Help Clock/weather widget - won't display "current location"

Yep, it's crap.

I naively hoped that Google/Android/HTC were going to spend some time actually finishing it off but it time honoured phone manufacturer style they have merely left the bugs in by rushing it out and gone on to work on the next phone that we will eventually buy to find different bugs in.

I have just set my location to London. It still annoys me now - it's the first thing on the screen when your vanilla phone boots up and it doesn't work properly!!

Still no voice dialling, still no proper bluetooth support, more than a handful of apps and it's painfully slow. I never bother to rotate it to landscape mode when writing texts/emails because I know it will take several seconds; longer than it will take for me to correct typos made on the small keyboard!!

Please Powers That Be, sort it out?

Nah, they'd rather add full screen weather animations ;-) (which are nice, though)

Can confirm that it doesn't work for Copenhagen either. It finds the city, even displays its name in Danish (because I have to use Danish UI on the Legend because of another stupid oversight - keyboard language follows UI locale), but after a while it'll change to "no weather data available".

Sure, I can add Copenhagen manually (for some reason it then WON'T display the name in Danish, and I won't find it in the list if looking for "K

Same Deal. I can find "Little Paxton" on accuweather, but phone just shows "Little Paxton (Current)". Clicking to the main weather app shows a blank screen, but scrolling up to the Cambridge one that I inserted, which is about 15 miles away it gets all pretty.

There's no way to set this as the default display though, it always wants to show current, which just fails.

Both clock and weather widgets show my current location, down to city part I'm in - it was the first choice on the list in both widgets' setup screens. Maybe you have disabled both location sources in settings or something?

Interesting - I went into London tonight. Phone said I was in "Kensington" and the weather widget / clock both worked fine. I could even scroll to "Bromley" and it would download the weather for that.

I'm now home again via Victoria which seems to be "London" and it is still saying London (and working correctly).

So, it's not Bromley (because it can download the data when I am in a different location and it's working properly) and it's not "current location" as when I am in a different area it works fine.

What on earth is up with this and why doesn't affect everybody?

This is happening to a lot of owners now mine only displays United Kingdom except when i am in and around London then it seems to work fine. There is nothing you can do think it is a problem with the app just they not prepared to except this yet

I encountered this problem..at home I use an Airave and it showed my location 60+ miles away. Turning off GPS did not help since the phone also used network location. When updating away from home out of Airave range the weather was correct.

To fix this I installed Beautiful Wigits, the app works perfect and lets me put in a fall back city if the phone can not acquire GPS or network location, so far this has happened once.

I doubt there is any reason to do a full phone reset to fix a wigit problem. Delete the wigit and reinstall it or simply just reboot.

Same happening here in Cardiff, the weather widget has not played ball for over a week. I've been through the factory reset, cleaned the sim card, cleared the memory and not a jot of difference to the weather widget, still no workee properly.

Eventually got through to HTC helpline this morning and was told that it was my provider's fault/problem........why are they called Helpline; no help or helpless would be more accurate !

Phoned Orange and not offered any explanation, cause, advise etc.........but the young girl did send me a link to update the apps on my phone.....whoopy doo but has not made any difference to the phone or updated the weather widget !

Surely someone somewhere can actually let us HTC users know what's going, even if it's a "sorry all, but that's all you're gonna get"

I upgraded to 2.1 last week, since then the Weather widget has shown United Kingdom, whereas before it even showed our village. I thought it might be something to do with the upgrade. But today after driving to work it suddenly changed to Birmingham, where I am at present. Interesting to see if it changes hen I get back home.

Same thing is happening to me. Worked fine pre 2.1 upgrade (cities, villages etc .. displayed), but post upgrade all it shows is United Kingdom.

same problem here "sometimes" it shows my location as the correct town / village I am in at the time but then it reverts to "United Kingdom"
It was working fine until last week pin point accuracy to even the smallest village.
Years ago you used to be able to set cell updates on your phone so you could find out what postcode / cell district you were in (as the tariff was based on location) I think this is what may be playing up?
Have updated my phone to the new software and it was working fine after the update it was only last few days that I have had the problem.

I gave up on the HTC weather widget ages ago, having my phone tell me its blazing hot sunshine when i can look out of my window and see the rain (and vice versa) starts to get old after a bit. That and 'updating...' taking what seems like an eternity and then silently failing (time of last update doesnt change). Gah! If i'd wanted gratuitous flashy pointless animations prioritised over having basic functionality i'd have bought an iphone!

I switched to snowstorm. Gives you forecasts in 3 hour chunks for the next 3-4 days, and single days forecasts for about a week after that. Seems to be pretty accurate. Give it a try.

I had the same problem with my Legend. I came to this site for help, but didn't find any. So, I shut down my phone and pulled the SIM card and re-started. Then shut down again, put SIM card back in and re-started again. Problem solved. The above procedure fixes a lot of my phone problems.

I was adding an additional city to my home screen weather on my HTC Hero and I selected the wrong city in the list when I did a search. How do I delete that incorrect city?
