Root CM7 Nightlies

This isn't the best thread for the nightlies, this is:

I just started a thread here because sometimes it's nice to talk about our individual findings and thoughts here at AF where you're far less likely to get your ass chewed for reposting something that was answered 29 pages ago like you might at XDA.

And good luck breaking down the "changelog" into understandable terms. I can't figure it out for the life of me. Like you, I hoped it would be easier to track progress but the only thing I've been able to do so far is listen to what other users have to say and compare it to my own experiences with CM7.

I think there are some people you might get a "head's up" tweet from now and then if you know who to follow but I don't really use Twitter anymore and I don't know who all the ringleaders are anyway.

I'm running build #7 and have found no issues. I actually like it more than any other Rom thus far. (Myns RLS5, Milk Froyo 4.4 & MIUI roms nandroided) I know there are things missing, but I feel CM7 vs the other roms (stock htc sence included) is just cleaner, faster and just smoother.

I'd like to know whats missing and if we can get it back via download-able / side loading an apk. For instance, the one thing I am missing and want back is sprints visual voice mail... can I get an apk that will allow for this in CM7? If so, could a member of my community be kind enough to PM me the apk or PM me an email address so that I may respond in kind? I'm off to run errands and will research this later as well. Thanks guys!


What else is missing, what have you found added in say the latest nightly which I believe is build #11

Good luck with changes. I have never found a layman's guide. The xda thread linked above IS the best but this one is nice because it is more layman friendly.

Also, you are in the Incredible forum which means asking for Sprint Visual Voicemail seems a bit out of place. I think you are EVO and thus should check that part of the forum. I doubt anyone here will have that.

Since flashing #9 last night, my screen off animation is not working anymore. Anyone else notice this?

Be sure that the animation speeds in Spare Parts is set to normal and double check the settings in Display Setting. Sometimes things can mysteriously change.
 
I have not had a chance to flash #10 yet, so i'm still on #9. My screen off animation is normal... I agree with bjanow, flash #10.

Your right, my frustrations got the best of me... I was running bit late for the gym and had to get to a football party.... All to watch the @#$%'n Bears lose! I wanted a break down more so I could see if something major had been added like 4G... So far #7 seems stable enough and it is the rom I'm sticking with for a while. I love the launcher included and the cyanogen wallpapers are cool and I love the ring tones. If I could get all three with a 4G ready Rom I may go that route. For now, its CM7 #7 FTW!

Damn it... i always do that, I did a search for CM7 and found this thread....! I figured it had enough posts to poke around and post a bit myself.... never paying attention to the actual thread or what phone it was for! FAIL on my part, thanks for the clarification!
 
I appreciate them doing this, as they seem to put more effort into testing their ROMs than most (but they're also a larger team/community). I'm going to wait for the "stable" release. It could be weeks or months away, but I'm patient.

This is already as stable as some Roms I've run. ;)
 
So far I have had issues with my contacts (which I also had a while back before I went root). Otherwise, my issues have been occasional fails. So I go to backup and do it again.

I was going to stay at #7 and wait for stable but I feel like I cheat everyone by not being part of the guinea pig mob
 
Just a note. Using a few apps, I cleaned up all the duplicate contacts I had (hopefully for good!) (Contact Analyzer 2, Contact Remover, and MyBackup Root)

I should have a nice backup of my contacts now. Hopefully this is behind me!

Never got #10 working because of contacts, but #11 seems excellent. I seem to get a single FC on Launcher Pro when I first boot phone, but otherwise it is very smooth.

The thing is that when the "choppy" issue was going on, it was all people using the stock ADW and not those using Launcher Pro. I am hoping the rewrite will clean up the FC issue, but even if it doesnt, the scrolling AND swiping dock is soooo smooth, it is a must for a launcher for me. Until someone does it as well as LPP, I aint going anywhere.

However, everyone has their own needs, I just have much more streamlined homescreens thanks to the dock basically being 30 quick actions!
 
I have been on #10 for a day or 2 and it seems pretty stable for me. Funny, I loaded a stock sense rom the other day, and i was blown away how slow it felt. 2.3 is so much faster. I am getting amazing battery life also. I just underclocked to about 700 mhz and it still seems plenty fast for normal use, and it lasts for ever!

As of right now I ventrued off to try #12. What I noticed in both versions 7 and 12 is that the phone's screen will lock up if you have your phone charging. If we all think back to our EVO's around launch last year, you'd remember that the EVO's needed an update (if I'm not mistaken) to aid in removing the grounding issue. This grounding issues seems to have made it to CM7 and was present in #7 and is still present in #12. I have not posted at least 10 times in the xda forums and can't post to the dev page for CM7.. could someone that has the ability to both check on this possible issue and has the abitiliy to post over at xda do so please... Thanks guys.... Oh and I need sprints visual voicemail... anyone have the apk?
