Root CM 10.1 Nightlies Discussion

Thanks for testing that, it's a neat feature. When did you buy your phone, mine is an early version bought at the end of February 2012 right after they became available. Guess I'll do a nightly update, uninstall ES File explorer and try again.
Got mine activated in early March 2013 but through Amazon Wireless. Not sure how that whole supply chain works.

Minor, but the bootloader option was gone in the nightly from the 4th but is back in the nightly from the 6th.

Not sure why... Just thought it was odd.

I do have the latest gapps. Worked fine before this nightly. Isn't Gallery/Camera baked in CM(Failing to understand the reason to ask about gapps for it.)?

Getting boot loop on charge also with a drained battery. Doesn't matter how much it charges, have to pull battery. I see the bootloader option as well.

Edit: Powered off at 10% and it got stuck in charge loop again. Pulled battery and it booted up at 1%. Odd. Will have to test this more another time.

Imo, nightlies can be more trouble than they're worth. It's best to check the merged changes and see if flashing a new build makes sense. Many times, things are removed, so it can be a hassle. If and when they get a stable build, that's one I flash.

I don't disagree. For the majority of users they should avoid nightlies like the plague and the people who do run nightlies should always assume a new nightly will break functionality. They're there to test building the code. Its good to have some users running them to test and catch things that break inadvertantly from code changes though. Better to catch code that breaks something right after changing it then weeks later since it limits the number of changes you need to investigate.

It seems 80-90% of the problems are unique to a device. I find that very strange.

I tested my USB mass storage connectivity with windows and the drivers installed, works without problems but still have nothing when connecting to Ubuntu 12.

I don't know about other phones because the spectrum is only my second smartphone, but in the year I've owned it and being on this forum I have learned that this phone is famous for having issues which only effect certain phones; what I mean is that 50 people could all be running the same Rom and same kernel yet there be 5 different problems only 20 people are having and none of those 20 all experience the same set of issues. It's very strange indeed. It could be a host of things that cause this but it's just strange to see this occur over and over again with this phone.

Really? It makes perfect sense if you think about it.

Apple has 1 version of iOS to make for one device; each android device has a unique build / themed(bloated) version of android, so when developing roms, you have to try to cater to all the variances between devices. I'm surprised as many devices work as well as they do on custom roms, tbh. The hacking required to get some devices (like this one) on custom roms is quite high.

By devices I think both posts above this mean certain devices in this family. IE: Some people could get GPS working with no issues, other couldn't. Same phone model, different devices.

I don't believe (as I read it) that they mean different phone models....

I have a desktop and a work laptop, both running windows 7 x64 ultimate, the laptop works with my spectrum, the desktop doesn't, both have the newest drivers installed (tested older versions too). My other work laptop runs windows 7 pro, but when I am not working, is booted into mint 14 (previously Ubuntu 12.04, also a pain in the butt when my phone boot loops while I am working) and has never once failed to recognize my spectrum (once I added the udev rules).

I use the mint install to do anything useful and the desktop is my VMware server.

Oh yea, we've definitely discussed that ad nauseum here. Some of us would have gps issues on some builds and others didn't. I can only surmise it's related to batches of devices. Of course, I never had this issue with and of my Droids...

Well just flashed this and for gaming I have got to say its fantastic, just played some extreme road trip and it actually feels smoother then on my icy fusion ROM, although there are glitchy moments on cm10.1 whereas none on ICS but for the most part I think gaming is superb on the latest nightly of cm10.1 and also I'm using ortriggers jb kernel with it and also just thanks again tdm for your awesome dev work!

No nightly for tonight, waited 9 hours today to update from m2, but doesn't look like it will happen, they have <20 minutes till tomorrow their time. Looks like the build are still pushing out though. 4 more before the spectrum.

Sorry to double post, but tapatalk is only showing Less than half my post when I edit. Does this mean their won't be another nightly tomorrow? As they should have the same name...

Apparently the date is not automatic but it is up, although only working via the short URL though, getting a 404 error on the normal link.

What's the best (smoothest, most stable) version to install at this point? The last update from TDM pre-CM approval, the M2 version, or the latest nightly?

...or is AOKP42 still the best option?

My best battery was on TDM's cm10.1 beta 4, I have had to switch off of these ROMS for the time being because my battery was draining so fast. I am currently on the ICY ICS ROM and battery is much better for me. It could definitiely just be my phone though, so check with some other people. I might try doing a fresh .cab install and trying again to see if anything changes. I really wish I was still using a JB ROM, especially after everyone's hard work to get official support, but battery is a big necessity for me.

I can't get my phone in download mode by taking battery out and replacing it and connecting USB while holding vol up and down button. (I have done this successfully many times before). I believe this is an issue for me since I was running tdm's JB roms. Has the CM changed the key combinations? Any suggestion?

works for me running mint 13... try a different usb cable

WHOA! Holy SU jacking batman!

Looks like CM took over managing superuser requests last night. There's a popup from them for anything asking for superuser and a menu option under System > #superuser now.

Also, I noticed today that my GPS is back to not working... I'm sure it's just me, but definitely sucked trying to find a new way home without it lol.
I have noticed about GPS too. Not same on stock because this is CM behavior. In CM 10.1 I opened Maps app and GPS locked then stopped running. Usually less than 15 sec. I believe this is not bug or issue, just behavior. This fine with me. On stock v7 continue locking location infinitive time. One problem is Maps directions won't work (can't get direction list) with destination and origin "My location" after 15 second. Because GPS does not turn on again in same app. Need to point on map for directions or enter address.

On CM10.1 in my spectrum losing data often on low signal. Too many timeouts on web browser Chrome. I remember on CM10.0 data working better. I think in CM10.1 reduced power of the signal.

That seems to have improved sometime within the last couple of nightlys.
