Root CM7 Nightlies

yeah man ... not a problem glad i can help... did any of that work by the way

Tried everything including the switch to clockwordmod recovery. Called Verizon today for a replacement. Wish they would have given me the dinc 2 but if the replacement has the same problem then I will fight for a dinc 2

It took two replacements to get a fully functional device. I read some things about the edify vs amend scripts and I think that because amon ra recovery uses amend (from the info I read on xda) it could have been messing with my camera. I will miss amon ra but clockwork seems to be the safest way to go. Flashed build 149 (fully wiped 3x) and was happy to be running 2.3.5! Downloaded most of my apps from before. One question I do have is whether the market will ota update in cyanogenmod? Has anyone running it updated this way? Or does it have to be manually flashed? Thanks for all the help guys.

No once running a custom rom either vanilla biased of not the update scrips are removed so once the coding or the .APK is released then we will be able to flash it or install it so thats what will go down
and i am jellious you are on 2.3.5
i aint yet ... :(

Hello Fellow Forum Dwellers,

I'm on my third and hopefully final replacement Dinc. I replaced my Dinc this many times for reasons unrelated to a dev, a bad flash, a bad kernel, a gargoyle, or anything like that. Just some plain old hardware failure is how I would put it. Anyway, I prefaced my intended question because 1) I am pretty detail oriented when it comes to my phone 2) I stay informed as much as possible when it comes to trying new things 3) I rarely deviate from instructions set forth by devs and Forum Dwellers because I don't know everything and only wish to have a fantastic Android Experience, as I like to call it 4) and lastly, I appreciate the hard work of devs and the help I get from my fellow mates here at android forums. Okay, enough babbling...

So here is my question: When I got my first Dinc, I rooted, ROMd and even flashed the 2.15.00.11.19 Radio (thanks to doug piston for his site!). I flashed the Radio because I could have sworn I read somewhere that it was a superior Radio to the Verizon 2.15.00.07.28 Radio. Like I stated above, I'm on my third replacement and it is of course rooted (love how it only takes 5 or so min!), running Nightly 149 (First and only ROM flash on this phone) with Chads 2.6.38.8 Incredikernel (thanks Chad) but I have the Verizon Radio. I haven't flashed a Radio because I really want to know what the benefit would be to flash any other radio. For example, I don't know that the 2.15.00.11.19 Radio I had on my first Dinc really made any difference. Likewise, I'm not sure that I am experiencing any call issues that warrant flashing a different radio on my new device. I should note that I get echos the first 3 secs or so when I call connects, but that goes away every time. I experienced this with both radios on separate phones.

In closing, I would like some kind of explanation from someone who cares to take the time and is informed. I also don't mind being pointed toward the answer since I already did as much searching as I could before creating this post.

Thank you,

jmar

EDIT: Flashed 151 and it is super fast and lovely. Do you more experienced folks flash every update or just the ones that bring major/needed upgrades?

JMAR my man

haha i got ya man the radio for android phone are important for only two reasons and have nothing else to do with the phone

1) it contains the programing that allows your phone to connect to a certain network (Verizon in our case) but all carriers have different radios and these radios are made for certain phone families... and some have a better time connecting to certain towers but its pretty much a universal thing
2) the radio for any android phone contains the Hboot for our phones or the programing that allows us to root our phones because the Hboot contains the bootloaders and ALL the essential programing that is needed for out phones to turn on that stuff is int included in the roms we flash.

For me personaly i see ONLY 3 reasons why a new radio should be flashed. It should be just something to do just to do it, it is the dangerous part of the phone because one little thing messed up and your phone is insta briked with no chance of recovery

1) your phone has HORRIBLE signal and other methods didn't work like*228 (if this was the case i would go to Verizon and let them fix it (less liability on you))
2 ) your dream rom that you have always wanted and wont ever change needs a certain radio to run and it is not recommended that you go back and forth between radios.
3 ) (this wont happen (might if we get official GB)) sense we are rooted we will not get OTA's so if an Official radio FOR the incredible was released and you wanted if it promised to be better for your signal.

hoped that helped again man anything else I can help you with PM me and ill be glad to help man as for the echoing i think we all have that because i have had it on 3 of 4 of my incredibles

Blackbelt my MAN! Great answer my friend. Your posts are one of the main reasons I love this forum. I like XDA for its breadth and depth of users and potential answers but usually, peeps on this forum are less grumpy. Anyway, not bad-mouthing XDA, just my observation.

I think I am going to stick with 2.15.00.07.28 until someone insists that another baseband is NECESSARY. Thank you for your response.

So the question I posed in my edit of the post you answered: Will I find a more stable experience by flashing only the "significant nightlies" versus every nightly? With my 1st Dinc I flashed every nightly from 20 to 140. I know that my camera problem was a hardware failure (I dropped my 1st Dinc numerous times, he he) but some nightlies did indeed have broken camera issues. What is your stance?

See for my phone it more practical to flash every nightly because we do not have an official stable release... But because the inc has been in development for so long I after a while only flashed nightlys that had a change log of more then 5 things personal number and if that didn't happen I just flashed once a week... But that whole thing is ALL personal preference if you wanna do every one do it it won't hurt your phone if you wipe every once and a while and if you slack off in your flashing addiction then do so lol

And I can say yeah the people of xda can sometime be anti boob and anti questions I guess its who ever you know over there lol

I'm sad you retired the Dinc1...I admit only slight friendly jealousy that you are rocking a Dinc2 cos I have my final NewEvery2 in April 2012 and I plan on getting me some Ice Cream Sandwich between Q2 & Q3 of 2012. Thank you again for your advice and direction my friend. With this new REFURB I have fallen in love with the Dinc all over again...I guess Nightly 151 and 2.3.5 Gingerbread have a hand in that as well...

...seriously! I never bash iPhone...ever! This forum is for Android...I get it. But other than an FCC with a native Video Chat app, my Dinc with Cyanogen is superior to the iPhone 4 in every single way...no questions!!!

...sorry...I had to get that out...I just hate the iPhone, not people who own it (and i said all this without uttering a single naughty word)!

Good night. I need smoke.

I wouldn't consider myself a boob or a noob...lol!

I tried out cm7 and it was nice but I wound up going back to my old froyo (deodexed) rom since I configured it in such a way it works great for me and I missed it...

BUT I have a question.

If you remove certain apps that come installed on CM7 (like anroid terminal or even ADW) when you install the next nightly do those apps get reinstalled?

Yes they will

In your (cyanogen Dinc community) experience, are build with lots of changes/additions/etc more likely to be buggy than those builds with minimal changes? Yes I realize that cyanogenmod is prone to bugs do to its inherent nature. Just seeking wisdom...

Really there is no way to tell man it is all in the coding and with android there its no telling there are a lot of variables that happen and more chAnges does mean more code and may mean more bugs but you never really know until you get into it... And for the average end user of cyanogen mod7 does not get into the meat and pattos of there phone so they really don't see about 99.9% of bugs that actuly happen

I figured.. I miss my AmonRa Recovery but I think my phone is more stable with ClockworkMod.

humm nice i am dropping CM7 and going with gingersence 3.0 YAY so much fun i just hope it works lol

Really??? I've tried gingersense roms and I just can't stand how the ui interacts with android. I feel like buttons are out of place, keyboard is horrendous and stock android is just perfect when coupled with ADW Launcher. My 2¢.
