Custom (3rd Party) ROM: Revolution. Pros and Cons

on the theme BLACKandroid v2.5 the notification bar was gone and market app wouldnt open saying unexpected problem and making me either force close it or send a report

and when i wa trying a few other things i went into titanium pro key app and clicked check for update it was saying there was an unexpected problem and making me force close it again, the same with that chainfire 3d

but ive changed the theme to GINGERLITE HORIZ BATT and everything was back to normal and working fine

I have the BLACKandroid v2.5 and everything works fine. I suggest you try downloading the rom from here and flashing in CWM. See if that sorts your problems out.

i have just been having a play around with revolution again and put BLACKandroid v2.5 theme back on again to see if it would do the same again and this time its all working fine

dont know whats happening but now my google app widget, my music player app and gmail app are in a black/grey colour after the first time i changed to BLACKandroid v2.5 theme but all my other apps and widgets are there original colour

Yes its part of the theme.

so which kernel do people find the best??

anyone tried anything other than ninphetamine? make much difference??

I must say, this one seems to be filtering up to the top of the bunch at the moment.

Any chance you can put up some plain english instructions on how to install this, assuming we are not even on a rooted phone yet? The instructions on its download page seem a little confusing to me, as it mentions downloading a kitchen app and a core base, and it not that clear in my mind.

Also if a full wipe is needed, can instructions on how to do this be put up too. Its better to have all the information in a single point of reference. Less chance to mess things up!!!

Thank you all.

i came from villain to revolution and found that the rom wouldn't install from the kitchen app for some reason...i then tried installing from clockwork mod with no wipe and found my phone wouldn't get past the boot screen so i had to wipe in the end in order to get it to install properly!

it works fine now though - id suggest once you've rooted your phone, back up your apps/contacts/sms/data with titanium backup and then do a clockworkmod backup and wipe before installing the rom through clockwork mod. this will ensure that you get a clean install and no conflicts - then you can re-install titanium backup and restore your apps etc. if there are any problems or you don't like the rom then you could restore back to where you were originally through clockwork mod.....

I just paid for the kitchen app and installed the rom from CMW. Only one word for it 'amazing'. I love it the rom itself, its very stable and the kitchen app is brilliant, so many choices to try and I really like that you can try all the older modems to see which works best.

Currently on ninphetamine kernel and will trial this for a few days before moving onto another but not sure which yet.

Best 85p I have spent in a long while :D

couldn't agree more.

calibrated battery today, and so will report back how this compares.

btw gezmond - i flashed thru the kitchen app without wiping, all running fine. agree re backups, but maybe worth trying to install thru the app first, and if there are conflicts/issues, then do a wipe and re-install - it's just much less hassle using the app directly and obviously works for some!

on my phone almost constantly yesturday and at 40% by end of day

so far today have done a few emails/texts, phone been off charge 3 and a half hours, still on 97%

best battery life so far. great.

my only issue with this rom has been a conflict between the lockscreen and juicedefender which stopped my push emails, but have changed settings in juice defender and now all fine.

awesome rom

nope. but can't say I've noticed any lag. although at times things seem so slick/quick it's almost very slightly jumpy and just wondered if this would smooth things out a bit.

may give it a go

hi steslatt and sydney. ive been messing about with the revolution rom for a few days now and still my battery is pretty poor ive been changing modems round from kh3 to kg5 and the kernels but no difference at all.

what settings have you guys got to make the battery be so good?

---------------------------------------------------------------------

also whats with the other applications installed on my phone when i installed revolution

chainfire 3d??
cwm??
edt tweaks??
gscript lite??
home switcher for??

are any of these useful or needed or can i just freeze them with titanium?

Any one following leomar on XDA ? Google shut his account down on the market place ! As you can imagine he not a happy bunny at the moment.

Thought i would just share it with you all. If you did'nt know.

battery wise, not sure what makes it good. have not changed any settings. have you downloaded any of the kernels and seen if these make any difference??

chainfire 3d - boosts performance to make 3d games slicker
cwm - for flashing roms/kernels/files etc and for making "nandroid backups" (a complete restore file of your phone)
edt - changes clock/signal/battery etc in notification bar
gscript lite - not worked it out yet!
home switcher - to switch between TW, go laucher etc etc

Leomar posted and quote

I am going to change my project application, i will change the namespace application so that this app is not more related to google market!

I am worried that Google is able to control your phone and delete the app, as Apple did in the Past....

Google & Apple are the same...

This requires time and it will break code, i need to do things carefully!
