Root Coming from rooted X to Fascinate

this is why I hate online shopping, you just never know...
With that said the seller finally responded and I have a SF due to arrive Friday after noon. Time to start reading the SF all root threads. :D
D13 here I COME!! You better have some answers ready!! lol

yeah, since I just had an epic fail, and got it fixed, I have learned and am ready:D

What did you dooooo, Fail bot?

Already getting ready
root
recovery
then what?
what's this Voodoo thing?
Oh yeah how do I get rid of Bing?

So what do you think about the phone in general fail bot?

Yep that's my starting point.
I think this phone will make a nice play toy for some time. I hope it last longer than the 3 months my X did.

Hows call quality?

i think the sf will be around for us for awhile as we are only now seeing the tip of the iceberg with development for roms/overclock etc whereas after the 2.2 overclock of the x the last day or so thats kinda it for them minus vanilla roms.

I have a feeling by the holidays we ll be rocking an INSANE phone

There also seems to be a bigger developer backing for it so it looks like we'll be "good to go" for some time. Party time for geeks!!

Agreed boys agreed. The obvious big news this week is the G2 OCing like a beast. Some guys are claiming to exceed 1.5Ghz thru this kernel module. Part of me is jealous that we dont have access to these same modules so we can do it ourselves instead of the full kernels we rely on. Having said that even these 1.4-1.5Ghz G2's are not the overall powerhouse we have with the SF. Sure on Froyo certain cpus have ridiculous Linpack scores. Admittedly, even with Froyo we will only be looking at about a 14mflops 17 if OC'd. But from a gaming perspective look at the NenaMark benchmark. That is more like an actual 3D game and there the DX, DInc, G2 all are scoring in the 20-35fps range. Our SF is near to 50fps. So yeah once we get Froyo on board and get all the voodoo stuff up and running I think our SF will still be as good or better overall than anything else coming out this year.

BTW, if you dont have NenaMark get it its pretty interesting. And its one of those we can brag about as no one is close to us in it

Locked bootloader on the X! Hana i'm still oc'd to 1.38! Im glad I kept it! You sf guys suck! Im still jealous you guys can get true roms tho :(

I don't know. Oc + apex = the fastest phone I've ever seen. This thing is screaming! !!!!!
Quadrant scores into the high 1800s

Yet here you are hanging out in a SF thread you started lol :)
Come on Now you know you want come play. You can bring your super fast phone along if you want.

D13 should I bring out my old quadrant score to crush his X pride? oh wait that was on my X Never mind

LMAO touche! I would still like to own a fascinate. I just wont give up my X now. And Ill hang around wherever the cool people are! ;)

Haha I hang around these boards as well since I was on the fence for so incredibly long over getting the DX or the SF. The extent of my gaming would be old console games, since I primarily prefer gaming on my PC rather than a phone, and reception is the utmost importance for me in a phone due to living in a valley with poor reception from Verizon. I've been a happy camper simply from rooting and customizing the DX, and I was pretty jealous of the overclocking the SF was receiving.. UNTIL it's a reality with the DX :D

I think the greatest thing you guys have going for you is that not only do you not have a locked bootloader, but there are multiple Galaxy S phones around that help you pick and choose some of the best qualities of each to use on your own. I'm still new to the Android world, so what does using customized kernels allow for with the SF beyond what's currently capable of doing with the DX?

I'm not sure the cool people will let you hang around with that big ole ugly locked up DX. Maybe if you put a fascinate case on it no one will notice.

I'm not sure, fairly new to Android myself) but at least I'll be able to find out.:) I have to say though that my X with the OC and apex or fission is one fast smooth machine.

i was glad to see the x get 2.2 oc, just as more of an fu to motorola, wish it had happened a few weeks earlier so I could have played around with it for a bit. I still would have sold it though as having used cm6 and ruby, etc I wanted to have that aosp on the horizon. The x may eventually get obisidian (although cvpcs seems to have been a bit quiet on that front) but if I kept my x when the sf hits 1.4 w/voodoo on froyo I would have been too jealous :)

Its also nice in a way that the sf community here is smaller than the dx community and generally speaking a group of people who will try stuff out and help one another. The x community is good, dont get me wrong, but its a lot of as soon as something comes out theres too much demanding of "its too hard that way, make me an update.zip" Thats just my opinion, and I like to check in and see whats going on there, but still glad I made the switch.

all I want is a phone that I can put CM6 on. I don't know if it's any good but I've heard so much about it I have to have it! All OC does for me is crash my phone when I need it the most.

cm6 is (and other aosp roms) great. The primary advantage, for me anyway, is the speed. With the non-oc kernel that came with it on my inc it felt smoother and faster than an oc-ed sense rom. When oc-ed, that much faster.

Usually cm is the first (or one of the first) to implement new things to. By now on the inc most roms have 3-reboot option built in but for awhile cm6 and ruby were the only ones that did. It was frustrating on froyo to loose toggling vibrate from the volume rocker but they built that in. The stock browser is great as they had user agent built in, to change to iphone, android, desktop, ie 6 etc to change it up.

Really though, its great to have a real vanilla "google" experience phone as a result of flashing it though. We'll still have to wait for the sf froyo source code to drop or froyo to launch before we ll see it though. I now cyanogen tried booting it on the vibrant but with incomplete source and kernel it wouldnt work right so its in a holding pattern.

also i bet if i had my x still, id be one the people stuck at 1.15 oc which seems to be a large portion of them while some can get past 1.4

I can get to 1.38 and it passes the stress test but when just doing normal stuff it would randomly reboot. :( oh well

whats the highest your stable at for everyday use? I get somewhat frustrated that my sf can't handle the lv kernels I KNOW that if I was in the 1.15 crowd on the dx and saw others at 1.5 stable id have thrown the thing against the wall with my impatience, j/k

Its funny how tiny differences in a batch of chips makes a real difference in stability and speed with o/c. My inc (which my wife is currently using as of yesterday) was stable at 1.19 where a lot of peoples cant run more than 1.13 so you win some, you loose some in that regard.

I would love if the sf was capable of its "theoretical" 1.6 with froyo and voodoo. I believe that 2.1 (at least on other devices) doesnt allow the speeds 2.2 does because of memory issues or something like that.

I only started messing with it yesterday and after the last reboot haven't tried again. For some reason OC'ing doesn't thrill me. I buy PC parts that I can OC also but once I do it I usually go back to stock. At least then of something goes wacky I know its not the OC'ing. so I generally do it then forget it until the PC (or phone) really needs it. But I generally replace them before it gets to that point;) if the SF can get to 1.6 with froyo it's going to be a beast to beat!.
