Compare, contrast, opinions: GSIII vs EVO 4G LTE / Sprint-CDMA-S4 only

Not sure if this was posted already or not... Apologies if it was. But as you may know, the creator of CyanogenMod was hired by Samsung a while back, and he's had a hand in a lot of the recent Sammy phones being released. Here's a post by him on G+ about his personal opinions of the phone. A few of the features he mentions I hadn't heard about and do think they are pretty neat.

He said the camera has zero shutter lag, but reviewer never mentioned that? And video of the camera showed a delay....maybe in the final build this will change!:p

At the Unpacked event they mentioned the zero shutter lag....

Also from a review, "We pulled off six frames per second with full 8-megapixel resolution by holding down the shutter button while in burst mode, which was slightly more than the HTC One X and totally sufficient for getting a nice smile out of shy subjects. In Single Shot mode, there was virtually no shutter lag, which greatly assisted shots of moving targets: what you see when you tap the screen is exactly what will appear in your gallery afterwards."

and about the video, "autofocus during video recording was some of the best we've seen in any smartphone. 1080p is recorded with a data-rate of around 2.2MB/s, which is very healthy indeed, and autoexposure shifts smoothly and sensibly."

Considering it's Gorilla Glass and the S3 uses Gorilla Glass 2...yes

I think ya missed the point ;) OneX and LTEVO are made from solid C&C piece of aluminum. Both LTEVO & SGSIII are rediculously thin phones. If the phone in the video was made out of plastic, it wouldn't matter what glass is on the screen, it would broke In half.

When it comes to thin phones (aka "Droid Razar") made from material other than metal. Hold one in your hands and squeeze. You will know exactly what I mean. :D (c-r-e-e-k and c-r-a-c-kle) :p

I would like to do a squeeze test on my LTEVO, but that is what YouTube is for! ;)

Zero shutter lag has been the new meme since the new Nexus unveiling. Reality is measured in tenths of a second now.

And please don't let a silly video become a touchstone - it's right up there with the silly annual tubes of running car keys over a screen. None of us would do what that video showed, or run it in a clothes dryer, or drop it on concrete (other popular silly vids).

If the SGS3 crowd made those vids, we'd poke fun.

Let's keep the comparisons about the quality of the normal user experiences, what do you say!? ;) :)

Wait.... So Noone else uses their ltevo as a sledgehammer?? Hmm must be the only one...

ROFL, One of the reasons LTEVO threads are so fun. :D In all seriousness though. I'm a 280lb. guy and considering how thin LTEVO is and SGSIII is even thinner. I don't use a case, I forget my phone is in my back pocket? It's not going to be pretty ;)
The vid gave me peace mind. (just say'n)

We just have to remember that the law of physics always apply. Nothing is scratch-proof, even diamond. Gorilla Glass might be tougher than say, the average pane of glass on a window, but there are plenty of natural elements harder than GG. It can scratch easily. It can shatter on hard impact.

We should not be lulled into a false sense of security based on MARKETING claims or videos like these. Always treat the glass with care if you value its condition.

I thought the same exact thing, and was reminded of the other video of someone jabbing a pen into a phone repeatedly.

Also, for whatever reason, people keep confounding the separate issues of scratch resistance and breakage/shatter resistance. Seeing a pen get hammered into a screen, or using a screen to hammer a nail in says nothing about scratch resistance -- which is the primary concern of screen protectors. No screen protector is going to prevent breakage, but scratches are another story. However, I see all the time people watch these videos and are like "welp, gorilla glass looks awesome to me, time to go screen protector-less!"

I swear I need to do a Youtube video one of these days to straighten things out. We can then post it into every single discussion on gorilla glass and screen protectors. :)

Does anybody know if the HTC radio is going to be much better than the
SG3?? My biggest decision factors are radio and the removable battery. The non-removable battery in the HTC makes me worry. Should I worry about that?? If not then my decision would be best on which phone has the best radio, and if there is a significant difference.

Any help with this would be great.

HTC will have better radio performance. If the S3 uses the S4 its possible the performance will be the same.

Check the "battery discussion/maintaining battery life" thread.. You will find that alot of people ( including myself) are thoroughly surprised and happy with battery life... Definetly not an issue.... So far

HTC will definitely have better radios. From what I hear the battery performance is pretty good. Way better than previous EVOs.

Many folks seem to have positive praise for the battery but keep in mind that LTE is not activated on the phones and that will be the true test on how the battery holds up.

This is what I was thinking too about the fact that we don't have LTE yet. I still think the battery on the LTEvo will be good with good battery management. I am a heavy user so this might be a problem for me.

that seems to me.. backwards...

when you are in a low or bad signal area...that is killer on your battery! it is always searching for a signal.

since there are NO LTE signals.. but the radio is active... then it is looking for LTE all day long. which drains the battery more!

When LTE is active.. then it should save battery.

and for background data services.. it would also mean that data is downloaded faster and refreshed faster. letting the phone go back to sleep mode faster. again saving battery.

right?

You can turn off LTE and just use 3G.

From what I understand, LTE will use more power than 3g. This will drain your battery faster like Wimax does, even being in a good 4G area. I know that with LTE we will have a better signals. Not like Wimax where we have spotty signals now. So in that sense it will be better on the battery than Wimax. But it will still take more power to run it. This why LTEvo has a bigger battery than the One X I believe. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong on this.

what i am saying.. is . .there are a lot of people on LTevo.. and do not turn off LTE.. but still get a full day of good usage.

so when these people get LTE signal.. their battery life will even last longer....
