Root condemned cm7

Comcache is also disabled now by default... I think it's a little smoother this way myself, jit is still off as well....

I thought the whole point of JIT was to make things faster. What am I missing?

Also, is compcache better disabled because of the lack of resources in the Eris?

Also, last question (for now ;)), what do you recommend for VM heap size?

In my tinkering as well as some other people we've found that it seems a lot smoother with jit off. I've also been having compcache default to 18% but as I was messing around... I used a Nintendo emulator to play super Mario brothers lol... with compcache the game was barely playable as is kept freezing up. I disabled compcache and it played real smooth and didn't miss a beat. I have cm heap defaulted to 32. I personally at this point feel that these are my preferred settings but feel free to mess with them for yourself and see what suits you best :)

Strange. I always hated Sense when I was running stock, but lately I've been running xtrSENSE (it's so damned compatible) and when I go back to GB I've grown so used to the Sense way that I start griping about "vanilla" now.

not me,lol... every day that goes by with no cm7 or other AOSP roms,i hate sense just a lil bit more. ;)

downloading from the dropbox now(glad you put it there, its a much faster download :D)

I wanna flash the new rom, but is there a way to flash it and have the games you downloaded on the rom you have now automatically go to the new rom?

Which Rom are you on and what games? If they are from the market then they should restore if you have to do a full wipe. Another option is to download Titanium Backup from the market and back them up. After you flash the Rom you can then restore them through Titanium as well. If you are on a Froyo or Eclair Rom currently and you restore them on GB just choose the app only restore. Don't restore data. If you are CCM V6 you shouldn't lose anything by installing V7 because you're only doing a Dalvik and Cache wipe. Yet another option is if you have estrongs file manager or root explorer you can make a folder on you SD Card (name it games or apps or something like that), then copy the apk for the games from data/app to the folder you created on the SD Card. Once you get the Rom installed and setup, open a file manager, navigate to the folder you copied your apks to and install them. Lot's of options to choose from just a matter of what suits you best :)

Thanks, im coming from V6, V7 is sounding pretty good :D

Yes, I thought this business of turning off JIT was very counter-intuitive and I resisted it for a long time. I think that it comes down to a time/space tradeoff, and since RAM is so precious on these devices, by turning off the JIT we save the RAM (10MB?) which would otherwise be required for JIT to do its thing. The net result is that when you phone is lightly-loaded, it has enough RAM to operate smoothly.

[ note that RAM here is not be confused with "internal storage", which is the quick Flash memory on the device. The latter determines for example how many apps you can fit on your phone, and how much room is available for Application "data" and "cache." ]

My phone runs better with JIT off (still running GSB 2.9, probably on my way to CS within the next week or two). I only tried compcache very a few minutes and it was clearly ruining the phone's performance.

-----

I wonder what are the relative RAM requirements of Gingerbread vs Froyo (vs Eclair). Google has clearly done a good job keeping the internal storage requirements in-check (and making them less relevant thanks to Apps-to-SD and the [hacker-discovered, I think] Cache2Cache). But RAM may be another story, and it may explain why it's so hard to get smooth operations on the Eris with Gingerbread.

Can anyone shed light on this RAM comparison?

Man ...everything just flies in this version ..wowwee! Was having so much fun ...almost forgot to post. Tomorrow I will test gps. Thanks for fixing the tunein Radio.

Yeah. It's working great. My wife said TuneIn Radio is working well now. Thanks, CS!

Now I just hope there's a workable solution coming for the email exchange issue. Then I'll really be happy! :)

No problem :) Glad to hear you guys like it.. I'm pretty sure that something will happen to get the exchange issue fixed too ;)

flashed and running here also. new walpaper is ok. i liked the red android guys myself. of the GRE wallpaper,or the stripped one(:D)

I like the new wallpaper more, CS. Of course, I replaced it with a shot of my kids, as I always do. But it's a lot less busy than that red and green one.

I flashed it last night, got it all set up, but backed it up and restored xtrSENSE so I could check on Navigation for that guy in the other forum. I'll restore it back this afternoon and run it for the weekend. Well, I'll make sure that phone answering happens as it should, but I am sure that it will. Anyway, last night everything installed just fine.

Phone is working fine for me. Also I don't know how I did it but no matter what I flash my granddaughters picture is like a default wallpaper. Also doogald I used to have the ability to change the color bar that's next to the email accounts but don't seem to find it now.

If you sign in with your google account on initial setup, it restores many of your settings from your previous install, including your wallpaper, WiFi access points, and a few other settings. Oddly, there are some settings that do not come over. It's either a Google Froyo and better thing or a Cyanogen thing, I never remember which.

I'm a gmail-only person myself.

I have my company, gmail, and Hotmail accounts. If your using the gmail app I guess you don't see it.

I will be flashing later today while the gf is at work. I'm excited from all the responses, and to check out the new wallpaper.

I flashed v7 last night (at about midnight) and set up my preferences this morning. I haven't received any calls yet or really used my phone other than to send a text. So far, so good! Hopefully I'll play with it a bit more today and let you know if there are any issues. One thing I want to test out is sharing my pics from the gallery to FB. For some reason, in almost every ROM I've flashed, the upload stalls when trying to "Share" from my gallery to FB. If I go to my FB App and then update my status with a pic, it uploads fine.

Flashed V7 last night. So far so good for me. Is anyone receiving an error when trying to load the gallery? (com.cooliris.media).

Works fine for me.

Seems like I started to experience this on GSB3.1 as well. Guess I'll do a little more searching. Thanks man.

Just tried these steps:

1.Delete all the files under sd:\DCIM\.thumbnails
2.Delete all the files under sd:\Android\data\com.cooliris.me

I imagine it will take quite a while to load.
