Root Continulous Boot Loop, Cant get to Clockwork!

Newbie
My phone just continuously boot loops, gets right to the HTC EVO 4G screen, goes black, then cycles through that. I can get into my bootloader, but not recovery... If I pick recovery, it will just cycle back again. I was running the latest CM7 stable build, and I have no idea what to do. Is my phone a lost cause now? How the heck can I get back to my Nand!

Try putting the PC36IMG.zip file back on your SD card and re-doing that.

So back up your nandroids (and pictures/etc. just to be safe)
Pull battery, power on to bootloader. It should then find the file and take care of the rest.

so when you choose recovery, are saying you get a boot loop? or is it just staying on the white screen? you may need to wait a bit for recovery to pop up. if not we can get you a recovery from hboot.

Do I do this manually through a PC?

As soon as I choose "Recovery" it goes right back into a boot loop. I can only access hboot. It happened just out of no where.

ok so you have hboot that is good news. go here and get a custom recovery of your choice:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/259446-clockwork-amon-ra-pc36img-files.html. i would strongly recommend amon ra 2.3. there are instructions on that thread on how to install it. you will need a card reader to transfer the file over to the sd card, however. if you have questions do not hesitate to ask.

well if you can get amon ra installed all of your nandroid backups should work. unless you switch recoveries. not sure about your current setup though, unless you just backed it up earlier.

You are replacing your current recovery (clockwork with amon ra).
The current rom should be the same. It's just the rooting for dummies post says it's always good to have a backup of your stock (2.2) rom.

You'd lose this. What I did was after rooting, I flashed amon ra and then did the nandroid.

So, if you wanted that 2.2 backup, you'd need to re-flash clockwork, restore the stock backup, then flash amon ra, then backup stock 2.2 (again).

Then you would be free to flash away. But, you could skip all that and go directly to amon ra, which would then have to backup the current rom (cm7).

Ok you've all been extremely helpful and this gives me hope. I'm gonna try and fix this tonight as soon as I get a chance! Hopefully everything works out! I shall report back if I run into trouble. Thanks guys.

I didn't know that clockwork backups were compatible with amon ra...? oops.

oops sorry my bad i must have skipped a post where he said it was clockwork mod. currently jumping forums backand forth.:o i thought he said he had amon ra. yeah you are right in that cwm will not work with amon ra. so stick with your cwm if you want. but i still recommend amon ra.

Ok well I was able to flash the PC36IMG.zip file, and it updated... Yet when I still choose Recovery, it does the same thing. Just boots to htc EVO 4G screen and keeps looping. Do I have any other options?

ok that is weird. how long are you waiting? give it 10 min or so and see if you can get to recovery.

out of curiosity what were you doing when the boot loop happened?

I've let it cycle through for quite some time. I'm at my wits end! When it happened I wasn't doing anything at all. I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket, pulled it out, and saw it doing this continuous loop. Is there anything that I can do? Or am I pretty much screwed?
