Custom (3rd Party) ROM: Revolution. Pros and Cons

hi guys, i'm still a noob and i'm thinking about installing the revolution rom, but i'm kinda new to this, there's a lot of things that i don't understand yet! :P

let's start with kernels, i heard that the stock kernel for 2.3.5 is very good but it doesn't support BLN and what about the others ? which one is the fastest ?

also my sgs2 isn't rooted yet, so i was thinking that i should do it this way :

install cf-root v 4.1 (i read that 4.2 is buggy)
once my phone is rooted i use cwm fo make a backup
after that i download kitchen app and i install the revolution rom from there

am i doing something wrong ?

thx in advance ;)

that would do it

you'll get different views on kernels. hawker finds siyah the best, i find it causes lag and prefer stock. ninphetamine is also good. what works for one does not necessarily work for the next. it does no harm to try a few and see. the beauty of revoltuon kitchen is you can pick from the menu and apply directly.

tried to apply thru CWM, keep getting installation aborted

am i doing something wrong??

If you are referring to my icons, they are the icons for the AOSP lock screen. Use Deluxe settings, and long press on the relevant lock screen setting to change the AOSP lock screen icon.

but can't get the files to unzip/open. have downloaded from xda to phone, tried to apply the zip via CWM, but will not install. therefore they're not available as an option in delux settings ??:confused:

Don't use CWM, it is just a zip file containing icons. Unzip on your Desktop and copy across to your SD card

Hey it is Monday, totally allowed. I'm suffering nicotine withdrawal, four weeks off the smokes and 3 days off the patches. Not a great head day for me

Hey guys,

Apologies in advance if my question sounds n00bish *collective sigh*. I'm trying to install the Revolution ROM. For some reason I can't install kitchen app (that's a separate issue) so I tried to install the rom directly using CWM Manager (I rooted using CF). So it reboots into CWM recovery and my options are limited to Update from zip and wiping data. So I tried the update one and as I expected it didn't work (I need the install option not just the update). The error wasa that the signature wasn't verified.

Now, I followed the root guide so I flashed the CF kernel, then rooted with SuperOneClick, then flashed the stock back to get rid of the triangle. I'm pretty sure I rooted correctly, but I'm not sure if flashing the stock back is the problem, or if I should try a different root method so I can use rom manager (CF root isn't compatible with RM, apparently).

Anything I've overlooked or am I going crazy?

Edit: I think my problem might be SuperOneClick. I'll try to follow Chainfire's thread completely and see if that works.

Edit 2: Is there a way to install Kitchen app using root manager?

Edit 3: Managed to install Kitchen app (the AV was stopping it) an downloading Revolution rom through that! Should be fine now *fingers crossed*

Ok I thought I'd post an update (ignore my last post now :P).

I needed to re-flash the CF Root kernel using CWM since I got rid of the triangle. Phew! All fixed! Now running Revolution ROM v2.7.1 and gonna have a happy time browsing through kitchen app for customising :D

Once rooted almost all roms are installed in the same way.
You may encounter the odd one or two that flash through odin.
As for getting the .zip onto the handset just connect the usb to your pc and transfer with windows explore.

i haven't heard of checkrom before, does it really have some good things that revolution could take advantage of ? like what for exemple ?

sorry i know it's a noob question hhh
