Help Contacts keep disappearing until reboot

Mine started a while back and now again. Started up after a break of no more issues. Did it twice yesterday. I can't have a phone that is loosing my contacts. So if this doesn't get fixed soon I will have to sell it.

I'm not sure how useful this might be since I don't have a N2 yet to play around with but is there a setting to sync contacts? If there is have you tried turning that setting off and seeing if that helps? There might be a setting for that in more than one app too... like I said, I don't actually have the phone yet so I'm just guessing.

It syncs email, it syncs calendar. Only my contacts stop. I have turned off just the contacts and back on and it fails to recover. I have to remove the account and add it back to make it work. I haven't tried to restart the phone itself though or do a full reset which it is getting close to me trying.

My old iphone 5 is starting to appeal to me again because I never had issues with it.

May not work for you but I can always quickly recover by 1) starting Application Manager, 2) selecting the "All" tab at the top, 3) scrolling down to "Contacts Storage", and then 4) select it and "Clear Data". After doing that my contacts start syncing withing a minute or less. No need to reboot (though that also works for me).

I meant turning off the contacts sync and leaving it off. From what it sounds like, the N2 is trying to sync your contacts with a list on the internet that has no contacts erasing the contacts on your phone in the process. Telling your N2 to not sync contacts might keep your contacts on the phone.

It's starting to come to light....

Do the people that have these contact loss problems running some sort of call blocker app?

For instance, I am using an app called CALL BLOCKER. Someone else who is also seeing their contacts disappear is running the same app.

Just want to find out if there is a common thread here as to why this problem is happening. For now, the call blocker app seems to be the best lead.

Yup...it's slowly coming out that (so far) all the people that are having this problem are using a call blocker app, in particular, CALL CONTROL.

I am going to write the author of the app an email right away.

Yes actually. I use Call Control.

Im having issues of my contacts disappearing as well and im using call blocker too! They usually come back after a reboot....quite annoying actually but using call blocker is a great app that i use in my business...

Looks like we are getting an admission from Call Control that they are the cause of the problem:

Hello Ronald,

Thank you for emailing us. We apologize for the inconvenience. It is a new problem for us. We are now working on the issue and trying to fix it. Please try to uncheck "Keep Contacts Synced" option in your Settings.

Regards,

I too am having that problem. Contact Sync did not work. Now I have went to Contacts to display and unchecked all. Under Customized use Phone and check all except Caledar. I will see how that works.

Well i have to say that since the latest update for call control i havent had any issues:D

Did they finally issue an update? They were denying that their software as at fault despite the fact at least 5 people have come forward with the same problem, all having that software installed.

+1 ... Thx, this works
I don't use call blocker ... but I have noticed this happens when trying to use a Facebook contact on Wi-Fi with data disabled

I registered just for this post.

I have been having the same problem with my Samsung Note 3. Contacts go missing, Text message names go missing. If you check your Google contact sync it hangs forever. Settings > Accounts > Google

Only until I restart my phone do my contacts come back, to soon disappear in a few minutes or hours. I even set Google to Not Sync Contacts and just used the Phones memory to store my contacts, they still disappeared. I even downloaded Third Party Contact and Text messaging apps to work around the issue, they also would still disappear. This was very frustrating for me

Out of desperation I even Backed-up my phone and Erased everything back to Factory.

I reinstalled minimal core apps I use only to get a few goods days of use without issues, then it started to happen again.

(I assume it cannot be the Samsungs Touchwiz software now because things worked after the Factory Reset until I started to add apps. It must be a Third party app or Google has sync issues with my Account.)

I uninstalled all my apps one by one ( I do not use Call Blocker or any Call Blocker App of any sort ) and tried to sync my contacts via Google after each uninstalled app. Each time google sync'd contacts would hang with an error.

When I uninstalled Talkatone. Google immediately sync'd with contacts and in a few seconds all my contacts were back. I had my note 3 sync multiple times over Google Contacts to test and so far things are working.

Talkatone was the problem app.

I felt it had to be one of the apps that use my contacts list or contacts names which caused Google Contacts to not sync, and making my phone think there are no contacts available.

I'm currently running:

Whatsapp
Line
Hangouts
Facebook
Facebook Messanger
Multiple Gmail accounts
Google Voice

These programs access my contacts and seem to be safe. So far I have not experienced any contacts disappearance.

I hope this helps someone out there. This was a pain in the ass for me, I couldn't even text all my women back properly, mixing those texts up would have been disastrous.

So hope this helps, keep yo game tight my Google Gangstas!

Hi I was wondering if you could help me out... I know you guys had a discussion already about the contacts disappearing, but I don't know the computer lingo like you do Lol I have the note 3. -v 4.2.2 and I downloaded sync fix however when I try to run the program, ads keep popping up so fast I don't get a chance to press start. It deleted about 95% of my contacts. Another problem is that when I reboot the contacts never come back. Any ideas what to do? Thanks so much.

I am on Jellybean 4.1.2

Anyone having a problem with their contacts disappearing?

I mean...completely disappearing.

When I reboot the phone they all come back, but at some point during the day they just totally disappear and my address book is empty.
Hi, l had the same problem. To fix the problem I deleted the last couple of apps that I downloaded n that worked

I'm having the same problem with my Note3. Contacts disappear and come back when i restart. Not using Call Block or Facebook. Using whatsapp and hangouts...
