Root CM 7.1 & LorDmod

So far, so good @ -50... will give it another day (and really hammer it on the way to London) to be sure, then try pinky! :D

Despite the way it's ordered, Stable Pinky is probably your best bet.

Fair enough... will give it a go - as I said... will hammer it on the way to London tomorrow... at least that way I should be able to run the battery down on a battery calibration run, then look at changing it over! :)

I posted a week or so ago asking about the pro/cons, benefits of rooting and flashing.

I've now taken the plunge and after some mishaps (all of my own making) I now have a CM7/LordMod rooted DHD which really is quite slick!

I've posted this in a few forums - my only one issue is the market. It either doesn't download or it takes some persuading via attempts to clear the cache (sometimes even via clockworkmod/recovery). I've no idea if this is even the right resolution or whether its simply coincidental but as of now I have all my old apps and have managed to download more (battery calibration and Titanium Backup Pro being the key ones). Anyone think this is normal behaviour or is there a cause I am unaware of?

I do have a real question - radios - is it worth flashing these? Thus far I have to say I am thrilled with CM7 and the Lordmod kernel. Would altering the radio make a significant difference?

I would just add to all those pondering doing this - it's easy!! Just read the guides a number of time before and make sure you are clear in your mind what needs to be done. In reality it takes less than 15 minutes. I can however not stress enough the importance of backing up all of your data before embarking on this! Download titanium (pay the

Glad you decided to go for it, well played! :)

Did you restore the market links in Titanium? Menu -> Market Tools -> Market Doctor. Also, try running Fix Permissions in ROM Manager. If they fail/you've done them already, try downloading the new market from here. Also, clear the cache AND Data associated with it. If all that fails, there are folders on your SD Card called android_secure and LOST.DIR. Back them up to the PC, then delete them from your SD Card and reboot your phone, that should sort.

It can for some, for me it didn't make much of a difference. What's your current radio? It's the baseband bit in About Phone. It's not difficult to flash a radio, you just need to be careful.

Re the kernel, have you played with undervolting etc yet?

Prez any chance you could supply the link for undervolting (again) buggered if i can find it.
Cheers

I'll be honest with you and say I'd the same issue when I was in Edinburgh. Have you signed up for the T-Mobile crossover thing? I get a much better signal using T-Mobile than I do with Orange. Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Mobile Operators -> Select Automatically, you'll also need National Data Roaming selected. That will flit between which ever has the better signal and save you a bit of battery. Alternatively, you could just try Orange T-Mobile constantly, see if that makes a difference (you may need to switch back to Orange if you want to browse via 3G/H though. However, I now get a 3G/H when using the T-mobile too so they must be using each others 3G network too).

If you also switch to a 2G signal when not browsing, that can help. It's a pain changing back when you need to use it, but you can easily add a toggle to the notification power widget. Settings -> Cyanogen Settings -> Interface -> Notification Power Widget -> Widget Buttons -> Toggle 2G/3G.

Calls etc will come through and sound fine on 2G.

Yeah ive signed up for the crossover, also have the national data roaming selected, but ive dont think i have ever picked up T Mobile. The 2g is not a problem as i have the notification power widget set up for that.

Right, thats the file installed. Just gonna wait until the charge reaches 100% then im going to hammer the living daylights out it at -25 and see how it gets on:rolleyes:

El P, that sorted the market cheers.

One oddity, using the stock CM7 mail client, I have an email with a PDF attachment. When I open mail I see the attachment at the bottom but no open/save dialogue?

I have PDF reader installed, any ideas?

So... have been giving it some hammering at -50... all good... no force closes or anything... will try stable pinky and see what the score is. To be honest, even though I've been hammering it, the battery has not been so great - this morning I unplugged at fully charged and after a bit of Facebook, checking on here and a little bit of games (about 30 mins in all), I'm on 75% battery!

EDIT - ok... make that 1 hour in total, but I was expecting a little better when not hammering it - lost 10% in the first 20 mins just looking on here!

I've had a look through the LorDmod thread and it looks as though I misinterpreted the level of UV for all the levels. From smallest to most its -25, -50, -Ultra UV, Stable Pinky, Pinky. You might want to try Ultra UV before Stable Pinky, sorry. :o

Have you been browsing here via the Phandroid app? That really, really hates the battery on CM7. There are ways around that though.

Been on here using the browser, not any app. Actually 20% loss, not 10%, in first 20 mins. Will try ultra then n see what score is! Haven't got the LorDmod script on my phone for if I have to pull the battery, but will do a backup and restore like that if I have to!

Yeah - browsing by 3g. Usually I'm on wifi (tend to have 3g off unless I have to look at something and can't get on wifi.

Not sure if it's worse... can live with it though, as I usually have access to charge up. Was a little concerned on way to London though. Unplugged at home and, in 5 hours before getting to the hotel, pretty much ran battery down to nothing. That was music constantly for 3.5 hours, a bit of browsing on 3g and playing a few games. If the 3g browsing really does eat battery, then fair enough... it's not standard for me to be browsing for a long time on 3g anyway!

Yeah, if you'd 3G on for all that time and were listening to music and playing games etc, that would hammer the battery. He's a new kernel out (as of yesterday) so you might wanna give that a whirl when you get back.

Nice one mate... will do!! Just backed up, so once I'm fully charged, I'm gonna go for ultra on this kernel n see what it's like! Would have thought, from how they're listed in his app, that ultra was the last one to try... got nothing to loose though, so may as well try it!
