Help Clock/weather widget - won't display "current location"

Why on earth (haha) is my weather/clock app saying that I'm in Chesapeake?
I'm on the other dog damn side of the atlantic; Thorshavn, Faroe Islands.
I can add Thorshavn, it works fine, but it keeps showing Chesapeake. I can delete all the cities except Chesapeake.. WTF!?
How do I make Thorshavn my current city (or at least the Faroe Islands)?

I think the problem is that the location you are having problems with ...is not in the servers Database ... so it picks the closest one that it can find ...

Many locations dont supply weather data to the database that is being relied on by the widget...

Actually the weather app has no problem finding my city and displaying it properly. I "fixed" it by resetting and choosing the right location. How and why it was set to Cheesecake I have no idea..

Just to add that I am another Hero user who gets "No Available Data" on the weather app when I am in Edinburgh. Weird how we don't get this service. I have bene using Weatherbug, but it's a bit crappy by comparison and uses Fahrenheit rather than Celsius.

You can change the temp to celsius in the preferences menu on WeatherBug Elite, i guess you can in the free version also?

Well, I went into Settings-My Location Services and unchecked both boxes, then went back to the Weather app and added Edinburgh manually and now it seems to be working at last. I have exited the app a few times then re-opened it and it still works okay.:)

Just tried that Alex but it still doesn't work for me  Looks like i'm gonna have to stick with WeatherBug until HTC sort it out :D

Try deleting the widget ... reboot phone ... reload widget...

Check your settings again ... if you make settings changes ... it is a good idea to reboot ...

Update: Tried again but this time deleted all the other cities as well, so i was just left with Edinburgh and fingers crossed it's working! :)

I think i did read earlier in this thread that this did work for somebody else but only temporarily? We'll see how it goes.

Darn it, tried the Weather app this morning first thing and it is back to not working. I am going to give up on it and get something else!

Not really the point though.

Given that, by default, the clock with weather is on the first screen that you see, and the weather app is also on your homescreen, the fact that it works about 10% of the time if that is POOR.

The clock has been working lately on mine until I rebooted and it doesn't anymore so I am using a different clock widget without weather because I am sick of staring at blank screen.

I never look at the weather app now. I know there is weather for my location (Bromley) because if I display "Bromley" or look at it when I am elsewhere then it works. When it is set to "Current Location" it says unavailable, which is clearly not true.

Come on HTC, sort it out. If you want an iPhone killer you need to get rid of bugs like this and do your own beta testing. Most people want a phone that just works, they don't want to be rooting/downloading updates to their week old phone, emailing support, hard resetting their just setup phone, or searching web forums for solutions to problems that shouldn't exist

Have done so - the first time they ignored the question and told me to sign up to their mailing list, when I pressed home the point they told me to do a hard reset. Clearly that's going to sort it

I think their support have their heads buried in the sand. Reminds me of when I bought a Sony-Ericsson P900 and SE were utterly useless. Phone was a big white elephant and couldn't wait until I was out of contract and could upgrade to an SPV C500!

Ah yes, the miraculous cure-all that is the factory reset.... </sarcasm>

Or somewhere else where the sun doesn't shine.

The weather app/widget just bugs me. The only Scottish towns/cities recognised are Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow. I'm relegated to "Highland, Highland" which covers several thousand sq miles and contains dozens of micro-climates due to the geography.

I think it's only the "Current Location" that's screwy in this app. The app found my location fine, but for two days I couldn't figure out how come my Hero couldn't gather the weather for Newcastle-upon-Tyne, but did fine for every other city in the world. Then, I realised when I put Newcastle-upon-Tyne in my list of other cities in the app, the weather was available, but my Current Location (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) was still saying, "No weather data available". So, I added Newcastle-upon-Tyne from the list of cities on the clock on the home-screen and the weather's there, however, when I roam this won't change. Of course, when I go to the widget, current location is still top of the list, still blank and still undeletable. It's all very odd.

And still HTC say "try a hard reset".

My wife just bought a Hero, and guess what? Weather/clock widgets don't display the weather.

I wouldn't mind if HTC acknowledged a problem and were working on a solution...

This is strange...I stuck the HTC flip clock widget, the one with the weather on it, on the home screen and now it downloads Edinburgh weather every time....but not with Edinburgh as "current location" but rather added manually as a new city.
It has worked for over a week now:)

Yes, but the "current location" thing does not work for some cities.

Given that this is hardly obscure but is the first thing that you see when you hard reset the phone I think it's inexcusable.

It's clear that there are some places where it just doesn't work properly

- Bromley (both mine and my wife's Orange Heros, hers has had the firmware update, mine not)
- Edinburgh (a couple of people have mentioned it in here)

Any others?

I'm having a similar problem. Sometimes the clock will display the name of my city, but most often it displays the words "Current City". It has also displayed the names of two other cities, one 450km away, the other 5,000km away, but those seem to have been anomalies (happening only once each that I observed, though I've only had the phone 6 days). It doesn't seem to help whether I have GPS enabled or not. Has anyone found a reason or cure for this?

So I'm not alone with this problem.

I am a 2 week old Hero owner in Singapore but the weather widget tells me I'm in Sanaa, Yemen. LOL!

This thing is doing my head in, I can add my city no problem, tap on the weather part and it will open up and give me my weather for where I am. BUT on the home screen under the clock I CANNOT get it to show my current location, right now its telling me I am in Dublin, its changed that from the usual location of London, yet I am in NNewcastle Upon Tyne.
I could scream

EDIT: In your phone settings under LOCATION if you change how your phone detects how it finds you either wireless or GPS, whatever you choose has an effect on where the weather app ssys you are.
The closest I get using wireless isw Newburn close enough but no weather data :(

Don't know if anyone is still following this thread but 'Current location' still doesn't work. Seems to be a real schoolboy error in the coding and I can't understand why they still haven't fixed it. My location, for example, is 'Portsmouth, United Kingdom' - however, the 'current location' tracking lists it as 'Portsmouth, Portsmouth' which clearly isn't going to work!

The only solution I've found is manual. I've switched off both options under 'Settings > Location' and have added my location from the directories in both the weather and the clock apps. I've also removed the default cities from both apps and have added the locations that are relevant to me. In the weather app you can sort your list so that your main location is in the first slot. In the clock app, whichever location you set as home city will be displayed in its weather summary.

I don't get an automatic update according to where I currently am, but I can at least flick between the cities in my list to get the latest weather forecasts.
