Root ClockWorkMod

I'm just posting in this thread for future reference, patiently waiting for a custom recovery release.

This phone can't possibly run Jelly Bean... or can it?

Of course it can! If the V can with it's rom then the Elite should no problem!

update on attempting to use the lg update as a means of "implanting" a custom recovery : MaSsiVe bRiCk MoDE!!!!! O_o lol....hey i tried totally not knowing wtf i was doing. dropped in an old v recovery into the lg update zippy and ran it. oooops!!! didnt even get an lg logo after that. just a brightening of screen then power off and back on loop. how i salvaged it i dont know but it did recognize via usb after reinstalling lg drivers while plugged in. so i used tot to salvage. dont try this at home. in fact, dont ever try it...atleast my method lol....NOT GOOD. anyway, carry on people.

edit : as a side note, just a guess but i think i was lucky i didnt completely destroy the device. impatience isnt a virtue. i pulled the battery after a few lines of errors started flying up the screen. i guess that stopped it from whatever it was doing

While crude, risky and probably not the best thing to do, sometimes those kinds of risks pay off, other times you go down in a big pile of flames. Either way, it's always interesting.

I may have to try that driver method and see if I can get the one I have to show up so I can re-flash it and get it going again.

im a flashing junkie. coming from the v to the elite is like a 30 yr drunk suddenly going cold sober. little shaky!! needin a fix lol. it helped a bit :( lol

very capable phone. i dont think it would have trouble running jelly bean or about anything else you threw at it.

I have not used JB, so I have no idea what it's like.... I could flash my tablet with it to check it out. Just love the interface of ICS, which is what's on the tablet.
Would be very happy with ICS on the phone and dump clunky GB.....

So, is there an estimate on when the CWM is going to be released? Like, a guesstimate.

I'm in no rush, I'd just like a timeframe so I know when to check back here.

Seriously it's like a bunch of children, the recovery will be done when it's done, asking about it over and over again is just getting annoying. There's no way to tell when it's going to be done, as Leslie Ann said earlier: "In computing, you spend 95% of time identifying the problem, 4% looking up a fix, and the last 1% actually fixing the problem." It is impossible to know when something is finished when you don't actually know the steps involved to accomplish it. I would love to have it on my phone right now too but sitting here pestering people about it is not going to make it go any faster.

Stop asking when it's going to be done no body will be able to give you an answer.

Drew is sitting on a beach somewhere sipping margaritas, laughing maniacally whilst playing angry birds on his shiny new optimus elite.

We will have it "soon"

"Soon" does not imply any particular date, time, decade, century, or millennia in the past, present, and certainly not the future. "Soon" will arrive some day, We do guarantee that "soon" will be here before the end of time. Maybe. Do not make plans based on "soon" as we will not be liable for any misuse, use, or even casual glancing at "soon."

Saw this on another forum and had to post ;)

My sentiments are akin to the "are we there yet?" observation.

We have our best hope working on not CWM, but something better, and not only that, but he is doing it out of pocket and on his own free time. He doesn't even really care for the device itself, just contributing to the community. He is going out of his way to achieve this for us simply because he can and wants to, and that's that. He'll finish it when it's ready to be finished, and he'll let us know accordingly.

Bottom line is, can we all just stop talking about it and wait for a quality release, checking back every couple of days for a post from Drew or an update at least, instead of "are we there yet?" comments and nonsensical drivel?

Please?

I'm with him. I severely doubt that Drew would get CWM working and just forget to tell us about it.

I was thinking about what was said about piggybacking a new recovery on an update and I got my thinking. Would it be possible to use some of the tools from the jcase root method (lgnpst) to push a recovery to the phone? Also, I've flashed cot on my old optimus v and its awesome. I'm trying to learn some development so I've got a quick question, what is it that is stopping us from using something like the flash image apk that you use on the o v to get COT?

if i recall correctly leslie mentioned that jcase said it would be possible to use his method to push pretty much everything to the phone. recovery and any rom you had that would work. but problem is not many people know how to build a tot file to push. he does, but i would imagine using that method is fairly laborious and whether or not he would even want to is all speculation. as for drews progress,i wont speculate. he'll post when he feels he has something to post. until then its chill pill time.

From what I understand, no, simply flashing a custom recovery within the TOT would not help since the same bootloaders or boot sequence (with what we assume is a checksum or secure-boot feature) would still prevent a custom recovery from booting.

I know at least a few of us have posted this already, but again, the problem is not flashing/writing a custom recovery to the recovery partition. We have accomplished that. The problem we need to overcome is defeating whatever checksum or other special feature is built-in to the boot sequence.

One method of getting around this problem might be getting our hands on a prerelease of the Elite firmware which doesn't have the booting restriction included. It's also possible that a bootstrap method could be used. Ex. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1826378
