Root Cog v2.3b6 just flashed saturday

Yeah I actually used that guide, but it was much easier to DL ROM from Captivate.

C Pride: Do I have to go through and click install on every app lol? That's what I'm doing now.

Lastly, how do I customize the look of my phone; I know you have much more personalization ability with Cognition.

Lol I had all that stuff back before I did all this... I'm talking about notification bar and themes.

ok once your phone gets back up, the first thing youre going to want to do is install titanium backup again. youll have to enter your google account again. after you get it set up install titanium backup, run it, press the menu button and there will be an option called batch. next to one of the blue buttons it says "restore missing apps + all system data" is the one i usually do. click that and go through all the apps and youre going to uncheck almost everything except for the apps you installed from the market. uncheck everything like camera, phone anything like that. pretty much all the apps in red you will uncheck, most of the green ones also(youll find out what im talking about when you get to it).

if you install some of these like phone, they will cause force closes on your phone dialer as its a 2.1 app and youre now on 2.2. anything that has 2.1 in it you will want to not install. its kinda hard to explain but you dont want to get it wrong and get force closes. so pretty much just install 3rd party apps, on things like the stock email you can restore the data to it and the data will all go back. anything that you dont know what it is, like com.____.__ you wont want to reinstall either

question: i'm assuming titanium backsup ur data on ur external sd card? how can i make sure of this?
also, why is it that after i flash a new rom, i still have folders like "kindle" on my internal card an app that i had on a previous flash?

Flashing a new rom updates root level files which you can't see with something like Root Explorer. For this reason, that's why a master clear or GSM master reset is recommended as a step in the flashing process. Master clear or GSM Master Reset (what I use) will wipe those files like "kindle" and give you a clean slate.

oh man this was much easier. ok once the file is downloaded, stay in the screen it showed when it was downloading, simply click the file and itll give you an option to open it with rom manager, do that and it gives you the option to clear data and backup existing rom. if you want to backup your phone exactly as it is now incase something happens and you want it back click backup, and always click the clear data and cache. press ok and youre done. give it a few minutes to install and the first boot will take several minutes

is this really so easy? wow, frm where can i download the file?

Download Cognition!

you only need clockworkmod recovery and rom manager. and then a backup of your old apps with titanium backup and a backup of your old rom

1) where to get clockworkmod recovery? is i an app, couldnt find in market.

2) Do i need to have paid version of rom manager or free one will do?

3) how to backup of your old rom?

got answer to first and second question....

clockwork comes with rom manager. the first choice in rom manager is flash clockworkmod recovery, thats all you need to do. free version is what i use

to backup your old rom there is an option in rom manager, its backup/restore old rom i believe just choose it and select backup. it does the rest, it will boot into recovery

make sure you use titanium backup also

last question (may be)...when i back up my use data using titanuim, it gets stored in SD/Titinium. But when I am flashing new rom, i have delete everything from my sd card right? so how will i get back the back which i out on the sd card?

you can transfer the files to an external to be safe, or to your computer, but it doesnt wipe all your stuff unless something goes wrong on the install

cool and rom manager will also store the back up in the sd card? then i can just use from my computer after flashing new rom?

yes rom manager backs up to the sd card also. i have several backups stored on my computer, and i keep one on my phone incase i need it, to save space

i followed the video u posted....after installing conginitionsv2.3b6.zip , i am not getting options to reboot my phone. Instead i am getting

yea and youll need to transfer the file back to your phone if you deleted it off of there. also read several posts up i told them what to restore and what not to restore, some things you need to leave alone or youll get force closes

u dont know what u did to me lol......looks like i have new phone and its so freaking fast man.....and i am loving the UI...

oh i know, i planned on leaving mine alone but my first taste of a new rom way back with the early cognition 2.2 files changed my mind
