Root CM7 Nightlies

I want to chime in about the random Force Close issues with CM7.

I never had those problems with the nightlies before 7.02 stable. And I was constantly installing nightlies on top of each other.

I thought it was caused by some rogue app, so I started uninstalling stuff. Amazon apps store seemed to be the problem, makes sense because it was new at the time.

After a few weeks, those force close problems came back. Luckily, by then there was an up to 7.02.1 stable. I thought that would fix the problem, but no. Then I thought the Facebook app was causing the problems, so I cleared the cache for Facebook app, and it worked. Later, 7.03 stable came out and I installed that, a week later, those FC problems came back, so I started hunting for rogue apps again.

It got so bad that my browser would crash EVERY single time.

After a while I realized that it didn't make sense. An OS shouldn't be so bad that almost everything FC's.

I know for sure that this never happened on CM6.

Right now I did a full wipe and factory reset and installed the latest nightly. And the phone is working great. It's actually faster. Only been two day, so far so good.

So there either is something wrong with Gingerbread or CM7 stable versions.

Now what we do on cm7 is just flash nightlys over one another and the small inner framework changes will compile and keep compiling And this causes problomes because the phone doesn't known what part of the framework to use so...
untill you start a new with a fresh framework you will get forcecloses unless you wipe the phone every once and awhile

So I going to do a clean install of nightly 90 cos I'm getting some force closes. Haven't done a full wipe for over 30 builds.

EDIT: Everything is working flawlessly after a full wipe. Nice.
 
I'm going to do a full wipe on the next nightly build - 91. There are quite a few changes in the changelog that look interesting. I've not wiped for about 30 consecutive nightlies so perhaps it's time.
 
The weird thing is after I did the full wipe and reinstall I lost a bunch of contacts. Completely erased from phone and gmail.

I just tried the clearing date fix so we'll see how that goes since i started getting the FCs again today. I really like this rom so I don't mind a little extra work it just sucks if it happens when you need to do something on the phone and you're out on the road.
 
I have.... I've tried all the radios for my Dinc and they pretty much all ended up with the same results. I did, however, notice that I was getting a signal with the leaked radio that I got no signal with any of the others. It is a weak signal -- bouncing from 1x to 3g, but it is a signal none-the-less and has convinced me to keep the leaked radio on the phone.
 
My force closes and moumt problomes had to deal with me flashimg the new 3.0 roms and somethimg corruped my internal mem ... But I got my probloms fixed.... As far as radios I dont mess with that cuz the risk of bricking my for good is to high

I read all the scary reports about flashing a radio and I finally decided to give it a try. I have downloaded all of the radios and have saved a file with the md5's. I have all radios on my phone and have checked each md5 so I know each one is verified. I simply copy the one I want into root, change the name so it will be recognized, then reboot using the down volume button. The flash takes about 30 seconds and all is good.
 
Wow, 91 is taking a long time. Every time I check the changelog, they have added more stuff. It is now the longest changelog that I've seen and I've been doing nightlies since the late 50's...

where did you get 91 i only see 90 up on the mirror site

I assume the next one would be 91 but you are correct -- they don't always go in consecutive numbers. I assume it happens when they make a nightly and test it and discover major issues. That one then gets skipped as a release to the public. This seems to happen when the changelogs get big. Perhaps we'll see the next one being higher than 91...

Hummer yeah I know this. .. I see huge change long but the nightly hasent released yet to us I hope it will be tonight though
 
Yay. Nightly 93 is up. I'm going to wait. I just tried Nils Gingersense and really like it. With so many changes in this one, I'm afraid of bugs so I'll wait for the next build I think.

Where'd you download the Gingersense rom from, and what are your impressions of it? CM7 is getting stale for me and I'm looking for a change that's as stable and quick.
 
Camera just will not work. Its the only app that I get fcs in. Has not been working since nightly 80s. Not working with latest either :(

I downloaded nils ginger sense. I had some reboot problems and other bugs that caused me to go back to cm 7. Ginger sense is beautiful but it was slower than cm 7. I'm going to wait until an official release for ginger sense So that we have something more stable.

So I did a full data cache dalvik cache wipe and flashed 93 and that didn't fix the camera. So I wiped again and restored my 88 nandroid and everything, including the camera works. Weird...

What is crazy is that the camera wasn't working on 88 then I did all the wiping and reflashing only to go to my backup and now it works. The camera is always breaking for me :( Of course it works now. :)
