Root CM12.1 UNOFFICIAL RC5

If one more noob tries to tell me how to achieve root on a stock rom I no longer have installed I swear...

I installed the CM12 rom without installing supersu or having permanent root, just TWRP recovery.

How confusing was that when I said it the first time?

Gaaaaahhhhhd

So what exactly are you asking for then. How to activate root in cm12?
If so its in the settings under developer options

The RC2 flash was a bit interesting as I couldn't achieve permanent root on this build (Z970V1.0.0B22) like i could on the last one (Z970V1.0B20). KingRoot4.0 would only get me temporarily rooted. No matter, I went ahead and installed TWRP recovery while temporarily rooted and I didn't even bother installing SuperSU.. rebooted into recovery (and lost root), but the install went smooth... No ISSUES what so ever.

Actually, it was a bit confusing because you said

It sounded like you were struggling to get root on cm12.1
If you weren't rambling on about something that had nothing to do with the ROM on this thread then there wouldn't have been any confusion.

I am on the Tmobile variant zmax, currently running the latest RC2, on MetroPCS service. i installed RC2, the recommended gapps, test kernel, flamingo sensor fix and netflix fix. so far, i have not encountered any problems whatsoever. sensors are great. youtube is finally working correctly. gps seems good. only problem i still see is that the screen locks up every once and a while, but only requires a screen off/on and its fixed. it is now a daily driver in my book. Thank you Hroark for all your hard work!!!!

Ok idk if this has to do with the ROM but its happened twice. when texting, while typing the message it would randomly call their number. Keep in mind my hand is nowhere near the dial button at the top of the screen.

It had everything to do with the installation of the CM12 ROM...
And my apologies for the confusion.

I didn't have any questions for anybody, just wanted to thank hroark and the 'team' for their hard work, while also enlightening those in the forum with similar issues. (Or for those of you who would just like to skip a step in the process of preparing to install a new ROM.)

Basically all I was saying was:
You DO NOT need root to install these ROMS or any other ROM for that matter.

So don't worry about achieving permanent root before you flash.

You just need to achieve (temp) root to install TWRP recovery.

And there is no need to install supersu.

Hope that clears it up.

My apologies, my seemingly relative post to this topic has gone off on a tangent.

And sorry piplup, I know you were just trying to help...

On another note, I would like to see if there's a way I can help out with the dev of this build.. I would REALLY like to get the Dolby Digital plus working for CM12.

Also, would like to help with other minor bug fixes like the 'laggy' screen dim. (Does anyone else have the same issue with the screen dimming?))

Edit: I haven't been able to test it, but does anyone have HD calling in CM12?

(That was one of my favorite features from the stock rom, and if it's not working I would like to try everything in my power to get it working on CM12.)

Idk sounds more like you're having issues with your phone settings.. There is a smart call option in the phone settings. Make sure it's disabled..
Phone > Settings > Sensor Options > Smart Call

Hope this helps...

Since having cm12 on my phone, my bloothtooth headset has better coverage than before, Alot better. Quick upload on the Internet as well. Watch an entire movie on Netflix with no problems & surf through YouTube with ease. Even the sound is better. Loving it...

What build are you running?

My sound isn't quite 100% (I'm on RC2)

Sound in RC2 is a little garbly with some system sounds like notifications and ringer.

In call volume is kinda quiet (speaker and headset).

Headphone sound is working fine.

Media through the speaker is working OK. (Treble is high while missing the lower 'bass' notes.)

Note: I would like to help fix this issue rather than patching it..

i would check out the audio effects app that comes pre-installed with this rom. i noticed my speaker sounded a bit tinny and discovered there were already some settings applied in that app.

in this case, a patch can become a fix when applied to the downloadable version of the rom, so if you were to find a patch and hroark added it to the downloadable rom it should be considered a fix.

Yeah I fiddled with AudioFX quite a bit with no luck. I also installed a different version of AudioFX to see if it did anything, still no luck.

Ehh maybe I'll just try to get Dolby Digital Plus plugged into this ROM, now THAT would be considered a fix! (That's IF it fixes the audio issue of course.) ;)

Am I on the right track with this guys??

not sure which patches you used, but you may wanna try reinstalling cm12 without each patch to see if one of them is causing the problem, assuming this problem wasnt there before rc2. you could also revert to beta1 or beta2 to see if they work better. ive read a few people discussing certain issues more prevalent in rc2 than the former.

Yeah I may just revert back to beta2 from RC2 for troubleshooting. I recall having low in call volume in beta2 as well though. I'll work on the volume today and see if I can get something worked out..

I used the sound mod found in the forum that helps sound to become extremely louder than without it , idk if you want to looking into that

It is completely normal for your call volume to be a little lower with cyanogenmod

Thanks for pointing out that this issue is CM inherent.

I'll probably just start with trying to fix it on hroark's latest build, RC2, since that is what I'm running now..

I'll also look into what's up with HD calling and see if we can get that working again too. Maybe these two issues are somehow correlated. And I suspect the absence of Dolby Digital Plus has a lot to do with it.

I tried editing the mixer file... Even thou the op explains that RW doesn't stick after reboot....
Still tried so I'd stop tripping on it... Lol..
Goofy thing is it's a mod/hack you have to reboot for effect...
Probably a good thing it didn't sick.... Didn't get to find out

HD calls and WiFi calling are both proprietary the phone companies make the software for that and they don't give out the source for it.
