).
