Np! :D As for the APN settings, it shouldn't be blank, the APN settings need to be set in order for the internet to work; What network are you on in which country?

There aren't that many bugs in CM7, if you can live without phone calls going through the headset, DivX video and FM Radio then you should definitely go for it! I use it and it works flawlessly :D

dude, what exactly is the recovery for besides backing up the rom??:confused:
 
dude, how come when i installed the 2.3 theme the only thing that changed was the font and the notification bar(which isn't colored black)?? when i open the menu i dont see the transparent background and the reflection of the app logos, the call button and the browser aren't green and also the background is still the same as before...but all in all, i'm quite satisfied coz i like the font hehehe

Thanks, I've literally spent hours on end trying loads of different fixes.. Absolute last resort is to reinstall Windows, which I really don't want to do.. Lucky I made a backup of my files last night eh? ;)

Try these APN settings:
APN: websfr
username: guest
password: guest

leave everything else the way it is and give it a name. Then it menu>save and tap the dot next to the new APN to activate it, then within a few minutes/seconds you should be able to access the internet through mobile data :D

The font was one of my favourite things about the theme too :p
Restart the phone again after installing the theme, that should sort it :D
 
Hi, it took me a while but after finally getting hold of z4root i managed to root the phone and from there it was easy to get the upgrade done to get 2.2 on the phone!:D

But...

After the phone had finished i couldnt get MyBackup Root to work as it says my phone isnt rooted... So i couldnt continue to get cyanogen mod...

That was ok tho. I thought my widgets werent gonna work but they came back on eventually but i'd lost my bookmarks (cause of the mybackup root problem?). But out of everything my worst problem is that Market doesnt work, even if i go throught the web browser way instead of the app it says my phone isnt compatible for the apps on market.

Does this mean i'm stuffed? It's the second gt540 i've had the first was stolen in a house burglary after a few days of having it i dont wanna buy another! :(

Is this after the KDZ updater? When you install CM you'll have root access already and the Market should be fine
 
Sorry for not being very clear mate. Yes i updated with the Carphone warehouse KDZ updater as thats where i originally bought the phone from and it appeared to work fine. I didnt do anything until the updater said finished. The phone restarted and i was going to restore my data but the phone isnt rooted. I tried to do z4root both temporary and permanent and it doesnt seem to work with mybackup root. Is there an easy way to tell if the phone is rooted another way so i know which is the problem?

Also when i try to use the marpket app it says "could not launch the requested activity" and online on the market when it says choose your device to install the app on it says its not compatible.

Sorry, any ideas?

It's cool; You don't need to restore your data after the KDZ update because your gonna be putting on CM after which will erase you data again anyway! So install CM, you'll have root access straight away, and restore your data :D
 
work eventually, told my xp loptop not to ask me to install again :L. had to create a work around for the cmd in the libery then do it manually, scaryed me when is dident to anythink for a second, lol.

Oh btw, the phone and browser icons won't change at the bottom, sorry forgot to mention :p and was the default white theme on when you installed the Gingerbread theme?

Ok, i've tried doing it with the usb connected to computer and without. Both ways the phone goes inactive. I hold the camera buttoin and power on the phone. without the usb connected the phone vibrates to say its coming on, but then nothing happens ive left it 30 mins just incase but still nothing happens. I have to remove the battery to get it back to normal.

Basically i cant get fastboot to work. i do get this far tho (screenshot)

The phone isn't inactive, if the phone switches on and displays a blank screen, its in fastboot mode. Did your computer install any drivers when you first plugged the phone in while in fastboot mode? Try connecting to a different USB port?
 
I've finally managed to do it! :D

I've created a single .exe file that will extract and install CyanogenMod 6.1.2 to your GT540! The .exe file cuts down the process by a significant amount, so all you have to do is put the phone in fastboot mode. A link to it is in the first post :D
